It was even better pre 9/11 when you could drive into Canada without a passport or enhanced license.
Man, I grew up literally 10 minutes from the Peace Bridge. We used to go food shopping in Ft. Erie and be back in like 30 minutes.

Once rode our bikes over the bridge as kids.

Niagara Falls/Rainbow Bridge was like a 25/30 minute drive.

Miss the convenience of visiting another country so easily and quickly.

Yeah those were the days.

man i used to love going to canada
but everytime id go they put me in the room full of brown people for the secondary inspection
and the officers were always dicks
to me it was clear they didnt want black people there
and then for caribana oh man the customs people were assholes
i even wrote a letter threatening to sue and they responded
told me it wasnt like that bla bla bla and to bring the letter with me everytime i cross
fuck that!
mofos always ruin a good thing....hell i used to drive up there just for perkins

I know it's not a choice in the list but, Mount Vernon might be the best in the state.
Besides property tax being high there is no extra city tax like Yonkers or NYC .
On top of that it has 3 metro north stations and 2 subway stations to get into the city.
I'm from Mount Vernon. You don't want to live there. South side looks like shit. The government is corrupt and mismanaged. The cops are racist. I lived right up the hill from Dyre Avenue in the Bronx literally right on the border. I lived in Peekskill for 8 years and loved it. My sister lives in Mohegan Lake. Yorktown/Yorktown Heights is nice. Ossining is nice too. New Rochelle is nice away from the Main St. area. Some areas are exclusive. My sister teaches in Rye. Her son teaches in Portchester. I don't like Porchester though. Parts of Yonkers is nice but it's a hilly city.

Ironically I had more issues coming back into New York than getting into Canada.

its a lot of us(western nyers) in here...cool!
My biggest pet peeve being a WNYer is hearing people refer to WNY as “Upstate” lolz

Damn shame you always caught issues crossing the border into Canada. Only time I ever had an issue was at the Rainbow Bridge, where they ran my friends license and saw he had a record and was denied entry.

We turned around and dropped him off and took the Peace Bridge into Canada instead.

First off I hate upstate architecture. Those fucking wood framed houses, fuck that! Syracuse is full of them, shanty like. Buffalo, sheesh the drive. Get that far might as well keep it pushing to Toronto. Yonkers is a Staten Island clone, visually and culturally.

In saying all that White Plains is a hidden gem and is the furthest north I would live in the USA, although I will retire soon enough and use my 183 days visa for Montreal from April-October.

Lmao, I know all that about Mount Vernon, especially the government part.

Drinking age was 18, no pasties and full on nude....man you couldn't tell me or my boys nothing when we were just outta high school.

Lundy's Lane......
We used to party in Niagara Falls And Buffalo back in the day. I used to be in Buffalo on the regular as a youth...shopping, concerts, liquor and blunt runs, plus I knew some people who lived and went to school there.

Got people in Mount Vernon practically paying two mortgages on one property.

I met someone who was paying upward of 20K+
All them taxes and the streets are tore up. Memorial Field is still on the backburner. They building houses on top of houses. And get this, the former ousted mayor is running for comptroller! My city used to be beautiful. Basketball courts filled every day. Baseball fields filled every day. We had a big time softball league back in the day. Nothing but immigrants occupy the south side now. Nothing against immigrants but I don't recognize my home anymore. Sad.

Not to mention the taxes. My mom pays $14k/yr in taxes. I pay 1/10th of that here in VA.

its crazy how they still got us paying non stop taxes on shit

we are SUPPOSED TO OWN..

there is some real hardcore mindfuckery taking

place here

Well, first of all, Long Island isn't a city but moving on, New York City supports the whole fucking state. You take the revenue and culture of NYC from NY state and you're left with...South Dakota.

This is true of most states ( blue states )

Take out the major city and the rest of the state can't shit.

.....wife and I have been in Florida for almost 12 years. We are actually looking into selling our home and going back to Buffalo, possibly in the spring after school let's out.

Our kids don't have cousins/family here and we may be able to double our money selling our home and buying a comparable property up north cash.

Anyone leave NYS for years only to return?

Made an offer on a home. Reviewing documents this morning, have a home inspection scheduled for later today with a closing date of December 1st.....

I leave for Buffalo next week.

Oh and we're listing our FL home this week. Hopefully it sells quick, didn't want a mortgage on the new home, want to pay cash on it.

Can't wait to be home.
