That is why I am jailbreaking on day 1.
Went to a cousin's place in late-2019. Another cousin (18) and his dad (mid-40s) had previously set up a VR gaming room for a 13yo relative of theirs there. They were having a blast that evening. They had also made a custom gaming PC for him.

I came home, bought it Wednesday, and it came yesterday. My friend came over (see the video below) and right after he got off the game he bought one.
Quick question: I didn't know how much fun I was going to have with this, but I love it. I got my sweat vest on, I'm about to lose hella weight
Problem is, I got the $299, 64GB version. Now, I just got it. Should I return it to get the 256GB version for $100 more? I've already purchased a game for it, though (Super Hot).
Will the game transfer if I swap it out for the version with the larger hard drive?

Yes games will transfer they are linked to your account.... Just redownload them...
Size depends on how many games you get and if you feel like redownloading and swapping games when you need to make space. I personally buy some and bootleg some so I definitely went with the bigger size for convenience.
Do you have a gaming computer? Using the link opens you up to even more games.... To me the quest is the best vr as far as bang for your buck...

The cheaper version is the better value because most of the games have a small footprint. Your games are tied to your account not the device. The shit is hella fun, it will have fucking off responsibilities and losing track of time. Instead of of buying the 256 version get the battery pack and rechargeable batteries for the controllers.
You don't even need a computer now or a cable. Check out shadow pc and virtual desktop.
The two games I played the most are Beat Saber (Demo version) and Super Hot, I purchased the full game. It
Super Hot is like a Mission Impossible training game where you have multiple bad guys you have to shoot, stab or throw Chinese stars at before they shoot you. It's hella fun

How involved is facebook in the quest?
You are fucked if you are a new user. As an old user I was able to keep and use my original Quest account. Fuck Facebook.
Edit: A jailbreak is in work but I don't think it has been spotted in the wild.
Its shitty that they are involved at all, but its really not a big deal. Once u sign up the first time with the FB account, U don't really have to have any additional dealings with it. However, I am not for sure how much info they track on you. This probably is only an issue for non FB users, as for current users, they already have your info anyways.
