'Drunk' man survives driving car off 40ft cliff and then tells paramedics he doesn't want their help
A motorist who drove his car over a 40ft cliff was able to walk away from the accident without serious injuries.

The suspected drunk driver refused to allow paramedics to treat him at the scene of the crash in San Diego.

The man, who has not been named, drove his sedan over the steep bluff in the early hours of yesterday morning.

To reach the shoreline he had already smashed through a lock gate at high speed, police told U-T San Diego.

The man got out of his car and started wandering around the beach and in the water, ignoring bystanders on the cliff above.

His car landed the correct way up and was relatively undamaged, although the back end appeared to have been damaged in the fall.

When witnesses called 911, firefighters, paramedics and lifeguards arrived at the scene, some swimming to the cove and others being lowered down by a hoist.

However, the man initially refused to receive treatment despite his injuries.

One paramedic told U-T San Diego, 'He was fighting, screaming and yelling.'

Eventually rescue workers managed to calm him down, and the man was airlifted to UC San Diego Medical Center, where he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

He was suspected of having been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident, according to police.

The car remained on the beach for several hours, being lapped by the waves, until it was finally removed by a tow truck.

Dozens of bystanders gathered around the cliff in the Sunset Cliffs area to watch the operation unfold.

Floods in Bayern Destroy Jaguar Landrover Dealership in Deggendorf
The continuous rain of the last few weeks in Southern-Germany and part of the Alps has taken its toll on a Jaguar Landrover dealership in the Bavarian town of Deggendorf. The last week Deggendorf and the surrounding area got flooded when the Danube river couldn’t take all the rain water and water from connecting rivers. The complete south bank of the Danube near Deggendorf but also large parts of Central Germany and Czech Republic flooded.

The Jaguar Landrover dealership called Autohaus Griesbeck is located near the German Autobahn A3 that was closed due to the floods for several days as well. The water came so quickly that the dealer didn’t have time to move the cars in is showroom to higher ground. The water came over the Jaguar F-Types roof and also the Range Rovers were nearly completely drowned in the 3 feet of water that was standing in the showroom.

The cars in the showroom will all be considered a total loss. Now with the water gone a huge job of cleaning and fixing will begin. We wish Autohaus Griesbeck and the people in Deggendorf and other flooded areas all the best!

Bridge collapses in Kentucky after being rammed by hulking freighter carrying space rocket parts
Incredible images emerged of a hulking freighter wearing mangled pieces of a steel bridge on its bow after a collision in southwestern Kentucky Thursday night.

In the pictures, the 312-foot Delta Mariner idles, still partially in the bridge's path, and clearly looks much too large to fit beneath the aging Eggner Ferry Bridge, which crosses the Kentucky Lake Reservoir.

The cargo vessel was carrying space rocket parts for the United Launch Alliance, intended for a vehicle that was scheduled to be shot into orbit from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.

Two sections of the bridge, which is the only route across the lake and the Tennessee River, collapsed after the crash.

Unbelievably no one was injured after the collision, though one driver described the harrowing experience of slamming on his breaks and stopping just a few feet short of oblivion after finding the bridge suddenly stopped.

Robert Parker, 51, of Cadiz, Kentucky, said he and his wife were traveling northbound on the highway after leaving his stepson's house in Murray, Kentucky. They were driving in the rain along the darkened bridge around 8pm when they suddenly noticed a missing 20-foot piece of the bridge, which at that section stands at least 20 feet above the water.

'All of a sudden I see the road's gone and I hit the brakes,' he said. 'It got close.'

Mr Parker said he stopped his pickup within five feet of the missing section. Two cars behind him stopped on his bumper and he saw another car on the other side of the missing section stopped.

State officials are inspecting what's left of the bridge.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Chuck Wolfe says inspectors began the in-depth review of the Eggner Ferry Bridge at US Highway 68 and Kentucky Highway 80 at daylight Friday.

'At this point, we don't believe there was any loss of life,' said Keith Todd, spokesman for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

He said there also were no injuries on board the boat. He was unable to say where the ship was traveling when it struck the bridge.

Officials said the collapse meant vehicles needing to cross the Kentucky Lake reservoir and the Tennessee River had to be detoured for dozens of miles. The Coast Guard blocked access to boat traffic at the bridge site.

Mr Parker said he didn't feel the vessel strike the bridge but "felt the bridge was kind of weak." They had to detour about 50 miles to return home to Cadiz.

Officials say about 2,800 vehicles travel daily on the bridge, which was due to be replaced.

