Cam Newton rips NFL refs: 'I don't even feel safe'

Source: Cardinals' Calais Campbell fined $18K for hit on Cam Newton

The NFL has fined Arizona Cardinals defensive end Calais Campbell $18,231 for his low hit on Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, a source told ESPN's Dan Graziano, confirming multiple reports.

Campbell's fine was first reported by USA Today, which also noted that he is appealing, citing a person with knowledge of the situation.

The hit did not draw a flag, but the league has since admitted Campbell should have been penalized for roughing the passer.

After Sunday's 30-20 victory over Arizona, Newton complained about not receiving the same treatment as other quarterbacks regarding late hits in the pocket.

The NFL MVP said the breaking point was the non-call on Campbell's hit below the knees in the third quarter.

On Wednesday, Newton said he had a "great discussion" with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell about the number of hits he takes in the pocket.

"I got my point across. He got his point across. That's it," Newton said a day after he talked to Goodell by phone.

Cam doesn't help himself with the taunting and showboating. It makes people want to get in that shot when the opportunity arises and that concussion he suffered was his fault.

fuck outta here with that. don't give a damn what kinda showboating he out there doing, a penalty is a penalty and it should be called. the fact that they do it AFTER the fact with fines defeats the purpose of penalizing late, low or high hits because it's not being done at the time it happens.

you're talking about potential GAME CHANGING penalties. missed first downs, extended drives, points left on the field, defensive impact players ejected for continually doing the shit....nah man I'm not buying this for one second.

them niggas can be mad all they want. the officials have a job and that's to throw tha damn flag

If the refs want to call it they'll call it but most refs are incompetent no matter the sport. Now again his antagonizing of opponents leads them to want to hit him whenever the opportunity arises regardless of whether a flag comes or not. And him walking into the endzone against the Falcons on some showboat shit instead of running into the endzone is what led to him getting his bell rung on that play.

Bruh i don't give two fucks what cam did to provoke an illegal or late or low or high hit. he could have had a 3some with one of the defensive back's mother and fiancé on the 50 yard line at half time. I DO NOT CARE.

the official has to throw a flag and penalize the player that committed the infraction, plain and simple.

end of story.
