Face it, you're in the minority. Chris Rock is the black Gilbert Gottfried. WTF is he yelling for?

Im just stating my opinion......

But for real? I dont know what the person I quoted is trying to say about laugh tracks and how its relevant or ties in to the discussion.

Maybe im crazy and missed something?

rock overdoes it and forces it - he doesn't have the swagger

Theres that fuckin word again..... Swagger.

Just say Chappelle Style is funnier to you. I mean, if thats the man's act thats his act. I swear I dont get the logic used here most of the time

I don't think Gilbert Gottfried does social commentary. He just tells dirty jokes.

Rock's act is in the Richard Pryor tradition and Chappelle's is in the Flip Wilson tradition (only more stoned and cruder).

the funniest thing chris rock ever did was bigger and blacker, other than that he is lame

And what did Chappelle do before and after his 2-year show. For the first 12 years of his career his claim to fame was Half-Baked!!! Dude was going nowhere fast, until the show came along for a minute. Now he's back to going nowhere again.

I saw Chappelle a year ago after a Badu concert (maaaad hoes there  and this cat chapelle was walking around with a backpack on ), he did like a 3 AM show. Shit was unreal, ALL UNWRITTEN. He was just clowning people in the crowd, talking about shit he COULD NOT HAVE HAD PREWRITTEN. Talking to people in the crowd, some real shit. All hilarious. Incredible performance, before I saw that I would have said Rock but fuck it. Dave is like a comedy jedi master now.

He did stand up and he was funnier than Chris Rock even back Then.

Watching one time = Chappelle
Watching multiple times = Rock

Since I tend to prefer comedians who I can listen to over and over again I'll go with Chris on this one.

Obviously I wasn't the only one. He ended up with his own show.

On Comedy Central!!! Every comic gets a crack at a show there at some point. Nothing to lose.

Chris had a successful, Emmy-winning show on HBO years earlier.

I think alot of dudes are thinking about Chappelle on Comedy Central. Chris hands down is the best stand up.

So even though those of us who said dave talk about how funny his stand up is yall going to keep saying its due to the show.

I like Chris but he isnt that funny to me. It's not like I'm new to his act i remember when he was on Uptown Comedy Express with Areseino.

Chris' brand of comedy is "smarter", he actually bring awareness to things you may have never thought of and make you laugh in the process.
Chris Rock would have been a great school teacher.

Dave is a character, with a distinctly animated voice.
Very funny dude, a natural born comedian.:D:yes:

I have to say Dave's stand-up is funnier which to me makes him better.

Yet, how many were successful? How many were able to sellout their dvd's? How many were offered 50 million to continue?

Did you miss the point?? I said in the 12 years BEFORE his flukishly successful 2-year show and in the years AFTER!!!

(BTW, those DVDs sold so surprisingly well because so few people watched the show originally. The ratings for that network are tiny. Thanks to word-of-mouth the DVDs became a must-have, which caught everyone, including Dave, by surprise. He obviously never really recovered from the shock of his unexpected success. )

Chris Rock had a hugely successful (and more varied) show on HBO years earler.

Chris Rock

Some of yall are going with Dave soley off of one or two stand up routines and his show.

I'm going off of seeing Dave on different late night, and comedy shows. He was funny but less known. I like Chris Rock but he isn't that funny.

chris rock became unfunny nearly 10 years ago ever since bigger and blacker came out. ever since then, his movies and his comedy specials have been lame. but overall i think alot of people give chris the benefit of the doubt based on his name. if we are saying who "currently" is the best standup comedian, i would have to go with dave. i have to agree with everyone elses analysis with dave... he is creative/original. he can think of jokes and material from off the top of his head. with chris rock, most interviews that he gives, he incorporates recycled material from his stand up routines. and half the time he screwes up those rehersed jokes when the interview is live.

Okay just to latch on to my last post. Yes Chappelle walked away from 50 mil because he knew that he would not be able to top the first two seasons of his show, but coming off of hiatus he went back to touring as a stand up comedian and still does to this day. His shows sell out. DC is constantly honing what he's done since he was 15. Chris Rock is a funny ass dude as well, but his last two stand up specials were lackluster IMO.

Loved the chris rock show but that aint stand up.

Yeah when Dave came back from the motherland his stand up was fire.

:hmm:

He did topical stand-up on every show (along with sketch-interviews, real-interviews, and hilarious "man on the street" shit).

Everything Chappelle did on his show was scripted, and only partially by him. Much of his stand-up was co-scripted by his longtime [white] partner as well.

exactly. The question is who is the better stand up comedian.

Answer.....

Chris Rock

Whose the better sketch artist?

Dave Chappelle.

Whose funnier?

Thats personal preference.

Honestly, I think cats are thinking about Chris' recent stand up which IMO was just alright.

But his previous stand ups are CLASSIC

C/S

I like Dave's humour and he's VERY funny.

I hold him in HIGH regard as a comedian.

But Chris RULES the STAGE.

Chris Rock. His timing is better.and his commentary is much better.Chappelle is borderline stuck "around the way" via Katt williams.

Chappelle is clearly much better at sketch comedy. He's a gifted comedic actor. Rock has been superior as a stand-up, since he matured. His HBO specials have been historic (at least the first two).

I agree with Blunt:eek:
