BGOL review .. BATMAN V SUPERMAN... (thoughts, summary, spoilers)

Thy only way these movies get better is that DC separate themselves from WB control wise.

The fact that a WB executive is the head of the DC entertainment says a lot.

They need to take the example of Lucas Flims and Marvel.
Disney and stuidos act as partners and allows them the creative room to operate with minimal interface.

basically
you need a comic head running the comic division
but greed and ego is why they are where they are

Yea man.... Batman in a trench coat wearing sand goggles.. Whats better than that? :itsawrap:

If he didn't have his mask on I thought the cac was Bane for a sec. Then I saw the camo bat suit?
Don't front. When he grabbed the tech and started spraying and then snapping necks he ain't do his thang in that sequence?

just shoot the entire movie like that. hazy as fuck and dirty no clean shots.

I can't say it rang false. In BvS, he had no idea what Lex was up to. In MOS, he knew Zod and his crew were looking for the codex, so it only made sense they would go to his mother's house.

And ripping off TDK is probably what is hurting Superman as a character, MOS, and the whole Justice League set up. That franchise was so successful and impactful that the suits thought it was what the audience wanted from all of the DC films. Keep in mind that Christopher Nolan was a producer of MOS and BvS. I personally like the darker tone, heavier themes, and the more conflicted Superman but it's readily obvious that audiences and critics in general aren't as enthused about them.
but it also falls inline with the "focus on my voice" line. He wasn't in love with lois yet in that movie and the only person important to him to that degree would be his mother...also just like lois in africa or on the roof top he didn't show up until the threat of death was imminent and he was a ways away because we hear the sonic boom just before he appears.

He never said he was a hero. It ain't HIS FAULT you want him to save you. That's how I always felt and looked at it and Im glad its being shown this way.
A guy who grew up a guy isn't going to be infinitely GREAT every step of the way. He's not going to say oh this is bigger than me im just going to do right 24/7 and dedicate my life to saving the entire world every day.
Im way more interested in conflict than a simple ass resolution of him listening to michael jackson working day and night during a 2 hour montage of him stopping everything at all times. I'd walk out of that.
I like when he's at a party trying to do something and he sees the kid in the building and the reporters are like is he just going to let that little girl die? and he's like damn i was about to do something but FUCK OK.
and he goes there and saves the little girl look at his face. he's tired of this shit lol. Look at him. I enjoyed that the most. He's always hovering and doing his thing and it's really getting old. It's not exciting to him and him being a man in upbringing is the most important point and charm of him imo. he's super MAN not super god. He's not detached like a Dr. Manhattan was in watchmen, ready to just be out and go fuck with mars or walk on the sun and shit.... He wants a LIFE that he can't really have. he seeks counsel from his mom who says be a hero or don't you don't owe them nothing the conflict inside of him and the weight that it carries is captured and i love that. love it.

Look at his face in public. He's always looking stoic and annoyed at having to do this shit and i feel him! lol.
Look at when he showed up at the hearing. Bored with the shit already. He looked like he had to go to Jury Duty. He moved the little puny door and moved into the front area which was funny as fuck. It's superman walking down the hall of the building lol walking into the room. Standing there annoyed as fuck.
He looked at the senator's face. Looked at the chair probably sensed that it was a bomb and probably could have gotten him out of there in the nick of time and had the explosion over the building but.. he just looked like..meh I'll be alright lol.

I love him struggling to care.

...and then they killed Clark Kent.

...and then they killed Clark Kent.

Yea just idiocy.
So now when he comes back he's going to be a hero full time? The charm was he's trying to be a regular dude and this super hero shit is annoying. I feel annoyed having to do stuff too that's the only way I could relate to superman lol i can't do anything else he can do other than be annoyed with some responsibilities that i have to do even though i don't really feel like it.

