Well damn... another prediction of mine has come to pass..... WOW

'The Boss' takes down 'Batman v Superman' in box-office squeaker

Sorry, Batman. Apologies, Superman. Melissa McCarthy is the new box-office boss — at least for now.

The actress' new R-rated comedy The Boss squeaked past Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice to win its opening weekend, according to studio estimates from comScore. McCarthy's film scored $23.481 million — just enough to break the two-week streak of the superhero movie, which took in $23.435 million and ran its domestic total to $296.7 million.

However, it's a virtual tie for first place with less than a $50,000 difference between them, and The Boss and Batman v Superman could flip positions when final figures are released Monday, says comScore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian.

Much has been made of Batman v Superman's critical failure to launch, but few were kind to The Boss. It received poor reviews on the whole from critics — with just 18% approving at aggregate review site RottenTomatoes.com — and a low C-plus grade from audiences at CinemaScore.

That said, crowds like McCarthy's "style and her tell-it-like-it-is sensibilities. It really seems to work for her," says Dergarabedian.

Since her breakout movie performance in Bridesmaids five years ago, McCarthy has joined the ranks of Leonardo DiCaprio, Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg as one of Hollywood's most bankable stars, Dergarabedian adds. “It’s a short list of actors who pretty much every time out of the gate have success with audiences."

Batman v Superman might be running out of gas at the box office, but with nearly $800 million banked worldwide, "this movie has forced its way very strongly to big numbers," Dergarabedian says. "The DC (Comics) brand seems to be alive and well and audiences are psyched for Suicide Squad" when it arrives in theaters Aug. 5.

Disney's animated hit Zootopia was third with $14.4 million ($296 million total) — and only dropped 26% from last weekend — while the romantic-comedy sequel My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 came in fourth place with $6.4 million ($46.8 million total).

Rounding out the top five: Hardcore Henry, which made its debut with $5.1 million. Russian director Ilya Naishuller's first-person action film weathered mixed reviews (51% approval at Rotten Tomatoes) and was met with a C-plus from moviegoers on CinemaScore.

Henry was "a technical tour de force" aimed at wrangling the elusive young male gamer audience into the theater and wasn't made for more mainstream moviegoers, Dergarabedian figures.

"Sometimes one movie has to be the trailblazer and get out there and present their case," he says. "It’s an interesting experiment. I like studios that take risks and put something different out there."

Man something tells me that Batman V. Superman could drop to 4th next week.

‘Batman V Superman’ Adds $34M; ‘Jungle Book’ Swings Big With $28.9M; ‘Huntsman’ At $20M – Intl Box Office Update

UPDATE, …: International estimates are rolling in fast for the weekend which saw the new release of Universal’s The Huntsman: Winter’s War with $20M in 18 markets including the UK, Australia, Italy, Spain, and Mexico. The result is lower than yesterday’s projected $21.3M and also below Disney’s The Jungle Book which swung into 15 early plays where it doubled the opening of last year’s live-action Cinderella in the same suite of markets, taking an estimated $28.9M. Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, in its 3rd frame, is still champ with an estimated $34M in 67 markets. That’s a 60% drop from last session (which itself was a 66% dip from the debut session over Easter weekend). The international cume for the superheroes is $486.8M.

There’s yet more good news for Disney’s Zootopia with the animated charmer adding $22.7M in the frame to take the offshore cume to $556.5M and the global total to $852.5M. With $232.2M in China, the movie is now Disney’s biggest title ever at the Middle Kingdom box office, surpassing Avengers: Age Of Ultron in local currency.

NEW
THE JUNGLE BOOK
Welcome to The Jungle. With a $28.9M weekend in 15 Asian and Latin American markets, Disney’s live-action/CGI Jon Favreau-helmed family adventure made a strong swing in its first plays. The move to go a week before the U.S., China and other majors was to get some space before the studio’s own Captain America: Civil War goes out in early May as well as accessing school holidays and avoiding local competitors. The major markets to release were Russia and Australia. In the latter, there are staggered holidays so TJB opened only in 50% of the market before expanding over the whole territory next weekend. There were No. 1s in all Jungle Book debuts. The movie is currently 100% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, and word of mouth is expected to propel this update on Disney’s 1967 animated pic (based on the Rudyard Kipling classics) to big Kaa-chings.

In the same suite of markets, The Jungle Book (the “The” being an important differentiator from Warner’s 2018 pic which is just Jungle Book) opened 99% ahead of Cinderella last year and is 32% ahead of Maleficent at today’s exchange rates. India was the stand-out with $7.6M — the 2nd highest ever industry opening ever for a Western release, behind only Furious 7. That outperformed the entire lifetime of Cinderella, Maleficent and Oz: The Great And Powerful.

With $6.2M in Russia, The Jungle Book’s start is 153% ahead of Cinderella. In Australia, TJB has an estimated gross of $2.6M. The debut is 64% ahead of Cinderella based on opening in 50% of the market. Argentina got off to a $2.2M launch; 102% ahead of Cinderella. All Latin American markets combined grossed $6.6M. The $2.1M start in Malaysia was the biggest Disney live-action bow of all time.

The Jungle Book opens in the key markets of China, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the UK, Brazil and Mexico, as well as North America, next frame. Korea then opens on June 2 and Japan on August 11.

THE HUNTSMAN: WINTER’S WAR
With $20M in 18 early markets this weekend, the sequel to 2012’s Snow White And The Huntsman came in softer than projected at 3,887 dates. Opening this frame put the origins story out in time to capitalize on school holidays and to plant it between Batman V Superman the start of Captain America: Civil War. Comps to the opening of the last film are not apples-to-apples as the rollout is different. SWATH was initially released in 45 territories day-and-date with the U.S. and grossed $39.3M offshore. That film starred Kristen Stewart who is not back for part II. Reprising their roles here are Charlize Theron and Sam Claflin with Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain joining the proceedings. Key talent was on the road in Europe and Asia over the past few weeks including China where the movie goes out on April 22. Cedric Nicolas-Troyan takes over the director’s chair from Rupert Sanders.

There were No. 1 starts in the UK, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam and Mexico. The UK was the top opener with $4.4M including previews. SWATH started in the UK with $5.5M in 2012 before the big currency fluctuations took hold. Mexico opened No. 1 with $3M at 717 dates, which is 81% of SWATH. Thailand was the next best play at No. 2 with $1.2M at 63 dates, which is 41% bigger than SWATH. Hong Kong was good for $620K and No. 1, on par with SWATH.

The film has 47 territories, including China, Japan, Korea, France, Russia and Brazil, to open over the next two months. The original topped out at about $240M overseas or around $190M in today’s dollars.

That said, crowds like McCarthy's "style and her tell-it-like-it-is sensibilities. It really seems to work for her," says Dergarabedian.

no they don't they like a fat woman making fun of herself and doing lots of slapstick comedy. and that's all good.
I saw the commercial on tv and it said best female comedian of all time or some shit and i cut the tv off.

Yeah... she just has her crowd. Which likely means that Ugg... Ghostbusters is probably going to get 50 to 60 million opening weekend leading to the inevitable sequel.

The R-Rated Batman V Superman Cut May Be Coming To Theaters

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/R-Rated-Batman-V-Superman-Cut-May-Coming-Theaters-123667.html

At 151 minutes, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is one of the longest superhero movies ever. Giving moviegoers a main story and plenty of Easter Eggs, the movie essentially paved the way for the expansive DC Extended Universefollowing 2013’s Man of Steel, but there was still a fair amount that didn’t make it into the theatrical release. Some of that material is being saved for the R-rated “Ultimate Edition” home media release, but now there’s word that this three-hour cut might makes its way to the big screen first.

On the latest episode of Heroic Insider, co-host Umberto Gonzalez brought up the rumor that Warner Bros is considering releasing Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s “Ultimate Edition” in theaters before it comes out on Blu-ray, digitally, etc. While it’s unclear how many people would see that in theaters, it definitely would add a little extra green to the movie’s haul. The “Ultimate Edition” was originally reported to be released on July 16, but that date was later debunked by Warner Bros. That said, given the common intervals nowadays between when a movie is released in theaters and when it’s released on home media, we can reasonably guess that fans will be able to own Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice sometime in July or August, maybe September at the latest.

As of this writing, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has earned over $723 million worldwide, but it’s struggling to reach the $1 billion mark. While it’s doubtful the “Ultimate Edition” would push the blockbuster past that mark, considering how many passionate supporters his movie has, you can bet a sizable chunk of them would give that version a watch in theaters, whether it’s to see more action or to fill some gaps that the original left open. However, considering the many negative reviews the current Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice cut has received over the last two weeks, Warner Bros might have trouble getting regular moviegoers to see it, especially with a three-hour runtime.

The main reason for the “Ultimate Edition” being rated R is mainly for more intense and violent sequences. However, it will also include some people who were cut from the story, including Jena Malone’s character, who is said to be Barbara Gordon. Some of the criticisms that have been directed towards Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice have been plot hole-related, so perhaps this new version will answer any lingering questions viewers have, whether they see in theaters first or in the comfort of their own home.

Whether it’s released on the big screen first or directly on him media, you’ll have to wait until later this year to watch Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s “Ultimate Edition,” but the main cut is currently playing in theaters.
I'll actually go and see that.

so they put out the remix to get that extra BO comicbook geek money...and cats WILL go for it..that shit is like some shit the joker would do..

well played WB well played..:giggle:

The crazy part is that Zootopia has some fucking legs. That shit is going to likely get a Billion. We know that Captain America and Star Wars are getting Billions a piece. This isn't even counting Finding Dory and the Jungle Book. Disney could end up with 4 or 5 Billion dollar movies in a signal year. That's fucking crazy.

