Arrow Wants To Bring Back One Of Its More Popular Characters

arrow_116777.jpg

As the longest-running superhero comic show currently airing on primetime television, The CW’s Arrow has accumulated quite a cache of side characters that can be brought back at any time, and Seasons 3 and 4 have seen the show taking advantage of plenty of them. In fact, the most recent episode brought back Roy Harper, Nyssa al Ghul, and Tatsu Yamashiro all at once. According to executive producer Marc Guggenheim, there’s one popular character in particular that he wants to bring back: Jessica Du Gouw’s Huntress. We’d like to. We had an idea for an episode this year, but Jessica was unavailable and I wouldn’t dream of doing the Huntress without her.”
The Huntress – also known as Helena Bertinelli – is one of Oliver’s more ill-advised former flames, one who used his training to become a vengeful crossbow-carrying villainess. Taking into account Arrow’s recent affinity for spotlighting characters in masks, Guggenheim’s admission on his Tumblr page that he’d like the Huntress back comes as no huge surprise.

This is not the first time that Marc Guggenheim has taken to Tumblr to talk about the Huntress. He revealed last year that a Huntress episode was scrapped in Season 3 due to the unavailability of Jessica Du Gouw.

As much of a bummer as her absence has been for fans of the Huntress, there’s no denying that another actress simply wouldn’t be able to embody the character after what Du Gouw brought to the role. Recasting just wouldn’t work, and the Huntress isn’t so essential a character to Arrow canon that she would need to be brought back without Jessica Du Gouw. She first appeared back in Season 1 in a two-parter that more or less served as her origin story. Following in the grand tradition established early on of bad things happening to women who jump into bed with Oliver Queen, her quest to avenge the death of her fiancé took a dark turn as more and more innocents became collateral damage.

The Huntress was arrested following the conclusion of her quest for revenge, and she's currently locked away in Iron Heights Prison. Considering the ease with which other characters have escaped from Iron Heights in the past, Guggenheim really shouldn’t have too much trouble coming up with a believable way for the Huntress to return to the streets of Star City if Jessica Du Gouw becomes available for Season 5. Now that Oliver is much more of a standup guy – aside from concealing his secret kid in Central City in one of the least heroic decisions ever made on this show – it should be interesting to see how he and the Huntress would interact in another meeting.

In the meantime, there’s plenty going on with Arrow without the Huntress making a return. Arrow airs on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.

Deathstroke As A Future DC Films Villain? Here's What We Know

The CW's Arrow has become one of the most beloved superhero TV shows of all time in just four short years. However, as good as the show has recently become, it still can’t compare to the glory of its second season. One major reason for that particular season’s success was the ample use of Manu Bennett’s Slade Wilson a.k.a Deathstroke. Many fans have clamored for Deathstroke to return to Arrow, but it looks like DC has bigger and better plans for the iconic character.

When asked on Tumblr about the potential for characters like Deathstroke or Walter Steele to return to Arrow at some point in the near future, Arrow Executive Producer had this to say:

The character of Slade Wilson is currently tied up in another DC project. Walter is more likely.

That statement is as vague as it is enticing. Although it remains unclear exactly what "another DC project" refers to, we can make some educated guesses. One such possibility would be the inclusion of Slade Wilson in a future Suicide Squad sequel. This would make sense as many have speculated that Scott Eastwood’s as of yet unnamed character in the upcoming Suicide Squad is a young Slade, and the events of the movie could see him become the Deathstroke we all know and love. Another theory points to the possibility that Deathstroke will play a major role in a futureBatman solo film as a rogue assassin that Bruce Wayne must stop; think Batman: Arkham Origins but with all of the crap removed.

While the possibility of Deathstroke hitting the silver screen excites us, it also equally disappoints the hardcore fans of Arrow. Manu Bennett’s Slade Wilson really was one of the characters that sold us wholeheartedly on the first two seasons of the show, and his absence has become noticeable. We aren’t alone in that opinion, evenArrow’s lead actor Stephen Amell recently admitted that Bennett brought something special to the show, and that Arrow could use some Deathstroke right about now.

Introducing Deathstroke as a villain for the DC Extended Universe would make a great deal of sense at this stage of the game. Beyond his status as an elite soldier, Slade Wilson also has been enhanced to the peak of human perfection through a super soldier program, bringing him to a record high in strength and condition. His combined physical and mental attributes could make him the perfect villain for a soloBatman adventure. He’s also a villain with ties and relationships (some good, some bad) to various organizations throughout the DC universe – ranging from the Suicide Squad to the Teen Titans – so he’s arguably one of the most flexible characters to include in the coming universe.

No matter what, it seems that Warner Bros. has a plan for the character, and he hasn’t been left to rot on Lian Yu. We will bring you any and all information concerning the future of Deathstroke as it becomes available to us.

said that in the second season and people were trying to debate me. shit dont make no sense lol

The disparity in writing quality between the Flash and Arrow now is so damn glaring its painful to watch...

they gotta hire some new talent because ONE weak show hurts the entire UNIVERSE they trying t create.

Boring! Damian Dark isn't much of a main villain, it would have been better if they just made the whole season a flash back.

Were my eyes playing tricks on me or did one of those big boulders
actually fall on top of Speedy in the building collapse?

If Damien Darhk's powers are as far reaching as they were displayed in this episode
shouldnt he be able to take out team Arrow in minutes?

So not only does Diggle have a Magneto like mask his suit or whatever gives him the ability to
deflect metal objects....hilarious

It was a wonderful concept they BORROWED from Lost and somehow someway it actually HURT the show

It is just too much for them to handle.

all the mistakes they say they learned from the first season and Smallville they are MAKING right now.

they all over the place.

The problem is every season they have to create a big bad so damn powerful he can effect the ENTIRE city so it is always unbalanced.

They need to bare it down EVERYBODY can't be a superhero on this damn show

It was better when he was Batman-lite.

One of the best eps was when Constantine came because it is so damn out there

same with the Flash and the metas...

STICK with that.

Arrow should be the most grounded show and all this stuff needs to completely throw them off.

They need better fight scenes, Arrow needs to fight actual CRIME again

How you going to the LOST city afgain LOST city of Nanda Parbat in like 15 min every week?

The Flash backs were actually the best part of the show during the first season and parts of season two.

They've used Arrow to branch off and introduce to many different characters that had also hampered storytelling. Too many characters are involved in team Arrow. Captain Lance needs to be killed so that Laura can leave and protect another city. Thea was cool in the beginning being Merlin's daughter but now I'm sick of her. They fucked up Raz and the league. Shit has been down hill since they wanted us to believe that Oliver survived getting stabbed though the chest, falling about 20+ feet and withstanding freezing to death.

Happy Birthday fam...