WARNER BROS. PROJECTED TO EARN LESS FROM BATMAN V SUPERMAN THAN IT DID FROM MAN OF STEEL
1200x-1.jpg

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” is poised to conquer the box office for the third straight weekend. But beneath the cape, tights and superhero armor lies a mere mortal.
“Batman v Superman,” one of the most expensive films ever made, is on pace to produce a $278 million profit for Warner Bros. once home video, TV and merchandise proceeds are tallied, according to SNL Kagan analyst Wade Holden.
That’s less than the estimated $300 million the studio earned from “Man Of Steel.” It’s also evidence that Warner Bros. has more work to do to make its DC Comics division the unbreakable superhero movie business it needs.
“I’m sure that it’s a bit of a disappointment,” Holden said. “They were probably hoping for box-office numbers similar to ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ since ‘Batman v Superman’ had DC’s three most well-known comic book heroes together in the same movie” -- Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman.
DC characters are a cornerstone of Warner Bros.’ film slate through 2020, along with Lego features and a new wizard series from “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling. The studio, part of Time Warner Inc., is banking on “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” to serve as a launching pad for 11 more films and help win over fans who have flocked to Walt Disney Co.’s Marvel films.
To be sure, “Batman v Superman” set a record for a DC Comics movie and marked the studio’s second biggest debut ever, after “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2,” according to Box Office Mojo. It also topped the previous record for a March weekend debut in North America, set by the “The Hunger Games” in 2012, a possible reflection of pent-up demand among hardcore fans of DC Comics.

Studio Pleased
Warner Bros. executives say they’re pleased with the performance of the film and wouldn’t have announced two more DC pictures this week if they weren’t. The movie is poised to become one of just 50 or so to cross $300 million at the domestic box office. Their boss, Time Warner Chief Executive Officer Jeff Bewkes, has said 2016 will be a turnaround year for the studio’s film division.
To be as profitable as the lower-budget “Man of Steel” -- and some of the more successful Marvel films, which generate 44 percent net profit on average -- “Batman v Superman” would have to gross $1.15 billion worldwide, Holden estimates. “Age of Ultron” earned $853 million, he estimates.
Last weekend, “Batman v Superman” brought in $51.3 million at the U.S. box office, helped by a lack of competition. The 69 percent drop from its opening was steeper than the average 60 percent decline for past superhero films such as “Iron Man 3,” according to Geetha Ranganathan, a Bloomberg Intelligence analyst. Unlike summer superhero pictures, “Batman v Superman” had to contend with kids back at school in its second week.

Third Weekend
Heading into its third weekend, the film is projected to slide further than “Man of Steel,” which declined 50 percent, according to analysts at BoxOffice.com. The website predicts $24 million in U.S. ticket sales, which would bring its domestic total to $297.2 million.
A much bigger third weekend is unlikely for a film that received just 29 percent favorable reviews on Rottentomatoes.com, which aggregates critics’ comments into a single number. In contrast, 83 percent liked 20th Century Fox’s recent superhero hit “Deadpool.” The drop may also suggest “Batman v Superman” hasn’t resonated with a wider audience.

‘Satisfied, Not Elated’
“They have to be pretty satisfied; they probably aren’t elated,” said Matthew Harrigan, an analyst at Wunderlich Securities who recommends Time Warner stock. He forecasts the movie will finish its worldwide theatrical run with sales of less than $1 billion.
Though Harrigan estimates profit for “Batman v Superman” could be even lower than Holden’s forecasts, he expects Warner Bros. to earn $550 million from its movie-making business this year. The studio, which doesn’t break out its film and TV operations, made about $320 million in profit from motion pictures in 2015, he said.
One significant contributor this year could be “Suicide Squad,” another DC movie scheduled for this summer. Critics are also talking up the potential for Wonder Woman in 2017 after Gal Gadot turned heads with her debut in the role during “Batman v Superman.”
“The winner, on points, is Wonder Woman,” wrote New Yorker critic Anthony Lane. “She has the wit, and the wherewithal, to confront evil while wearing a conical bustier.”

I'm still trying to understand where did the fucking money go for this movie.... You have a film with Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman in it. How much marketing do you really need?

Damn.... Warner Brothers is in Full freefall mode... Man I don't think this movie is going to get a Billion. Hell it might not get $950.

BOX OFFICE: BATMAN V SUPERMAN Estimated To Retain #1 Spot This Weekend
137233.jpg

Numerous industry analysts predict that WB's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justicewill just barely edge out Melissa McCarthy'sThe Boss to retain the #1 spot at the domestic box office this weekend.

According to industry analysts like Boxofficemojo.com, boxoffice.com and The Hollywood Reporter, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is expected to remain the #1 North American movie this weekend. Earlier this week, there were rumblings that Melissa McCarthy's The Boss might prematurely dethrone WB' s superhero drama but unfavorable reviews from film critics appear to have diminished the comedy's box office outlook.