Man I don't want to fucking admit it, but you are right. I guess I just need kneel on the sword and deal with the fact that this bullshit is going to likely become a franchise with these chicks. Ughhhh

It's Ok if it does lol. We don't have to go see it. I saw the trailer and it was Meh to me. I had no opinion on it either way.

oh that's gonna get that off of woman principles alone.

not women's principles.....WHITE women's principles..

I'm a take issue here because I don't see anyone saying how she makes white women or white people look..or all white women are stupid for supporting her.

If that was Monique garnering that kind of money and attention (and it SHOULD have been considering she actually WON an oscar not just nominated like melissa) cats here would be losing their minds about how bad she makes us ALL look and how black woman are stupid for supporting her bullshit movies. and :pain::pain::pain:(yeah I had to post three cuz thats how some of yall come off on this type of subject) or its some kind of conspiracy to destroy the black community. The reaction to melissa mccarthy is :dunno: she's doing her thing...meh.

White people can just make movies no matter how insipid and inane
Black people must make statements and be the group standard bearer every time coming out of the gate.

Nah, I'd actually be really happy for Monique if she got the credit she deserved. She's way better than McCarthy in every way, light years to me. I'm happy for Leslie Jones. She been in the game forever with no traction at all and it was pretty much based on her looks. She got the SNL gig and is now in this so I'm happy for her.

I saw it last week and really enjoyed it. I don't have the gripes with it that all the critics and folks take issue with, and this is coming from someone who's been HEAVY into comic books for 23 years. There were no huge plotholes that i wouldnt allow me to enjoy the film. I thought they included the other heroes in non-invasive ways and really gave us enjoyable characters for Batman and Superman.

I hated Lex tho. Doomsday was way overpowered. I still can't stand the level of destruction seen in MoS and this, just overkill to the point that it becomes meaningless. Sure they dealt with the MoS destruction levels in this film, but then u go right ahead and destroy entire neighborhoods with doomsday's stupid projectile powers

I never saw it that way...still don't like how the other sister has been brushed aside since.

Maybe this was discussed earlier in the thread, but why was the damaged space craft allowed to remain in the city like that? Wouldn't have superman disposed of it(particularly since it was still partially functional) and zods body?

I think he let the military handle all of that as a show of good faith.
He doesn't always have the best judgement.

There really wasn't an explanation on this. I just accepting it for what it was. Even though it didn't make lick of Gawd damn sense.

i guess it is what it is. Just struck me as odd.

I figured they'd have it where the ship and Zod were locked down in some top secret bunker somewhere. It's just a bunch of little shit like this that bug me.

Yea i understand that but I took it as them being in complete control of the situation and just keeping it under lock for the time being until they can do whatever they were gonna do with it. only been 18 months. We didn't have all the wreckage cleared after 9/11 in 18 months.
and again this is because superman let them handle it fully without his interference.

it also explains why the monument was up as well because he clearly hated the attention but in the interest of letting them be he let them do it.

which is a driving theme in the movie imo. how much he lets us. and how nobody realizes this but batman.

I think that is everyone's overall problem with the movie and I guess it just depends on who you are....

If you like to go to a movie and shut your brain down on the details and just watch a movie... then you probably will like it.

If you are the type that needs the details and is a sucker for logic.... then you will probably hate the movie, because you won't be able to move pass the little shit. That was my issue. I just couldn't get pass shit and the second time I watched it.. I found even more shit.

and lex... both of them had the same issues with superman and it would have been an interesting turn to see a hero and villain with some common ground and interest but they botched executing it.

exactly. that's been my entire point with almost every post.
the foundation was there. the foundation was enough to make it a classic movie.
they botched a couple of things and it became ok- pretty cool.

lex wasn't a villain to batman in this movie until the very end. he was just a rich mart dude with some tech he needed and stole from him.

i came in thinking that he would befriend batman and get him to do his bidding and then there would be a pivot where they realize who put them against each other and they go get lex. that's what i thought it would be when this movie was first announced.

I forgot to comment on this shit

First of all it should have been 30 minutes shorter. The slow motion was killing me. It was so fuckin pointless.

Then they threw together like three stories in one.

The dislike Batman had of Superman was stupid. And it went away because of his moms name?

It was stoopid and went against the ending of MOS

At the end of MOS we see superman wresting satellites from space tasked with following him, but he doesn't get rid of the very ships that nearly destroyed his adoptive planet?!?

GTFOH!!!

doomsday was on an island.
Yes he was, until Batman thought it was a good idea to lure Doomsday away from the uninhabited island back to Gotham where the Kryptonite spear was, instead of him going to get the spear in Gotham and bringing it back to the uninhabited island.:rolleyes2:

But it was all good, because it was a warehouse district where no one was working at the time:rolleyes2:

nobody was working there ever considering all the traps and shit that batman laid and the condition of the building before the fight even began lol that shit looked like Detroit.
