Really? That's very interesting about Mr T. Give me a link please?
I respect your stance but I wouldn't put him in my top ten of all time concerning black music. No where near. He's so influenced which I'm not mad at. But if you look at workings such as Earth Wind & Fire's Fantasy, that's unprecedented. Out of this world. Never been done before. And I can't put Quik in that category.
I got love for Quik and respect his passion for music. Trust me, I understand it. I'm a producer by hobby myself.
He is undoubtedly one of the best WC producers IMO. But to say he's slept on is stretching it. It's so quiche. Quik gets his props.
You could argue Top 5 in rap but in black music, we've had masters.
LOL..
trust bruh u not gonna find any links to that info.
if there were some i would have it.
his comes from my oldhead uncles cousins, and aunts who seen the shit for themselves.
a lot of my family get togethers mostly consist of old music biz talk.
and they more surpised that took all this time for larry to do something to roger.
they were on some cain and abel shit for real,
and have been for years.
i totally feel u on that aspect,
but i also have learned to look at the producers and rate then in the eras in which they made their music.
itll be hard to comapre Quik to Quincy,
bcuz during quincys era it was easier to be innovative and original.
its harder to look at Quik in that manner bcuz of the precedent that he had to follow.
and i take that in consideration and not let it sway my judgement.
i can easily put phil spector up thre as bcuz of his revolutionary manipulation of sound acoustics. he did something that was never done before as well.
it blew everyones mind.
to me, being a great producer is more than just making a great finished product.
its what he actually did to get to the finished product.
the reason i call him slept on is becuz after damn near 20 professionally in the game,
there are stil ppl that dont know who DJ Quik is.
the industry may know him,
but a good portion of the mainstream listening public doesnt.
just like Fishbone and Bad Brains.
there are so called black music lovers who dont even know who these two groups are,
and theyve been around damn near 30 years.
it just sad to me that Quik would just be known as a "west coast" producer.
