Well, first of all, Long Island isn't a city but moving on, New York City supports the whole fucking state. You take the revenue and culture of NYC from NY state and you're left with...South Dakota.

That said, the cities closest to NYC are going to be "the best" because of their proximity to The Apple.
Buffalo (perhaps surprisingly a major Underground Railroad stop) is racist and cold as fuck. So is Sorrycuse. The Capital Region (Albany and all those Greek named cities) is a dump. Binghamton is one big ghetto.

Scarsdale is fucking gorgeous but mad expensive. So are parts of White Plains. On the river you have a small part of Yonkers that's nice, Hastings, Irvington, Dobbs Ferry, some of Tarrytown. All these have beautiful areas on the river but very expensive and exclusive.

Look at it this way: if NYC is a 10, the next closest city would be a 2.5. Maybe. On a good day.

There are no subway stations in Mt. Vernon.
Technically no. Make more sense for me to say Mount Vernon has access to two subway stations.

Wakefield 241st Station is right at the border which sits on White Plains rd. Which is 1st Street for Mount Vernon.
Dyre ave Station is right at the border which is on Dyre Ave, which is 5th Ave in Mount Vernon.

I know it's not a choice in the list but, Mount Vernon might be the best in the state.
Besides property tax being high there is no extra city tax like Yonkers or NYC .
On top of that it has 3 metro north stations and 2 subway stations to get into the city.
Nah. There are some nice areas in Mt Vernon but lawd when you first cross the Mt Vernon borders especially from the Bronx side. Shit be reminding me of old Juvenile music videos. I'd rather live in New Rochelle or Yonkers than Mt. Vernon. Either way taxes are gonna be beyond high. I have a friend who lives right near the Mt. Vernon border (literally about 100 yards) and his taxes are damn near double what they would cost if he was on the Bronx side of the border :smh:

I know a few people who are practically paying the amount of two mortgages for one property cause the taxes are so flipping high.

Yeah pretty much. It's ridiculous. My pops tried to get me to stay in NY when I told him I was relocating to NC at first. When he found out my salary wasn't tied to my location and saw that I was able to buy a house and what I get for what I paid, he quickly shut up.

There are no NYC subway stations outside the borders of NYC for several reasons. So no is no.

It's more accurate to say a very small portion of Mt Vernon has walking access to the NYC subway.

I worked in Elmsford years ago. There's a strange vibe up there.
Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow remind me of the type of movie where three people control the town and kill outsiders before they discover a dark secret. lol

lol. I hear ya. For some reason, those river towns are like that. Maybe it's the undead that come out at night...:scared:

There are Trump banners on every lawn in Buffalo.
Not true. Was there in October. Buffalo (the City) is a heavily Democratic city. I'm 42 and cannot recall a Republican mayor ever being elected to office in Buffalo.

The suburbs are another story.

Been to Brooklyn, Manhatten. Harlem, but when I hit that reggae spot in Queens. That was a good night.

As a born and raised Rochester resident I'd say Buffalo. The racism argument has no merit since west of NYC the entire state is fucking Alabama. But Buffalo has two pro sport teams. They get major concerts from touring artists. The universities in the area are pretty good. It borders another country and several major cities are within 2 hours. Visiting relatives will always be blown away by Niagara Falls. They have developed the downtown unlike Rochester and the cost of living is cheap. Its Buffalo easy.

Someone above mentioned Rochester being stuck in the past and that brought back memories of when I went to college in the area back in the early 80s. At the time it seemed like they were still in the mid 60s. Booker T and the MGs "Green Onions" played every Sunday heavy, rap music seemed like it was new to the people and everyone sounded like they just rode into town on the "Bama Express". They seem so amazed at how all the kids from NYC were "advanced".

:roflmao3::roflmao::roflmao2::lol:

Rochester has never been like that...ever. too many residents from NYC to ever be that way. clearly they and you have never been here. Rochester is a minor city but it has never been bama-ish.

I went back home in the fall for the first time in years and I was floored by how much has changed.

Buffalo definitely developed a lot of its downtown and waterfront areas. Honestly would have been lost if someone dropped me off downtown.

Other areas haven't been so lucky though, once you get I to the outer hoods.

Crazy shit is, my mother has received crazy cash offers for her home (the house I grew up in) and the homes in her area are selling at ridiculous prices, since the neighborhood is close to downtown.

I probably couldn't afford to buy a home in Buffalo right now but I do miss those quick trips to TO, Niagara Falls-Clifton Hill or other areas of Southern Ontario.

The cost of living is definitely shooting up.

I'm sorry to break the bad news to you but your hometown was very Bama-ish when I got there in 1982. It was until the 2nd half of the 80s when things started to change. A lot of kids who went to the colleges up there decided to stay and move people from NYC moved up there.
