Told my wife she can quit her job if she wants.

hahahaha

once there is no conflict of interest then you are fine.

also let her still work and do her thing

we don't know what the economy is going to do yet with this fool in charge

just stack paper right now

hold up on spending as much as you can

Congrats to you Fam!! That salary will keep going higher and higher..

Man this thread is hella motivating! A lot of security vets on the board I see. Is an entry level position in a security operations center a good starting point to more opportunities (and money!) in security or should I be going a different route?

Yes. I know a few SOC employees. They all got coached up on using SIEMs. The thing is, dont plan on making SOC the endgame (high turnover). Learn a system and move to a more permanent position.

I got a certificate in cybersecurity and I'm working to pass the n plus and s plus certification.

Where do I start?

I need the certs first then start applying?

I have no experience.

Anyone have any security ebooks? I'm using test out but I don't like it too much.
Here are some good resources for IT Books:

Start with Network+

Between the books and youtube you should be fine.

What do you think of test out?

Also

I'm trying to get these certifications fast so I can get a career I'm doing some office filing shit right now.

I wanna study 8 to 10 hours a day but can really do 2 a day good due to time.

Thinking bout quitting this shit. I want both certifications in 2 months or less.

I failed the network plus the first time. I'm doing the s+ read through now.

i made sure i had a job where i'd be able to get hands on experience in the shit i was interested in.
I had a few network engineers that were able to teach me a lot of shit that i didnt know anything about.
made it easier to understand as time went along.

When I took both I used books, videos and sample test questions I found online. Didn't pay for anything.

Subnetting and knowledge of how switches/routers work requires hands on. (In the job market) You may also be expected to know how to navigate a router's internals via ssh. So you may want to learn basic Cisco router commands to list tables, vrfs, etc.

I used TestOut through my college. Decent product, but the time devoted to the material can be spent just as efficiently through videos and books for free. The largest benefit was interactive labs. Truly, look for a local boot camp if you want to spend money, otherwise search for free study products.

Test out was provided through the wia program. I dislike it because it takes a ton of time and I feel I could have passed the n plus with books instead of wasting the 140 the first time.

I need to get a decent job I've been broke forever. So I need to make this happen and fast.

For the comptia stuff try to get your hands on as much practice tests as you can. e.g the project+ is 100 ques with 90mins on the exam. So practicing taking the test is a must there. even if you know the material the questions are not straight definitions. You often have to pick the best answer from a list.

VMware certified, now studying for that sec+. I posted alot of material in the technology forum a few years back when the other OGs (BlackLS430, CybaCypha, others) was on the board but took a few years off. I remember someone posting a voucher for Comptia Sec+ that lets you get half off the test but havent been able to find one.

Yah them vouchers is hard to find nowadays. I can find one for VMware VCP. I just got my VMware VCA, VCP and working on AWS and VCAP exams.
