Frito-Lay workers in Kansas are being forced to work 12-hour days, 7 days a week, in a dangerous factory.

This. My company spent billions to weaken our unions. Yet dumb fuckers in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Alabama, and Florida hate the unions. My salary and benefits are still straight but the future engineers are fucked.
Why yaw ain’t gat unions in the souf

And what the fuck does right to work state mean?

When I was in the union, I ain’t miss no meetings.

I was all the homies shop stewards. Them cacs hated me when I would suppress that bullshit they think gon fly

I tear the paper up and make them go write that shit up again

I feel sorry for u transport niggas

Folks act like moving is easy!!! If your job is paying just enough to get by and you really don't have much in savings... how the fcuk you gonna move?!?! And moving to another place takes a lot of preparation, having a job waiting for you, a place, etc... How are you doing that if you're working these suicide shifts?

The mentality of this country used to be; workers would pride themselves never taking a day off and working hard. The company they worked for acknowledged that and supported the worker with a wage that allowed them to care for their household. Now a company will chew you up and devour you! Make outlandish changes and expect the worker to adjust accordingly. If you read this story and just ask: "Why don't they move?" Then you're one of two things, a troll or a psychopath. These cats are working in a sweltering factory and some don't see a problem with that

And white people problems become black people problem REALLY quick nowadays!

The propaganda worked. Right to work is one of their tools to break up the Union. Me too, I got my dues worth.

Denmark also taxes 44% to 50% of its labor force.
So it does, and as a relative of mine in Canada frequently tells me,
"we feel and live the benefits of the high taxes we pay". We also
pay high taxes: please add on the co-pays, the co-insurances and
the various other fees you pay, calculate the correct tax rate, and
then decide if you are getting back as much as the people in other
industrialised countries are. Remember that the notion of medical
bankruptcies is unheard of outside the United States.

There used to be places and companies where you HAD to be in the union to work there. Right to work killed that. Now people can work in what used to be known as a "Union Shop" without being in the union and without paying dues.

It's honestly a trip to see these hillbillies I work with leave the union, then get into some kind of trouble and ask for union representation. It's... almost ... like... .they ....want to... ignore all the rules.....and do none of the work (as in paying dues and such) thinking shit is sweet....until THEY get got, then everyone is supposed to feel bad for them and run to their defense.

It bears repeating. These companies aren't doing workers any favors. They didn't just decide to be nice and give employees two days off a week, or paid vacations, or health insurance. All that shit is hard-won and as someone else in the thread said, these companies spend billions to break the unions. Why do ya'll think they do that?
It ain't just about pay and benefits. Here's some other things that your company would rather NOT provide you with: but thanks to your union, they pretty much have to...

The protection from being fired whatever, whenever wherever.
An 8 hour day/40hour week
paid overtime,
holidays off/ or paid holidays
paid vacation
a retirement pension
sick leave/time and paternity time,
safe working conditions,
rules about harassment and discrimination, (meaning more peckerhead whiteboy bullshit on the job)
protection from retaliation,
child labor and sweatshop rules- your kids would likely be working second shift- I know it's Junior's 11th birthday, and all but I really need him to work overtime tonight...

The best thing to do would be to leave them to face the music. People
would be able to contrast that with what happened when a unionised
employed was protected the union.

Some teachers in my moms union will leave but they reap the benefits. Instigating shyt, trying to get them to ask for more than what they're asking for in meetings.

I guess all the poor people in the world could just move to places with opportunity with ease right?.. no reason to have 3rd world countries than..they could just move.. who would’ve thunk that’s all it had to take to solve 1 of the worlds biggest problem.. I wonder if half a billion people around the world could just move to new York would nyc have a half a billion homes available for them? Would a half of billion jobs and opportunities just become available
no because people are stupid

Some of you cats sound disconnected from reality. You expect everyone to trade bitcoins, apple stock, do drop shipping and all these other things, but the system isn't designed to let everyone win. People have to lose in everything for there to be winners. If everyone has a mansion and a yacht, who's going to cook and clean them? Who will make corn chips when everyone is balling?

The point is, they (the corporation) can pay a living wage. The cost of living in these small towns ain't shit, so it's shameful people are working 12 hour shifts 7 days a week and can't improve their lives.

But you seem to think that applying those protections makes one a victim...how Sway? You seem to be all in on Corporations not having to abide by those Labor laws.

We've seen how supply and demand of labor has gone for McDonald's franchisees and others during this pandemic. They have been forced to finally come up off of a better wage if they want to stay in business.

Today marks 12 years since the minimum wage was raised to $7.25 — the longest period without a raise in the history of the minimum wage. That is egregious.
If the minimum wage kept up with productivity gains since 1968, it would be $24/hour today. $15/hour is the floor, not the ceiling, of what working people deserve. What do you think?

(Not YOU @lazarus you've made your position perfectly clear) :smh: :giggle:

The most shameful shit about this is I was making $7.25 an hour when I was 16 working for the county in 1982. LA county paid this much and overtime to pool lifeguards. You couldn't tell me shit bro. Working 50 hour work weeks and getting bread for knowing how to swim and teach kids to swim. Our government is shitty

Have you ever been to Denmark or Norway? I have, and if I was white I would marry one of them and live there. You simply don't understand some of the perks the workers in these countries get. I work with people from there and used to fuck with a broad from Denmark, so I've spent weeks in that country.

I'd gladly pay the extra tax for the health care and other benefits. Compare Norwegian offshore workers to US ones. The Norwegian workers rotation is 2 weeks offshore and 4 weeks at home. They get paid extra if they are on nightshift and still bring home more money at the end of the day.

US workers do even time offshore or rotations like 4 weeks offshore 2 weeks at home, or 6 and 2, or 5 and 1 and get paid less. So you will spend 8 to 9 months away from home Compared to 4 months away for less money? Oh, but my taxes are only 33%.

What's better 33% tax rate making 80k a year, or 44% tax rate making 120K a year and working 50% less hard?

Like I said, Americans are stupid

As fuck

I get into it with my redneck co-workers about this all the time. You come in here everyday and complain about working conditions, safety, management, pay etc, while simultaneously supporting the party who would, if they had their way; revert all this shit back to pre-industrial revolution conditions :smh:

They'd have those employees working in The Jungle, and the workers would still be talking about "but the democrats...".

Uh yeah most people do know this, but republican politicians brainwash their supporters by comparing America to Venezuela or North Korea. Notice they never compare them to a country that has a good standard of living, it's always a hell hole that they can look down on.

When do you move? How much does it cost to move?

Totally agree! I don't mind paying income and property taxes when I see my taxes helping my community and country! Bridges getting built, roads improved, infrastructure developed to sustain growing communities. Paying and increasing taxes is a good thing! Had an discussion with a friend of mine about wages for McDonald's workers, ultimately he said prices would go up on the food. I'm okay paying extra if some cat is able to better care for his family! Not everyone has the drive and determination to be better, for some, this is IT!!!!!

But prices go up and those increases pay directors, I gotta pay extra for some CEO's golden parachute, or exotic animals he wants to keep?