Dawn of Justice is expected to bring in $22-28 million domestically, while The Boss is expected to gross roughly $20 million. On the international front, Dawn of Justice is expected to collect somewhere in the neighborhood of $35 million. With Zack Snyder's second DCEU film currently sitting at $720.8 million worldwid, unless the film exceeds estimates, it's unlikely that Batman v Superman passes the $800 million mark this weekend. However, it should clear that benchmark by the middle of next week. The question then becomes how long will it take the film to reach $900 million and whether it has a shot to reach $1 billion?

RUMOR: WB To Release Extended R-Rated Version Of BATMAN V SUPERMAN In Theaters To Boost Box Office Total
137268.jpg

A new rumor asserts that Warner Bros. is currently deciding whether to release the 3-Hr Ultimate Edition of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in theaters in an effort to get the film's gross to $1 billion.

It currently looks as if Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will fall a little short of the $1 billion box office mark. However, a new rumor from Heroic Insider states that Warner Bros. is currently mulling whether to release the 3-hr director's cut in theaters, just before theUltimate Edition is made available on home video. This move would pretty much guarantee that Batman v Superman crosses the $1 billion mark at the global box office as the same number of rabid fans who lined up to see DC Comics' Trinity grace the screen together for the first time are likely to let curiosity get the better of them and purchase tickets for the 3-hr director's cut.

From what we've seen of deleted scenes and heard from Zack Snyder in post-release interviews, the extended cut definitely pieces together some of the plot holes in the theatrical cut.

The R-Rated Batman V Superman Cut May Be Coming To Theaters

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/R-Rated-Batman-V-Superman-Cut-May-Coming-Theaters-123667.html

At 151 minutes, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is one of the longest superhero movies ever. Giving moviegoers a main story and plenty of Easter Eggs, the movie essentially paved the way for the expansive DC Extended Universefollowing 2013’s Man of Steel, but there was still a fair amount that didn’t make it into the theatrical release. Some of that material is being saved for the R-rated “Ultimate Edition” home media release, but now there’s word that this three-hour cut might makes its way to the big screen first.

On the latest episode of Heroic Insider, co-host Umberto Gonzalez brought up the rumor that Warner Bros is considering releasing Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s “Ultimate Edition” in theaters before it comes out on Blu-ray, digitally, etc. While it’s unclear how many people would see that in theaters, it definitely would add a little extra green to the movie’s haul. The “Ultimate Edition” was originally reported to be released on July 16, but that date was later debunked by Warner Bros. That said, given the common intervals nowadays between when a movie is released in theaters and when it’s released on home media, we can reasonably guess that fans will be able to own Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice sometime in July or August, maybe September at the latest.

As of this writing, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has earned over $723 million worldwide, but it’s struggling to reach the $1 billion mark. While it’s doubtful the “Ultimate Edition” would push the blockbuster past that mark, considering how many passionate supporters his movie has, you can bet a sizable chunk of them would give that version a watch in theaters, whether it’s to see more action or to fill some gaps that the original left open. However, considering the many negative reviews the current Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice cut has received over the last two weeks, Warner Bros might have trouble getting regular moviegoers to see it, especially with a three-hour runtime.

The main reason for the “Ultimate Edition” being rated R is mainly for more intense and violent sequences. However, it will also include some people who were cut from the story, including Jena Malone’s character, who is said to be Barbara Gordon. Some of the criticisms that have been directed towards Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice have been plot hole-related, so perhaps this new version will answer any lingering questions viewers have, whether they see in theaters first or in the comfort of their own home.

Whether it’s released on the big screen first or directly on him media, you’ll have to wait until later this year to watch Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s “Ultimate Edition,” but the main cut is currently playing in theaters.

What's the point of releasing a 3hr movie if the 2.5hr movie was so shitty? Are those 30 extra minutes going to change people's minds over the film? If not, is the additional revenue worth a new stream of negative reviews? WB needs to cut their loses and keep it moving. Go back to the lab and hire Nolan as a consultant to babysit Synder.

damn I just checked box office mojo. That is correct. Holy fucking shit. This shit barely made over 6 million Friday on its 3rd weekend. Wow... This shit might make less then 22 million in its 3rd weekend.

that is just...

WOW.

I have a question..

Is this because of the CRITICS?

(because if YES then we have to completely reassess their power and influence in the current movie climate)

and/or is it SOCIAL MEDIA?

(because if YES, then damn if a studio can properly market (or manipulate) social media they could BREAK the BANK on the regular basis.)

becuase so far?

