Carlos Santana: Beyoncé ‘Not a Singer, Singer'

When has it been required to be a singer, singer when giving out Album of the Year? Was it when Taylor Swift won, twice??
You Sir make a great point. In my opinion It's not the validity of the Singer that should be in question but rather the validity of the award.

Beyonce can sing sing. The fact that she can sing while doing all that damn dancing is very impressive; when u consider the breathing thats involved. People who work out should know what I mean. Do some hiit and try to have a simple conversation. Shits hard.

Beyonce has props, dancers etc because it fits her style of music and performance. Adele doesn't make the type of music that needs dancers etc. She also doesn't have the look to do a Beyonce type performance.

Adele, Beyonce...neither of them have Whitney or Aretha voices...but both can sing.

I think what he's saying that if Beyonce looked like Precious she would be a nobody. And he's right.

Ive gotta agree with Santana.. Ive never thought beyonce was a good singer. Yeah, she does the same ole hip grinding move, which is good for videos.. But singing, nah Ill pass..

We talking singers and talent, so a rant is incoming. . .

In terms of soulfulness and technical ability ... I have my own GOAT . . .

KellyPrice.jpg

I love Aretha and Patti, no doubt. This isn't even about quality of songs. Clearly Aretha and Patti are legendary artists. . .

. . . but not only do I just love the sound of Kelly's voice, but she is an extremely talented, powerhouse vocalist. She can go from 0-100. Beyonce can probably go from 0-70. With her looks, that is remarkable, and why she is where she is. I don't know if nature would allow for someone with Kelly's voice to look like Beyonce. LOLOLOL.

What's funny is, from a technical standpoint, the most gifted singers are relatively unknown. D'atra Hicks, for instance. I first heard of her through Tyler Perry's stage plays - TP might not write worth a damn, but that motherfucking have given a platform to some of the most ridiculous singers I have ever heard. Like where is he finding all of these motherfuckers? - and I heard her do something vocally back in the very early 2000s, that combined vocal dexterity, range and breath control, that I still don't know how it was humanly possible. She is, however, a very crazy human being. Mentally.

Rachelle Ferrell does a lot of weird shit with her mouth, AND she has super-sized soup-coolers. Her singing style is even unorthodox. If you're talking talent, tho'? Rachelle is kind of scary.

Melonie Daniels from NYC. Vocally could go toe to toe with probably any singer I've ever heard, AND has this grit to her voice reminiscent of David Ruffin. This woman not only has a super-powerful voice, but its very dexterous. Imagine Bo Jackson with moves like Mike Vick. . . . . . . exactly. Even more interesting is her range. She can go from authentic bass to super-WTF-how did you get there;nobody's 'sposed to be there-soprano. She's had minimal success as a recording artist, but is better known to those in the know for her background work with legendary artists, and her live performances in NYC's live music scene.

Anthony Williams bka Tonex. An over-singing, out of the closet homosexual. However . . .

. . . this dude is a vocal mutant. Mutant. Never heard an adult male singer with that much range. Dude can even sing in the whistle register (e.g. Minnie Ripperton; Mariah; Rachelle Ferrell). At this point, he's a live performer at this point, doing older songs he recorded, and covers of other artists songs. Some of his performances are super-pause worthy, and you just have to turn the shit off. Other times he wants to dress like a normal man, and then its easier to forget, because the talent is truly top .01%

100% melanie Daniels sang alot of Mariah Carey's vocals on records (shhhhh.....u didnt read this from me ) :)
That's how bad she is ,I've heard her do solid Bass parts that some men couldn't sustain. Scaaary!! Sucks cos Mariah has the looks and melanie the voice

ToneX is a vocal freak
If any of them were white we'd be in Elvis territory

That's wasnt the argument padna!! The ALBUM OF THE YEAR ,same award that Taylor Swift has won is the argument, stay on point ! If Adele was black she'd get no looks , str8 up !!

Spectrum, I agree with this, in addition, it could be mentioned that Beck's "Morning Phase," won Album of the Year in 2015 and struggled to be certified gold.

So using Santana's logic, Beck is more of a "singer singer" than Beyoncé since his album beat hers that year.

And for anyone who thinks Beyoncé can't sing, you need to clear your ears out. Whilst I'm not a fan of her music as I think it's mostly trash, she has a great range and vocal control. Sadly, people overlook that because she puts on a performance.

Michael Jackson was one of the best vocalist in pop music, but sadly his dancing tends to overshadow that fact.

Carlos Santana: Beyoncé ‘Not a Singer, Singer.. Isnt that the name of the thread??

The question on singers should be "would I listen this person sing sitting on a stool on a stage with a dummer and a guitarist" Beyonce, Micheal Jackson great entertainers, would not go to the local club to see them perform, then your great. Whitney Houston, Anita Baker, Jill Scott great vocalist, listen to them sing standing on a stump in the park. The issue is that most people can't sit at home in a dim room and listen to nina simone, today's music climate is dance and ass shaking.

i'd go with gladys knight, phyllis hyman and natalie cole.

the three that you have chosen (imo) are much too nasal.
...Patti LaBelle, Stephanie Mills and Deniece Williams ...would humiliate Adele in a prime vs prime matchup

Man Michael has one of the greatest pure singing voices in American history, since he was 10yrs old. Your analysis is flawed.

If Adele wasn't white she would be a nobody. So his and your point are both ass.

Fucking EXACTLY.

Her fat ass can't sing better than Jasmine Sullivan, or Kelly Price.

Both Jasmine and Sullivan were both emotional destroyed by their own labels due to their weight/image issues.

Adele comes out, and fat white bitches rule...

Santana basically is mentally fucked, about imagery and seemingly has no historical context to how music, business and white supremacy NEVER sleep, and can even use Latinos to do their bidding.

Dumb ass statement

Mine and Santana's points were not about Adele. They were about Beyonce. I'm not an Adele fan. So your comment was completely off base.

his comments were to about Adele........Adele can sing sing how's that not about Adele? You brought up looks as to discredit beyounce well you can't say she wouldn't be shit if she was Fat, black and ugly, because if Adele was fat, black and ugly she wouldn't be shitbeither

Its unfortunate that Carlos Santana would say such a thing. To minimize Beyonce by saying her talent is simply based on her looks, is a shameful position. I don't think Beyonce can sing very well either, but her music was, and is, way more relevant to American society than Adele.

If they have a Latin Grammy's, why is Adele even invited. She's from Europe.

How you know she can sing. Didn't you only keep two tracks off her album?

This is the same shit as the George Lopez shit....this man is showing his lack of respect for the RACE...and MOST of you so called "blacks" are backing him up....Adele WON....so why even mention Beyoncé?

The Grammys diss our people every year....every year we go back, every year we praise and bestow honor towards them....and as clearly shown by this thread, kissing ass and cooning only ads fuel to the fire...

If you are Black, realize this shit will continue until you stand up and a) respect yourself and b) demand respect

Adele knew what her getting that award was about (which many of you so called "black folks" want to deny so badly) it was about disrespecting Black music, which is the heart of all music. All she did was try to give Bey the respect she deserves.
