BGOL Finance: how much monthly income does it take to live comfortably in your area?

Gotta recognize. Are we talking white people or black people comfortable? I'm thinking of Wall Street. I'm thinking of $10k/month apartments for 1-2 bedrooms. I'm thinking of broadway and sports season tix on the floor of the garden and/or Barclays. Of vacationing in the Hamptons, vineyard, or nj shore. Thinking of going to Europe or Asia twice annually. Super bowl and NCAA, fight weekends, etc.

I'm not there but I know these people. One of my partners was trying to get me to join a jet sharing program. $5000 per hour. I don't fly that often (maybe 4-6 times per year) but I dont need a private jet. He makes at least $2M (I've seen his taxes).

So $600k really isn't doing that much in NYC.
that life aint for everybody. i wouldn't enjoy half the stuff you said. Don't like to do what everyone else does, look at me lifestyle. My trips would be more nature oriented and cultured. I also wouldn't want to live like a rat amongst other rats inside some crowded urban fest with bums pissing on each corner. Probably buy a place in Conn. But that lifestyle does afford your luxury of doing the things you want.
Life is what you make it. Good health, family, and friends and good nature, and I'm good. Don't need the glitz and glamour to have a fulfilling life (I admit I wanted this more when I was 15 watching rap videos) and this is coming from someone that makes more than most.

dope..

Hows the area tho?

schools?

shopping?

crime??
Area is fine. I have never experienced any crime in 13 years. As for schools, I personally don't care because my girl is in private school.
Shopping, we work a lot and have cars to go shopping anywhere we want on the weekend. My house is very beautiful inside and it has everything that we need during the week and we drive out on the weekends. Life in the U.S. is not rocket science. I'm in a position to afford any house that I want but I love my current place.

We've been looking for land to build a custom home for 3 years and can't seem to find a suitable place. i just made an offer on a .4 acre lot in Vinings but I'm second guessing it now. I think I can get a lake side lot for the same price in Peachtree city.

duluth......

LOL @ 600k ain't much. Nigga please. 50k a month is more than enough to be balling in NYC.
Niggas stay jackin on this board. I told somebody here once that I make around 55k a year, and dude told me to get my weight up and he felt sorry for me. Like I was broke. And I live in fucking Milwaukee :hmm:

My baby mama just made around 550 K past year. And she's like a millionaire to these bums here. She paid like six people's rent around Christmas because they were leaking. But it all depends where you live. Here, 3000 a month and you straight than a motherfucka. If you make over 50k a year and you're single, you're living nice in Milwaukee. Not saying that's big ballin here. But it definitely ain't broke living.

4500 a month is very good just about everywhere

she said owning a nice car and house is easy out there, its keeping it thats the hard part for many... because so many folks out there tryin to live above their means.. glad to know you aint one of them...

I love to see my people doing well.. PROPS!!

Exactly. Now Ive heard about crazy cost of living in certain parts of California and New York. But come on man, niggas need to be more honest on this board. Or if they really are getting good money like that, because I don't doubt that there are many people on here making six figures or better, at least understand that everybody here aint.

shit depending where you stay and if u kno loopholes u can have fun with 55k in your late teens early 20's here in ny if ur single... lol hell u throw that to a bunch of 25 and under nigs some of them wouldn't kno how to act lol..confident booster overload

I don't know bout that... the last house I out up in the west got into a bidding war! A fuckin bidding war for a rental!

Ended up at $5400 a month 4bdrm 3 bath 2450sqft...

I asked 4750 lol....

Damn....how long ago is that? I have a rental in the West but my tenants have been there for years and paying way undermarket rents.

Good shit. Keep it man. Even though the value in selling it is there and its tempting to cash out, West Oakland is just scratching the surface of what it will be. I'm always happy to see another brutha owning and renting out a spot out there because we are dwindling. Have you seen the West Oakland Specific Plan?

That depends. What does it mean to be comfortable?

There are plenty of places where it's relatively easy to get and sustain a house and car, but few in their right mind would ever want to live there.

Western,NY,you could live ok on 25-35k a year
It's the jobs is where shit might go bad.

I got a homie who moved out to LA where he was making 600 a week, living in a room with a bathroom mini frig and a microwave for 1700 a month in a bad area and he had to take public transpertation. He's happy to be back in Newyork

Cali didn't want that nigga. They gave him his walking papers. Eviction noticed his ass! Hahahahaha!!!

Comfortable in Seattle? Single/no kids - about 5k a month
Family standard 2.3 kids/wife = 8-9k a month
Buying a house? FOH! 17k or so combined incomes. Sea-town ain't cheap on rent or houses. A shack will hit you for 500k+

Now living WELL is a different set of numbers but about 100-120k a year would have you living WELL.

