BGOL Finance: how much monthly income does it take to live comfortably in your area?

I work 30-40hrs a week

Do prob 3 coffee meetings/week

about 2-3 dinners during the week

weekend prob spend 300 on eating out/drinks

amy drive on weekends so gas is prob 60/month

I walk most places, about 25 miles/week, walk 20 mins to work & 20 mins back

free food at work and free drinks

team event every month e.g. movies, bbq's, bowling etc

gym in my building, concierge for laundry, packages etc

hot tub and sauna

chicks on app rotation

don't know if i could live that suburban life :(

I feel you. Seems you stay busy. I guess that's where I differ.

I have a low tolerance with being around people. I don't like to be bothered much when I'm on my time.

I pretty much work, come home and chill. Usually doing to personal building with myself and family. We go out from time to time, but I'm frugal, so I like to find was to not spend.

I hang out with folk from time to time, but I can also go months without hanging with folks too.

I can make $100 easily last a week and many times less depending on the food stock in the crib.

My life style is definitely not fun, lol. But it kinda fits my personality.

I like to visit big cities, but I never have been able to imagine living in one.

But definitely many of the things you do can be done here. Just not very diverse, if you know what I mean.

you due for a visit too brethren!

Rent prices got so high that everybody trying to own out here..........and that is a beautiful thing. Owning houses is not easy but i'm paying more for rent than people I know paying mortgages. They're building equity, I am not. Time to change.
I hate Ohio. I'm in denial about settling here permanently, which is why I'm reluctant to buy a home here.

I live in Charlotte, NC. Most expensive city for renters in the state. Average one bedroom goes for $1060 a month.

I live in California, recently moved from Oakland to Burbank

It's fuckin expensive... I make good money but damn life here is expensive.

I had to kinda rush and rent a place here, I had corporate housing for 30ndays and that wasn't enough time to buy a home.

I have a 3 bdrm 3 bath condo and pay 3200 for just 1400 Sq ft.

What does it take live well where you are?

I'm struggling to pay her bills too! Cheese it's be expensive!

Thats a one bedroom in the trendy parts of NY

You gotta lower that price a little
Gotta recognize. Are we talking white people or black people comfortable? I'm thinking of Wall Street. I'm thinking of $10k/month apartments for 1-2 bedrooms. I'm thinking of broadway and sports season tix on the floor of the garden and/or Barclays. Of vacationing in the Hamptons, vineyard, or nj shore. Thinking of going to Europe or Asia twice annually. Super bowl and NCAA, fight weekends, etc.

I'm not there but I know these people. One of my partners was trying to get me to join a jet sharing program. $5000 per hour. I don't fly that often (maybe 4-6 times per year) but I dont need a private jet. He makes at least $2M (I've seen his taxes).

So $600k really isn't doing that much in NYC.

Rental costs & real estate are fucked on the westcoast of Canada. Place has gone up in value nearly 50% from what was paid for it back in the day (assessed value was up 23% since last year). Property was paid off in 2009. Saving for 2nd property at present. Investments and retirement portfolio are in check. Most people I know make anywhere from $3500 - 6500 monthly. Just a matter of living within your means and planning for your future. The Joneses do not need to be kept up with just because. No point in flossin' if you're earning a modest income and not swimming in coin like ...

Northern VA is weird. Inside the beltway, 2000-2500/month. That's food, rent, gas/Metro (no ez pass), and not much else. Outside the beltway, say past Occoquan, 2500/month will get you a detached house w/ garage. The commute might be hell.
Sounds about right. I'm in NOVA and I'm paying $1900 for 1250 square feet in a really nice apartment. Job is right across the street.

Greensboro, NC

Without financial troubles for a single man i would say about 1500 to 2k a month and probably less than that depending on your mindset.

A family man, I would say about 2k to 3k. 3k to ease the financial burden.

No doubt. U can live good here at about 3 k a month. I make twice that and its lovely. 2k sq ft house for around a grand a month.

Man, fuck you!
Lol, where people mess up is wantin a 3-4 br 2bath+ house when it's just 3-4 people that cost over 150k

Fuck you gonna do with those two extra rooms when the kids want to move out?

Live check to check cause your mortgage is over 1500, 1500m for 30ys :roflmao2:

My gal and I live cheap, we ain't broke but we live cheap.

I don't allow my.wife to work.

My kids come first, I remember being home before my mom and all the shit I got into before 530pm.

Plus I don't trust child care... you fuck with my kids and you will get a better understanding of my screen name.

Living comfortably in NYC means no less than $25k/month which is only $300k/year. Change that to $50k/month.

All depends WHERE you are living.
When I was 30 years old I was making 45k
Living just fine in a rent stabilized building

I would love to see your breakdown on this.
Rent is less than $1000, drive a new Honda Accord for $380/mo, cook your own food what else do you need to break down. I've done it before and I've never been broke.

Hell, my house note on a 3300sq ft awesome home is below $1600 ..Lol.

That house note is even too much for someone making $4k. You can find a $1100mo house easily in Powder springs , Austell, South Atlanta , etc.
