How old are you?? This guy was only a "6th Man" because he was playing on crippled feet and ankles, and he still DOMINATED in that role. He wasn't a "6th Man" because he wasn't good enough to start.
It's not "what could have been," but what was. Everytime he was physically able to step on the court he was one of the best players in the league. If you were alive back then you might understand that.

Again, compare how many peak years are we talking about? Compare that to the rest of the players on the list. I have no idea since when 4-5 top years get in a top 50 ever list. Or even the hall. You still talking shit about "what could have been" or "when he was healthy". What about the players who DID do it for a long time and are not in the hall?

When you're an MVP and a dominant CENTER with unusual skills.
None of those "players who did it for a long time" (whoever they are) had the peak years that Walton did, obviously. Were they ever MVPs?? No.
How many "peak years" did Gale Sayers have? He played all of 4.5 years due to injuries. No one questioned his HOF credentials. He clearly established himself as one of the all-time greats over a short period of time, as did Walton (who played longer, and became one of the all-time great "6th Men" along with an all-time great center).
Again, Walton's career was hindered by injury, and not by a failure to perform beyond 4 or 5 great years (as a starter). He wasn't a "flash in the pan" as you seem to imply. He was outstanding right to the end, in whatever role he was able to play.
First 6 years (mostly starting): 33.1 MPG 16.6 PPG 12.8 RPG 4.2 APG
That's all in less than 3/4 of a game.
Last 3 regular years (less playing time): 23.1 MPG 9.6 PPG 8.0 RPG 2.5 APG

Bill Walton belongs in the Hall for what he did at UCLA...but to have him as an NBA top 50 player,invalidates the list.

There are no Duke players that accomplished what Bill Walton did. Dunking was outlawed his entire college career and he still shot about 60%, led his team to an 88 game win streak and went like 20 for 22 in one national championship game. he may have been the most skilled college center ever.

he is also in the nba top 50 of all time. CAC was good but he is not deserving of hall of fame he missed to many games with injuries. dude was softer then macgrady.

One of the greatest centers of all time? Is he top ten? Cause I can named 10 better than him in my sleep. And do you think Penny and Grant Hill are HOFer because they both were dominate players at there positions before injury (although neither won a ring or were MVP)? He had a few great seasons but I don't think he played 500 career games.

Since neither won an MVP (or even came close) they obviously weren't as dominant at their positions as Walton was at his (much more important) one. Hardaway really did nothing HOF worthy. Hill is certainly an HOF quality player and better than a number of those already in the Hall. He should get some consideration, though he likely won't because there are too many great players at his position. I'll ask again, name an MVP who isn't in the Hall.
How many games did HOFers Gale Sayers play or Sandy Koufax pitch? Players whose off-the-charts careers are blown up due to injury, and not simple failure-to-perform, can still be recognized by knowledgeable people. Walton put in 10 years on two bad feet. He was highly productive in 9 of them.
(BTW, I thought it was stated earlier that college play was also factored into his HOF status, and he was arguably the greatest college player ever. Dude went nearly 5 years without losing a game from high school through college.)

Would be a good comparison if Walton was the player the caliber of Koufax and Sayers. Koufax was the most dominate BASEBALL PLAYER for 5 years. Sayers was the best Offensive weapon for maybe four years before injuries. Bill Walton wasn't the best basketball player (or center for that matter) before his injuries.
Combination of both. DUke players for the most part havent done shit in the NBA.
