I have seen and heard them both. They ain't nothing special. I understand if you feel differently but I know better.
He is an old shcool musician who has worked with many of the greats and is probably expressing what many great musicians feel about Beyonce in terms of historical context.
Historically speaking, Beyonce is a great Pop singer, but not a great all time singer, if you are young or not into the history of music then your opinions may be limited, but 20 years from now when Beyonce popularity would have died down, it should be easier for most to put her into historical context.
He needs to go and watch this shit and get a lesson on how Bey can blow.....Fuck was he thinking........

I have have a long history in the music industry and have heard all types of singers..
But that shit was amazing almost like she had a speaker box in her throat..
I never would have believed in a million years, that the human anatomy is capable of doing that shit.
So my level of being impressed is way higher than most folks..
How you comparing Opera to a R&B singer?

Because once you hear a Opera singer sing face to face, your whole concept of what a trained singer is changes..
I will add this, just because you are a better singer doesn't mean you make better songs either, because take someone like Sade who has a very nice voice but not the best pure singer in the world, to me she makes better songs than someone like Mavis Staples who technically is a better singer..
Same can be said about Beyonce and some of the other singers I named.
I think people confuse singing ability with better sounding...

I can get you a dozen Adeles and just on all the stuff I listed...
I mean VOCALLY? Beyonce can hold her own against ANYONE.
Adele can't even SING a mid tempo song to save her life
and not to get personal but her voice has given out NUMEROUS times to the point doctors advised her NOT to sing for extended periods of time more then once.

and her last album was basic as f*ck it was NOT in any way in the league of Lemonade.
but honestly a Grammy don't mean nothing at THAT level so I hope all this talk and debate leads to MORE artists NOT attending unless they are performing.
Believe it or not but great singers such as Aretha, Whitney shit even Freddy Mercury can do both with a little bit of training.. But before you can even consider singing Opera your range have to be off the chart.
This is why Ava Maria is often used as the standards for most female singers, as a Opera singer you have to be able to master it hands down, but as a all time great singer you should at least be able to sing it and sound good.
As far as Ardel, her delivery (something that tempo falls under) is no where near Beyonce, but I have yet to hear the full range of her voice, I know she has a very strong voice but I cannot comment on her full range..
I don't know perhaps Santana know something we both don't know, but as I earlier stated you don't have to be that great of a singer to be able to actually sing better than Beyonce.
You can if your criteria is pure singing.. For example Freddy Mercury is considered a Rock and Roll singer, but you can match his voice with other genres of music all he has to do is sing songs that show case his singing ability.
All great singers know that there are things you should do to be considered in the rankings of all time great.. I think Beyonce tried at some and failed miserably but secretly wants to make it to the next level.