Driver's near-miss with boulder during Taiwan landslide caught on tape
KEELUNG CITY, Taiwan — Go ahead and file this one under "close calls."

As a white sedan was making its way down a road in Taiwan during a rainstorm Saturday, a shower of mud and rock caused by a landslide from a nearby mountain pushed the car out of the way of a massive boulder, which teetered for a terrifying moment next to the car before coming to a rest.

If the car hadn't been knocked off its path by the landslide, the huge boulder would probably have crushed it.

The incident occurred in northern Taiwan, on Beining Road, which leads from the Zhongzheng District of Keelung City to New Taipei City's Ruifang District, according to The Taipei Times. A nearby tropical storm caused heavy rains in Taiwan over the weekend, which likely loosened the soil on the mountainside seen in the video.

Landslide warnings were in effect during the storm, according to the China Post, and a landslide in the southern part of the country caused a train to crash as it entered a tunnel, injuring 17 people, China's state-run Central News Agency reported.

Two seconds into the video, which was posted on YouTube, the boulder can be seen breaking loose from the top of the mountain in the distance.

A better view of the size of the boulder and the damage to the car due to the mudslide:eek:

Family barely escapes when garbage truck driver sneezes, plows into home
A New Jersey family is lucky to be alive after a garbage truck driver sneezed, lost control of his vehicle and plowed into a house.

Sandra Guillaume and her twin daughters, 4, and son, 7, miraculously escaped uninjured from Tuesday morning's 8 a.m. crash — which saw their East Hanover home destroyed by flames.
N Tassielli Disposal Inc. driver Wayne Whitsitt, 55, incredibly only suffered a gash across his head.

Cops said the truck jumped a curb on Daniel Drive and drove across several lawns before crashing into the Guillaumes’ rented home.

The impact sparked an electrical fire that spread throughout the property and the vehicle.

The family, which was on the other side of the home, ran to safety.

Neighbors pulled Whitsitt out of the vehicle.

The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.

But Whitsitt reportedly said he sneezed, which led a water bottle to fall down and become lodged under the brake pedal.

Firefighters spent several hours putting out the flames.

The building is so badly damaged it will now have to be demolished, reports ABC7.

The homeless family is now being helped by the Red Cross in finding a place to stay. Temporarily, the Red Cross had put the Guillame family up at the Ramada Inn in East Hanover.

Cops said they were looking at whether speed played a role in the crash, adding that charges are possible against the driver.

So far, Whitsitt has been issued motor vehicle summonses for reckless driving and careless driving.

Thursday, May 9th marks the 33rd anniversary of the Skyway disaster
MANATEE COUNTY - If you lived on the Suncoast 33 years ago, you remember where you were when you heard the Skyway Bridge had collapsed. On May 9th, 1980, dozens of people died after plunging off the Skyway and into Tampa Bay just seconds after it was hit by an out of control freighter.

In the middle of a fierce storm the 600-foot Summit Venture tried to make it under the Skyway Bridge at 7:30am. Winds up to 50 miles an hour blew it off course and into the old bridge's concrete supports, sending the southbound span crashing into the bay.

Drivers heading south into Manatee County, blinded by heavy rain, could not see the deadly void in front of them. Eight vehicles, including a Greyhound bus carrying 22 passengers, plunged 150 feet into the water. 35 people died that day.

One man, Wesley MacIntire, survived the fall when his car landed on the deck of the Summit Venture before falling into the bay.

The pilot of the ship, John Lerro, was cleared of wrongdoing by both a state grand jury and a Coast Guard investigation.

For years later, drivers using what was left of the Skyway had to relive the disaster and the horror experienced by those who died by viewing the missing middle span of the southbound lanes.

The fishing piers on each side of the bay are all that remain of the old bridge. The new Sunshine Skyway Bridge that we use today opened in April, 1987.

Runaway truck carrying 45 tons of sand flattens vehicle, hits home
BOUNTIFUL, Utah (AP) — A red vehicle sitting in a Bountiful driveway was flattened Thursday morning after it was hit by a runaway semitrailer carrying 45 tons of sand.

Nobody was injured in the crash that happened a little before 7 a.m. Thursday, but the front of a home was wrecked and the car crushed.

The truck driver had been hauling a full load of sand up an incline on the way to Bountiful Ridge Golf Course when he attempted to downshift, according to Bountiful police Sgt. Andrew Bryson. He couldn’t get the vehicle in gear, and the brakes went out when he tried to stop it, police said.

