Nas might be the greatest lyricist but I dont think he's the greatest rapper. Cats will act like its blasphemy but I'd definitely take Nas over Rakim. Cause lyricism is about what? Originality/complexity/concepts.... Rakim was the Nas of his era. To be honest tho alot of Rakims "knowledge dropped" was really just him speaking in 5 percent dialect. Anyways If you compare the styles Nas has dropped more "science" than Ra, His flowing style is far more complex and conceptually he blows Rakim off the map. Nas' greatness is shown by his longevity...he still drops lyricism and is still successful 14 years after arriving in the game. Rakim was gone 14 years after he came in the game.

although i feel rakim is the greatest ever...i respect your opinion about nas being the best ever...you didn't say nas is the best just for the sake of saying it like some cats do...you clearly stated why.nas is definatley in my top 5!!!

Yeah, Eminem is getting slept on a lot. Nas is lyrically impressive, but for whatever reason, I think I'd rather read his lyrics than hear him spit them. It doesn't seem quite as impressive to hear someone rapping about some of his subject matter as opposed to reading it.
