slept on indeed! great beats, funny and tight lyrics, you cant have a bad day after hearing a djquick album. and he is one of the FEW artits whos' album I can actually listen to from start to finish, heck, even on random, and still enjoy about 95% of the songs. most other cats are like 4 songs tops.

MAD PROPS to QUICK.

I'm an avid DJ Quik fan but to say some bullshit like that is ridiculous.

I guess you'd put Quik ahead of this cast of producers:

Roger Trotman-
Babyface-
Stevie Wonder
George Clinton
JJ & TL
Prince
Timbaland
Quincy Jones
DJ Premiere-
Organized Noize
Dr Dre
Herbie Hancock
Etc.

Come on man?

Quik is a genius but y'all going too far with this GOAT status.

And if he doesn't have millions, that's on his paperwork skills, not the music.

And I repeat, dude is not slept on. He has the respect from his peers and millions of albums sold.

Tonite will be bumping in many of cribs and clubs tonight. One.

let me just say this bruh.
i STILL hold tru to my words.
ive had the chance be in the studio and see this man work.
and trust he is on Quncey Jones shit.

LOL.
good list.
well if u wanna go deep with it bruh, we can do that.
i come from a musician/industry family who happened to work with alot of the producers u listed.
ive heard the stories and myself have been in the presence of most of these said producers as a lil shortie while my fam was working.

Roger Trotman- yes, one of the greatest. however is brother was also responsible for most of the hots zapp had. yes, the same brother who killed him.
Babyface- more of a songwriter than producer. notice how most of the songs he "produced" for other ppl sounds the same (i.e. just like him). he became hot bcuz ppl more wanted his songs, not his production.
Stevie Wonder- a pure genius
George Clinton-a psycotic, but genius nonetheless.
JJ & TL- at the top of the list. theyd be no janet jackson without them. in my top 5. thats why prince was hating on them. AND YES PRINCE WAS HATIN ON THEM.
Prince- nuff said.
Timbaland- more of a beatmaker until he brought in danjahands and scott storch. thats when he became a producer.
Quincy Jones- the muthafuckin man.
DJ Premiere- dope and a legend, a beatmaker and nothing more.
Organized Noize- in my top 5.
Dr Dre- overrated. dres biggest talent is mixing. mike e., mel, flossy, yella, Stu B, glove, scooby, mo, scott s., daz, colin wolfe, emannuel dean (and MANY OTHERS), is who really made dre as "great" as he is. one of the reasons why detox aint never comin out,at least in a time where anyone will care.
Herbie Hancock- u made your point with HH. i feel u.
Etc.

and i never said Quik gets the GOAT status.
but like i said, ive seen this genius work, and heads up every aspect of recording from vocal production/arrangment, programming, mixing, tracking, etc.
u'd be surpised how many "producers" dont do any of that shit.
one of the only producers that actually engineers and mixes his own work too.
and he STILL chooses to record on analog for that warm sound.
a true music purist.

but u are right about bad paperwork tho.
he's had notorious street dudes handling his career from the beginning of it,
and that scared off alot of execs who coulda made this dude one of the GOATs.

Really? That's very interesting about Mr T. Give me a link please?

I respect your stance but I wouldn't put him in my top ten of all time concerning black music. No where near. He's so influenced which I'm not mad at. But if you look at workings such as Earth Wind & Fire's Fantasy, that's unprecedented. Out of this world. Never been done before. And I can't put Quik in that category.

I got love for Quik and respect his passion for music. Trust me, I understand it. I'm a producer by hobby myself.

He is undoubtedly one of the best WC producers IMO. But to say he's slept on is stretching it. It's so quiche. Quik gets his props.

You could argue Top 5 in rap but in black music, we've had masters.

Black music is music period. The best to ever do it.

LOL..
trust bruh u not gonna find any links to that info.
if there were some i would have it.
his comes from my oldhead uncles cousins, and aunts who seen the shit for themselves.
a lot of my family get togethers mostly consist of old music biz talk.
and they more surpised that took all this time for larry to do something to roger.
they were on some cain and abel shit for real,
and have been for years.

i totally feel u on that aspect,
but i also have learned to look at the producers and rate then in the eras in which they made their music.
itll be hard to comapre Quik to Quincy,
bcuz during quincys era it was easier to be innovative and original.
its harder to look at Quik in that manner bcuz of the precedent that he had to follow.
and i take that in consideration and not let it sway my judgement.

i can easily put phil spector up thre as bcuz of his revolutionary manipulation of sound acoustics. he did something that was never done before as well.
it blew everyones mind.

to me, being a great producer is more than just making a great finished product.
its what he actually did to get to the finished product.

the reason i call him slept on is becuz after damn near 20 professionally in the game,
there are stil ppl that dont know who DJ Quik is.
the industry may know him,
but a good portion of the mainstream listening public doesnt.

just like Fishbone and Bad Brains.
there are so called black music lovers who dont even know who these two groups are,
and theyve been around damn near 30 years.

it just sad to me that Quik would just be known as a "west coast" producer.

Thanks for the info man.

But the general public doesn't know about a lot of the great producers out here.

Much respect and keep spreading the knowledge.

u damn right about that.
ive actually had a chance to interview/talk with Nile Rodgers,
and when he told me about him producing the entire Like A Virgin album,
i was even in shock, bcuz i didnt know that was him.
he's one cocky somewhat bitter dude,
and has every right to be.

Billboard even called him the "worlds greatest producer",
and he is still virtually unknown in the american mainstrem.

i swear its always the brothas that get the shaft. :smh:

if Quik aint got millions from the past 17+ years of work as a rapper/producer (which he should),

THEN HE IS SLEPT ON.

and yes, Quik is the top 5 best producers not just in hip hop,
but in black music PERIOD.
and on my list he ranks higher in Dre.

every hip hop producer should be required to watch Quiks doucumentary Visualism.

Always respected him for the honesty in his rhymes...
Dude spoke about his sister putting him in the hustle game (dollars & sence)...
Also after Bigge was killed and accusations floated that the killers
had arrived in his entourage, brotha straight refutted those
claims in a song...Cant forget about just like Compton...
These examples to me, veered away from the super phyco anybody killer image most rappers would have played up...
Shit the brotha even made an authentic roots reggae song (bomb bud)..
Overall great artist and musician!

Gotta remember to exclude the "C" though, per Blood criteria. Or as Quik said years back - he left the "C" out - " 'cuz the 'C' ain't in me ..."
