Dave Chappelle or Chris Rock: Who is better Stand Up Comedian??

Damn Blunt you are spewing even more wrongness as usual! Dave THE up and coming comics out there BEFORE the show. The reason most black folks slept on him was because he was and is a mainstream comic. Most black folks got into him after he got the show. The man signed with an agency when he was 17 yrs old! That's how funny he was and is. My only problem with Dave(well 2 problems) and I know Dave and have worked with him. The man who taught Dave the game Taught me (The Fat Dr.) Dave whole stage persona was taken from a comic named Tony Woods. He was Dave's idol back in the day and he emulated everything Tony did. The 2nd thing I'll keep to myself and it's the real reason he walked away from the show, which is just one more out of a billion you've been wrong about on here.
They are both VERY GOOD, but for stand up....I got to roll with Chris on this one.
Damn, my top 2 comedians (still alive), as far as material, they'd be in a tie, but if I had to pick one, I think Chappelle's mannerisms put him over Rock.
Like Chappelle makes funny expressions to go along with the emotions of his jokes, the only expressions Rock uses are looks of disgust or shock.
If Chappelle and Rock where in a room where you could see them but couldn't hear them speak, I guarantee Chappelle would still have me rolling, Chris, I doubt it.

I always thought they had the same kind of persona, I saw Tony Woods after Chappelle got hot so I was thinking "this dude is funny, but he kinda sound like Chappelle", so it's the other way around.

Nothing "wrong" about it.
By his own admission, Chappelle floundered around after achieving a certain B or C-level status. I made the point that he was out there for a dozen years (since he was a teen) before he finally broke through in a significant way with his show. He just wasn't ready, and was too identified as that "stoner" guy from Half-Baked.
Most veteran comedians (with talent) eventually break through in totally unexpected ways. They all struggle for years before they find the right MOMENT. Dave found his with his show. Right place, right time. Rodney Dangerfield was around forever before he suddenly became "hip" around 1980. Same goes for lots of big names, including Seinfeld and Chris Rock. If you stick around long enough (and you're good) you'll eventually get some sort of big break.
You can go tell HIM and his staff that they're "wrong," since their descriptions of the series of events that led to his departure are on the record.

Seems like Chris forces a lot of his comedy with his yelling/raising his voice or whatever you wanna call it. Not saying he is not good, but just not better than Chappelle in my opinion. With Dave it seems more effortless for him. Just looking at the dude before he says anything just makes me laugh b/c you know he is gonna say some funny shit. Too bad there is no more Chappelle show.

these chris rock supporters are really just a bunch of jock riders. anyone with sense will notice that chris rock does the same routine of jokes every 2 years then he comes up with something completely new. dave chappelle is naturally funny and could whip up a 45 minute comedy show without the use of writers and note cards.
cosign. they're both good commedians in their own way. I don't think you can purely compare them to each other.

Yes, only because Rock has done the funniest bit I ever heard... black folks vs. niggas!!!!!!! I love what Dave does and what he did on his show but that bit Chris did can't be touched. Despite the fact that I know of two jokes Chris stole he gets the nod from me.

Chris Rock is the best stand up right now. Why? Professionalism. His outlook on stand-up is like a musician putting on a show. He is trying to come up to Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor level. They script their shows like a play.
But if you had to put up a microphone, stool, and a glass of water on a stage and you tell those two people to "Make Me Laugh"... no script, no pre-rehearsed topics, just freestyle- Dave Chappelle. Dave Chappelle is the most like Richard Pryor in this regard: You sit down next to Richard Pryor at a bar and you will probably die laughing. Back in the day, Richard Pryor used to walk into a room and people would just start laughing. Not a joke told, just walking into a room.
Dave is becoming like that. Dave Chappelle is just funny. And the best part about it is that he's really smart... probably one of the most intelligent brothers in the game.
