Report from the retirement front.

Okay, I've been retired for a little over 2 years. Here's the deal: I'm loving it, but there's some weird shit. I'm 60, and have been working since I was 14. When it gets close to 11 o'clock, I start to think I need to go to bed soon. My wife tells me, "You're retired. Why the fuck are you clock watching?!". Funny thing is, she tells me all the time, "I feel like I haven't accomplished anything today.".
Me: "You're retired. The only thing you need to accomplish is to survive the day."
When we cruise, we take naps in the middle of the day. At home, not so much. We both started working in our teens, and we're also veterans, so it still feels weird not doing shit.

I'm not knocking it. If you can retire at 58, I highly recommend it, BUT, if you've been working most of your life, it's an adjustment. Yes, this is a first world problem, but a problem none the less. My aunt said, "You retired at 58 a millionaire. You're good.". She's right, but, going from grinding most of my life to telling the world to suck my dick is an adjustment that takes a minute to get used to. Again, I'm NOT complaining, just letting y'all know what it's like. If you're getting ready to retire soon, I'm just letting you know, it's going to be an adjustment. Trying to adjust from working most of your life to telling the world to kiss your ass is not a bad adjustment, but it's still an adjustment. :D

Good points Wood. I'm going to retire in a few years. My goal is to focus on music production. Playing and recording instruments. I look forward to it. Been grinding in Corrections for 30 years. It's time for me to get out and do something I really look forward too.

I'm retired (at 65) and am 2 years in. I do miss the grind but not the BS that goes along with it. Playing music and hosting my grand kids keeps me busy. My son and his girl stay with us (at the moment) so.........never a dull moment.

The first week day I woke up and realized I had nothing to do and nowhere to be was crazy. :lol:

@woodchuck Dope thread!!

I'm 53 soon to be 54, would love to hear more wisdom on this topic from you and other Brothers.

Retired Brothers how are you handling healthcare?

Any advice on medicaid or medicare and what plans A-B-C?

Thanks Fam!
Funny story: I retired on a Friday, but I never killed my alarm clock. On Monday, my alarm went off, and after a few minutes, I got up and brushed my teeth. After I came out of the bathroom, my wife said, "Where the fuck are you going?". We were just laughing about this the other day.

Medicare A & B but I have a Humana Advantage Plan (includes dental, vision). Word of advice though, sign up at 65 and cancel the insurance from your job (if you plan to continue working). It's WAY cheaper BUT.......if you're carrying insurance for your wife, keep your job provided insurance until you're both retired. She'll have to get her own insurance once she's retired. Make sure to get an advantage plan. Part A and B alone do not provide dental or vision. My wife retired before me (at 62) and had to apply for Medicaid. She's not old enough for Medicare yet. Also attend Medicare seminars. It's a lot of info to absorb and you'll get a free meal out of it.

As for healthcare, we're both veterans, so we have VA healthcare. Also, we live in Panama, so, out of pocket stuff is not too expensive.