The heavy semitrailer rolled backward for about half a city block, burst through a retaining wall and smashed the car before it finally came to a stop partway inside a home.

Bryson said the residents of the home were eating breakfast in another part of the house. They were not injured.

But the red car — which was waiting for pickup by a new owner who had purchased it a day earlier — was destroyed.

The truck driver had proper permits for carrying the heavy load and police didn’t plan to cite him, although an investigation is ongoing.

“It looks like a gross mechanical failure,” Bryson said.

He added that it’s fortunate no other cars or people were in the truck’s path. The street is close to a Mormon temple and a school.

“That’s generally a very busy road,” he said.

Lamborghini Aventador Splits in Half Following Crash in Brooklyn, NYC
A white Lamborghini Aventador has split in half after what can only be presumed as a high-speed crash in Brooklyn, New York City.

As you’d imagine, the scene is quite horrific with the rear of the car and its engine being left in the middle of the road while the cabin was thrown against a brick wall and briefly caught fire. The accident was apparently caused by a Mazda which started to go past the stop sign at a junction. The Lamborghini happened to be approaching at a high rate of speed and had to maneuver to get out of the way. This incident takes us back to the Ferrari Enzo crash a few years back in Malibu which saw that Italian exotic split in half in identical fashion.

While the image of a Lamborghini Aventador split in half is quite shocking, the car has been designed to do just that in high-speed crashes with breakaway bolts helping to detach the rear-end from the carbon fiber monocoque of the front. Consequently, a part from a few burnt areas, the front-end looks relatively undamaged meaning the occupants hopefully escaped without any serious injuries.

What would you do if you were driving on the road when all of a sudden and from nowhere, a pickup truck comes rolling in front of your car? Well, we humans usually react in one of two possible ways: freeze up or instinctively make a quick move.

Luckily, the driver featured in this dash-cam video who was travelling in a Ford Ranger somewhere in Thailand went for the second option when he saw a Mazda BT-50 pickup truck coming towards him.

He smoothly moved the truck to the other lane and saved his head – possibly even the other driver as well, since it was mentioned that the person in the BT-50 made it out alive suffering only an injury to his arm.

Police will remove the car to help with the investigation into the crash which occurred at Cape Patton, between Apollo Bay and Kennett River, on Sunday afternoon.

The car went through a guard rail and down a 92m embankment around 4.30pm.

The crane will be set up at the crash site around 8.30am tomorrow morning and will winch the vehicle up the embankment.

Police expect Great Ocean Road will be closed to traffic in both directions for at least two hours.

Traffic will be diverted at Lorne and Skenes Creek.

Police earlier confirmed the man who died in the horror cliff plunge was a 31-year-old Victorian.

The man, from Kealba, was with his partner when their car plummeted off the cliff.

The woman was trapped for nearly two hours above her partner’s dead body while she waited for rescue crews to winch her to safety.

In horrifying scenes, the driver was flung on to rocks more than 20m from the vehicle after it careered through a guard rail near the Cape Patton Lookout, east of Apollo Bay.

The man was killed instantly but the woman, in her 40s, was pinned inside the crumpled car and had to be monitored by emergency crews using binoculars until they could get to her.

The couple were travelling east along the busy tourist route when the accident happened about 4.30pm.

It took 90 minutes for the woman to be freed before she was winched to safety.

"She was conscious the whole time," CFA District 6 officer Byron Kershaw said.

When rescue crews arrived they could see her waving her arm.

"It was a very technical rescue, because the embankment was vertical.

"Rescue crews used ropes to take down their hydraulic equipment."

The impact had caused the vehicle's motor to be flung from the bonnet, he said. An air ambulance landed on rocks near the mangled Volkswagen, which had fallen about 150m below the cliff.

She was flown to Kennett River for stabilisation before being flown to The Alfred.

A spokeswoman for Ambulance Victoria said the woman was suffering injuries to the pelvis, legs and stomach.

She was last night in a serious but stable condition.

Points South Hotel owner Bryan James said the road was not dangerous but people were often distracted by the scenery or tourists who forgot which side of the road to drive on.

Mr James said he travelled the road daily and often saw tourists stopped dangerously on the road.

"You'll get tourists who stop in the middle of the road to look at the view or a koala," he said.

The Cape Patton lookout was also a draw card that people had to cross lanes to get into, he said.

Out-Of-Control Vehicle Crashes, Goes Airborne, Lands In Highland Park Fountain
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — An out-of-control car came barreling into crowded Highland Park Thursday night and crashed upside down in the middle of the fountain.

Some witnesses say they ran to get away from the car.