Captain america Civil War is trending better then a muthafuka!!!!

If the core fans are turned off... you lose repeat views.... and initial word of mouth

If it's fun you can overcome that

This movie shitted on core fans and wasn't fun

This is pure word of mouth. It would not have had a stellar opening weekend if people just listened to the critics. This shit would have been a colossal bomb if they didn't have a simultaneous world wide release. I don't think it would have made 450 million.....

wow...

so word of mouth STILL holds a lot of weight

WAY more then critics...then basically they critic is dead?

so social media can KILL or MAKE a movie...

Deadpool wasn't a fluke.

Loyal fanbase and GREAT word of mouth AND a good product

So will the EARLY reviews of Civil War help IT do even better box office?

Will the so-called FAILURE of BvS somehow HELP Civil War?

Wil the FAILURE of BvS put MORE pressure on Suicide Squad?

yes
no
no

but
imo Deadpool's strength is going to cause Apocalypse to under perform...

ok , you gonna have to further explain that.
Everything Deadpool got right and poked fun at is what Singer keeps getting wrong...

How many superhero landings will be in Apocalypse - and will now be funny because Deadpool is still a fresh memory?
How many half ass action sequences will now pale in comparison?
How many bs retconns now proven stupid by Deadpool being faithful to character and myth?

I'll actually go and see that.

wow...

Wil the FAILURE of BvS put MORE pressure on Suicide Squad?

It probably will to some extent, but I'm sure WB/DC have a much more lenient goal for this than BvS.

But BvS has already cast a shadow over Suicide Squad. Last week it was reported that Suicide Squad was undergoing millions of dollars of reshoot to make the movie "funnier" due to the panning of BvS and the reaction to the second Suicide Squad trailer that was released. It turned out to be a rumor. It is undergoing some reshooting, but for additions to the action scenes

Looks like one area Suicide Squad might benefit from BvS is that it seems like WB/DC kept it a good secret how much Batman is in the film. It's being reported now Batman has a larger part than expected. This is good due to Batman/Affleck mostly positive reaction in BvS.

Suicide Squad May Include More Batman Than Expected

With Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice now in theaters, we have a firmer grasp on what to expect from the DC Extended Universe. And next on the DCEU’s docket is this summer’s Suicide Squad – a film which sees cagey government agent, Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) assemble a task force comprised of ‘the worst of the worst‘ for a mission that’s downright suicidal.

Suicide Squad marks the first big screen appearance for many of these ne’er do-wells, including Deadshot, Killer Croc, Captain Boomerang, and Harley Quinn, further establishing the villainous side of the DCEU. The film will also introduce their version of The Joker (as played by Jared Leto) and – as we’ve seen in set videos and the trailers – he and Harley will tangle with Ben Affleck’s Batman during some point in the movie. It’s still unclear whether the scene in question occurs as a flashback (possibly as part of Harley Quinn’s origin) or during the events of the film, but we’ve known Batman would have a role to play in Suicide Squad for some time. Though, as it turns out, Batman’s role may be bigger than we initially thought.

During his latest insider video for Heroic Hollywood, Umberto Gonzalez shares that Warner Bros. has held test screenings for Suicide Squad, and according to his sources, “there is a lot more Batman in the movie than they are letting on.” And though for the time being this rumor is nothing more than mere speculation, it wouldn’t be all that surprising to learn Batman’s role in Suicide Squad is substantial. When the film was shooting in Vancouver last summer there were already rumors Batman and Waller share a key scene, one in where Batman either warns Waller of The Joker or perhaps advises her against creating Task Force X – the Suicide Squad.

But extra scenes with Waller may not be all there is, as Gonzales and co-host Daniel Alter go on to suggest that sinceSuicide Squad‘s roster includes typical Batman rogues (Joker, Harley, Croc) and a few of his part-time allies (Deadshot, Katana), he may be quite prevalent throughout the film. And even if that doesn’t necessarily translate to more screen time for Affleck, it could mean that Batman’s presence hangs over the movie – a constant reminder that should Task Force X step too far out of line, he’s there to reign them in.

The next Suicide Squad trailer is expected to drop soon and like its previous trailer, which was accompanied by Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”, this new trailer is also reportedly cut to another upbeat, energizing tune – Sweet’s “Ballroom Blitz”. And again, though only rumor, Alter did correctly predict they’d use “Bohemian Rhapsody” for their last trailer and “Ballroom Blitz” is very much in the same vein.