What is the daily life like for you working class SF folks? How much time do you spend away from home a week working or how much the average citizen work per week?

Making all that money, do you feel like you have time to enjoy it? I'm curious because I'm a country boy and life is real slow paced for me.

I want to make more like you city folk do, but I do value my time living slow paced and country. I do 40 to 45 hrs a week working and about 40 minutes total traveling to and from work.

I live in SF. work around 40 hours a week. I pay $810 a month for a 100 sqft room all in. I don't have a car and pay about $150 a month for Muni, Bart bikeshare and Lyft. My commute takes about 15- 20 minutes each way.

Most of the things you would normally do at home get done in public. For instance, instead of inviting friends over I'll meet them at a bar or restaurant. I have trouble getting access to the kitchen because of roommates so I eat my breakfast at Subway. No garage so I fix my bike at a community garage (I'm a courier) and store it in an underground public locker. Home is just a place to eat, sleep, fuck, watch TV and practice DJing (my other job).

Plenty of folks fuck in a 100 sqft room...in jail. :smh:

Enon rd and Cam Creek rd area. To put things in perspective for you. This is what you get on Enon rd for $800k

Phenomenal! No bullshit, in nj the property taxes on that house could be no less than $7500/month. Easy. For that amount of land and a deck probably closer to $10k. Just for taxes... $30k per quarter. No mortgage, maintenance, or utilities. Property Taxes. Add those things in with a mortgage and you're talking about $20k for housing. If you make $50k, how are you balling? Cars are running you another $3-5k per month. Clothes, entertainment, clients, trying to get new clients $10k? Personal taxes...$15k/month or 30%. Where are the savings?

a very slept on comment..when you're young or you tend to be a person who tends to run around a lot that is exactly how you use your crib..so that's why some don't care about big houses and shit like that

That actually make sense if you're young and single. I'd probably be living a similar way.

But I started my family at 24, so I was looking for space and flexibility with my life style choices.

I did the whole boarding house thing for a year. Hell, my room was a trap spot at one point because the location was in a perfect hood spot between my university and the highway.

But city life is different. I guess I can't get past the cost of living and being around so many people.

But I do miss a lot of culture exposure and opportunities for networking.

But $810 a month can get you a 3 bed and 2 bath 1200 to 1300 sq ft home with lot space in Greensboro, NC.

We just aren't as fun as SF and NY, lol.

Yep... I bought 2 houses there 1 in 04 one in 12

Both are worth either right at a million or right below.

It's insane. 2 houses on the block sold for a million last year.

You bought at good times. I bought mine in 2011 and according to Zillow it is worth just under 6 times what I bought it for. Its crazy because there really haven't been any improvements to the infrastructure or much development there yet. There is a whole lot of stuff that can happen that will add value to the area like reducing the dumping, reducing the homelessness, more businesses in the area, upgrading the Bart, fixing the streets, and curbing the crime. Don't laugh, but I see West Oakland getting similar rents to what Adams Point is getting.

Refi... take out 100k... buy another joint in Hayward or something... sit on it repeat in 3 years.

I started when Obama saved the housing industry I'm up to a couple a few homes now... those are my retirement plan.

Like I said in another post I'm a millionaire ON PAPER, not so much in liquid but I'm setting uo.a big play. Where my kids won't have to worry for anything

Bgol got the richest niggas on the planet.

Niggas drop 4K a month on just rent.

that's not rich though...

3000k rent on a nice size house in duluth
1500 note on a waterfront condo in ohio the mrs just had to have
2400 for our house...

people pay that combined total easily for some of the houses up here

For me it's about work. I like being a bike courier and San Francisco is one of the few cities where I can make a living at it. It's easier to sell myself as a DJ because the clubs are close together.

I also like that there's very few norms to live up to. You can date, dress, worship, believe and act pretty much any way you want so long as you don't get in too many people's way.

It's a slow day so I'm chilling at fisherman's wharf waiting on my next order. If I wanted I could log off work completely, take off my pants and sing the Brady bunch theme and nobody would care.

if ur bm makes 550k shouldn't she BE a millionaire?
That's the most she's made since she's had her own businesses in one year. But yes, she should be a millionaire. I've told her that time and time again. But she's too busy getting screwed over by other people, family, beggars, and her real estate agent. But you can't tell no hood chick that shit. She thinks she's some big boss. I get in where I fit in. Few weeks ago she had 12k in cash laying on the bed to transfer from bank account to the other. I snatched up a little something something :D
But to put it in simple terms, she's stupid.

my boy got relocated from nyc to houston for work. they gave him a moving bonus and his salary is the same.

the ninja is a king down there. apartment in nyc to 6 beds in houston

lol oooook. makes sense.
Same thing happened to me. NY to Tampa. Moving bonus, same salary, plus I no longer pay state tax. That's about an extra $400 per check.