Dr. Sarah Hagerty happened to be sitting on the side of the fountain moments before the car came up.

She says the car hit a bench sending it flying before hitting the edge of the fountain and then going airborne.

The car landed upside down in the middle of the fountain on top of the part that shoots water into the air.

“He knocked the bench out and then he hit the front of the cement,” said Allison Law, a witness. “I can’t recall if he did one or two flips – and landed upside down on top of the fountain.”

Dr. Hagerty ran over to raise up the elderly driver’s head out of the water. She says he was talking, and she tried to keep him still and calm.

“He was able to tell me his name, but he didn’t know what was going on,” said Dr. Hagerty. “I just tried to calm him down and told him not to move.”

Police believe the driver may have had some kind of medical problem that led to the incident.

Alberto Leon, Miami Driver, Arrested After Guardrail Impales Car
A sleepy Miami driver who nodded off behind the wheel Monday is lucky to be alive after he drove into a guardrail that impaled the full length of his car, just a foot away from where he sat, reports WSVN 7.

Alberto Leon, 36, told Florida Highway Patrol that he had been working long hours when he feel asleep while driving westbound on the Dolphin Expressway Monday afternoon. Watch the video above.

FHP Trooper Russell Cruz explained to Local 10 that Leon was traveling at 55 mph when he did a 180, twisting the guardrail with him.

"Luckily, the driver was able to walk away with minor injuries," Cruz told Local 10. "If the guardrail had been a foot or two to the other side, it could have been a lot worse."

But Leon didn't exactly get to walk away.

WSVN reports that Leon was arrested for driving with a suspended license, and his past violations include driving without a license, speeding, careless driving, driving without proof of insurance, making an improper lane change and driving an unsafe vehicle.

This car accident is gory so don't click if you can't handle. What a horrible way to die...

We need the government to fund autonomous driving vehicles to make the roads safer, instead of funding autonomous bombs. The benefits of which would be tremendous in laying off police and judges that don't have to investigate car accidents.

It should not be something exclusive for the rich.

Man backs his friend's BMW SUV into Newark Bay, forcing a swim to safety
A man had to swim out of his friend’s 2012 BMW X5 wagon Saturday evening after he accidentally backed the car into Newark Bay from a boat ramp at the 16th Street Park in Bayonne, police said.

The owner of the vehicle, a 31-year-old Lodi man, was watching around 7:30 p.m. as his friend slowly backed the vehicle, which had a boat trailer attached, down the ramp so they could retrieve his 22-foot 4-Winns Sundowner boat from the water, police said.

But then the vehicle suddenly bolted down the ramp and submerged, with its roof underwater, police said.

The driver got himself out of the vehicle and the 31-year-old Lodi man and two bystanders helped him back onto dry land, police said.

The driver told cops he was reversing down the ramp when he felt ill and mistakenly stepped on the gas pedal, causing the vehicle to crash into the water, police said.

McCabe Ambulance EMTs took the driver, who was complaining of chest pain, to the Bayonne Medical Center, reports said.

The driver, who was not identified, was unable to produce a driver’s license and was issued a summons for being an unlicensed driver, reports said..

The vehicle and boat trailer were submerged in about four feet of water, necessitating firefighters from Bayonne Fire Department Rescue Company 1 to don divers suits to secure the vehicle for towing, Fire Chief Gregory Rogers said.

Rogers said he did not believe there were fluid leaks from the vehicle into the bay, but the state Department of Environmental Protection and Hudson Regional Health were notified nonetheless.

^^Luckiest driver...EVER!!

Audi RS6 ABT Crash – Yes, he made it out alive without barely a scratch!
First of all, what you’re seeing in the image above is ONE, and I repeat ONE single car! According to the guy who posted these pics on “RS6”, the driver of this split-up Audi RS6 ABT is his brother-in-law. We’re talking about one hell of a lucky chap here as he obviously passed through the valley of death and took a wink at the devil to come out of this crash alive with barely a scratch or two!

This is what his brother-in-law quoted: “What you see is what you get, i.e. there was no cutting of the vehicle prior to the pictures being taken. It is my brother-in-law that you see holding the mobile phone, he honestly doesn't know the speed that he was going at but wasn't near as fast as he has done in the past on that particular part of the road.

Although the road was completely dry he said that it felt he was on ice and the car just careened into the tree. He actually called the emergency services and climbed out of the car by himself, he spent only a couple of hours in hospital, apart from a few minor scratches he got a bandage around his little finger, I told him if he's not already religious he should take it up ASAP!
