parts of your statement just repeat what I said already...yes supervillains were created for better battles, yes comicbook stories require a higher suspension of disbelief that the usual work of fiction and yes people have other issues with the story which is why theres much grumbling.
Your explanation for why he missed his mother sounds reasonable if you never saw the first movie or don't know supermans history. In MOS we see a young clark overwhelmed by his senses and the world around him he learned how to control his abilities by focusing on his mother's voice.
Clark: The world's too big mom.
Martha: Then make it small. Focus on my voice...
One could assume that when he watched his father die he didn't just see it he heard the elevated heartbeat and grasps of pain as the tornado ripped his father apart. the ONLY reason Pa died is because he stopped Clark from saving him. You think he would let that happen again? Ma and Pa Kent were Clarks ONLY touchstones to his humanity long before Lois showed up so its reasonable to assume he would be acutely sensitive to his only surviving parent.
If youre a fan of this treatment of super then you buy into this so (to me) it seems a very large stretch that superman would lose focus of the first person who taught him how to do it. And its more a convenience for the story than an organic flow of how the story flows. People buy into suspension of disbelief up to a certain point even in comic book stories. The myth says that superman can hear clouds scrape each other in the sky. he hear lois's indiscriminate banging under water over the cacophony of the sounds of battle with DD.
I believe a man can fly
I believe kryptonite makes him weak
I don't believe he wouldn't recognize the sounds of his mother in distress.
I am not a fan of man of Steel but I have watched it about 10 times - with family members who like it but the scene that gets to me is the one where his father dies. Clark could have saved him, he could move so fast that is is literally unseen and trust me in the chaos of a tornado - people are not interested in where did Clark go at that moment - most would assume he got swept away also.
Fuck I am not going to use everything in my power to stop my father's death.
Yeah films are inconsistent on powers and ability - Lois should have died when Lex pushed her from the building but Superman swept in from somewhere to her her screaming -
Then if his mother is kidnapped - he should have disabled that helicopter and said fuck it and looked for his mother - his speed is extraordinary and Lex hide her in Gotham City not in Beirut - he could have found her and if not Lex would pay - Zod Style (wait this is BGOL - No Hom0). He wased so much time fucking with Batman instead of using his powers more effectively.
