HBO - Bastards of the Party - History of LA Gangs - By Bone of Athens Park

bastard of the party was a very informative and important documentary. it really answered a lot of questio i had about gangs.
Like how did it all begin.
It was interesting seeing the evolution of gang culture form the 50's where it was about protecting themselves from white gangs to the community based organization of the 60's to where it is today.
I also appeciated the fact that they didn't glorfy the gang deathstyle. It took a real an honest looks at those who gangbang.
You also realize that is; not as simple as red vs blue. If soneone killed one of your homies wouldn't you want to seek revenge? Now compund this over 10-20 years and dozens of lives lost. Oh yeah and don't forget the durg trade.

Two things stuck out about out about this film
one was when the narrator said the one of the first steps to breaking the gang cycle was as simple as not giving your child gang nicknames. Stop calling your child lil Loc and call him by his real name.
The onther this was the ending where they show the street names and real names of many of the gang member that appeared in this film and an update as to what has happened to them. it's sad to see so many black brothers dead before they reached 30, some even before 20... :smh:

If you could read you human virus. You would see I was talking specifically about the gangs you retarded mexican jumping bean. Look at you getting all upset and angry like a fucking dwarf jumping to conclusions like a bitch. You dont think I dont know about whats going on out here in cali. I live here now. I go to LA. I see the Re-gentrification projects going on. I'm not talking about the Panthers situation. Im' talking about how the host said he grew up in a nice home and joined a gang. Why? Why did he? I had coke dealers on my block. I didnt grow up and run with them who half are dead or in prison now. I'm sick of dumb mothafuckin bitch niggas like you and everybody else making excuses for stupid ass activity. You can only blame crackas so long before you start sounding like a hopeless repetative bitchmade faggot.

We know what the white man has done to us. Now instead of sitting around crying about it. DO SOMETHING. Quit trying to act like Mr. Angry LA thug with a curl and do something about it. Instead of comming on BGOL puffing out your chest like you're mad at the world sitting in your computer chair not doing shit for anybody in LA.

I just caught most of this shit this weekend on HBO. Shit like this really affects me the way they prey on our disadvantaged and misguided. The part that really got me is when they were talking about how they are building prisons and compared our plight to the holocaust. Sad sad shit

This is the definitive look at the entire gangbangin situation in LA, from the origins, to where we are today. It was very insightful and I felt that it didn't glorify the gangs like a lot of the music does. The end of the Panther movement and the beginning of the 70's Superfly era where it was all about the individual and no longer about our people as a collective was especially on point imo. That coupled with the loss of jobs in the community and the saturation of drugs in the late 70's and early 80's basically crippled a whole generation. Now it is up to us to pick up the pieces and start over again.
YOU COULDNT HAVE SAID IT BETTER BROTHER...AND THE DOC WAS ON POINT IT MADE ME UNDERSTAND HOW MY PEERS OF TODAY GOT WHERE THEY ARE NOW...SHIT IS DEEP

Weill said my brotha I agree 100%
I caught this flick on HBO a couple days ago and watched it again
on HBO on Demand with my kids. I thought it was very informative.
I never knew that The Crips & Bloods were sorta kinda like decendants of
The Black Panther Party. I also thought it was fucked up how cocaine/crack
destroyed the Black Community as a whole. I grew up in the projects of Chicago
and the same exact shit that was going down in the late 70's, 80's and 90's was
going down in Chicago too.

Except the gangs in Chicago were The Gangster Disiples & The Vice Lords
There were other fractions like The Black Disiples, Four Corner Hustlers,
Black Stones, Mickey Cobra's, El Rukns, Latin Kings the list goes on
.

As a child of the 70's I witness first hand the destruction. I remember how
my old hood went from the "nice block" to a full fledge gang and drug infested
murderous warzone back when crack hit the streets in 86. That was back when if cats
had beef they knuckled, not like now when a brotha will blow your dome off for
looking at em wrong. WTF? My drunk, yet wise Uncle Earl told me shit so fucked up in the hood
nowadays because the NEW generation today are crackbabies

Pathetic and sad. LA has the most ignorant black people on earth. I swear if aliens ever visited Los Angeles and saw humans killing each other over a white mans street or a color they would just put all of us out our misery. WTF is wrong with these genocide producing coons. I'm willing to bet most are like the narrator. Grew up middle class with a nice family then just joined because it was cool to be thug. I swear them LA niggas live in nice neighborhoods with lawns and shit. Talking about they poor. Get the fuck outta here.

Fuck you!!

The reason Crips were started was because the police out here are like nazi stormtroopers. Then the shit got dumb.

Choke hold, Feds bringing crack and guns in town, and lynchings in Long Beach.

You're showing your Jap side now cuzz. Like East Oakland ain't a stale ass ghetto. Wherever there's Ninjas, there's stupidity.

Oh, and when Ninjas do drivebys in your "Nice" hood with lawns, either you shoot back, or leave. Police don't give a fuck mayne, and you know this.

A must watch for anybody 24yrs and younger . To show the history and to also let them have show self pride Like those Kats in The movie who said"fuck the spook killer

Yo...this is the only reason I still come here. I just saw 80% of this tonight. It should be mandatory for all kids in school and every stupid ass rapper signing a rap deal. Thanks Makk. I just knew that if I came on here tonight someone would say something about it.

Its sad to see how something that starts off with good intentions goes so wrong because of lack of leadership and defined purpose.

Where you BEEN???

You dont need to go to LA to see "re-gentrification", see the shackles on my peoples' feet....

Fillmore, the Swamp, 3rd ST, Hunter' Point, the Tenderloin, Mission ST, across the bridge in Richmond, Oak Town, Emeryville, The Crest, down the way in East Palo Alto, San JO, Seaside, etc. Gangs, dirty money, hoes, hay n' that white...

The part near the end where they showed all the guys who had been killed or gotten life in prison was really deep.

WHEW!! Did you even watch it? Probably not - cuz in order for one to become enlightened, one would need to first pull one's head out of one's ass.

This is not another story about Tookie. It's not glorifying gangs. I mean, is it THAT far fetched to believe that a lot of our history still hasn't been told? There's WAY more to the gang situation than what you see on TV and music videos. He even points out that a lot of gang members, not to mention the average citizen, don't know where it began or why. And no, it didn't begin with Crips, Bloods and Boyz in the Hood. What started in the 50s as a way to protect the community against white supremacy. The FBI and LAPD systematically set out to destroy any semblance of hope and progress and we're left with what we see today.

They didn't even go into the CIA pumping drugs and guns into the area to fuel the fire and pimp us to get paid.

I'm a little salty that i'm only seeing it now...it was made in 2005.
You not the only one. I heard all of that. What brothas need to realize is what ma man BONE said black man will not say let's go kill these brothas, a black man will say lets go get them niggas. When we get that word out of our vocabulary we will grow as a race. We all need to kill that NIGGA inside us, no matter which way we use it, it needs to die.
