this

My cousin got one of these and they are HOT!! Especially for the price. WD HD Player $99, 500GB HD $149...downloading and watching vids in HD...PRICELESS.

Anyone that DOESNT have a PS3 or cant afford one should get one of these!!

If you got PS3 you need nothing else, dvd player, cd player, mp3 player, bluray player, and HD media file player all in one!!

Anybody have an issue with choppy video streaming on the PS3?

Need help....using thumbgen...Do the movie files have to be the exact movie title name? Thanks..

no but if your scarface movie is named 1245fd.avi then it wont recognize it

but if its named scarfa_ce.avi then yes

can anybody tell me why i cant access the menu screen on my dvd's (iso)? all my movies has menus but only when i use wd tv to play them i can't access the menu it just goes straight into the movie.

My WD Live suffered a 'catastrophic diagnostic failure'....

Anybody else??...just froze the other day,and now the power light just blinks.Tried the reset button...nothing.

Still have an original...and last week bought a Seagate media player.
Seems to be a much better machine...better remote,more features,more control,built in dock...

WD TV Live Remote app

file.php

another language but u get the idea

currently it only works if u stream your movies

but the app will be updated soon to be able to use it with people that connect a drive to the wd tv live like me

Search the App store for "wd tv live remote"

Q: What is the functionality provided by the remote application?
A: The application allows you to browse and search your media collection and play selected movies, songs or photos on your WDTV. Additionally, the application allows you to stream SHOUTcast radio to your WDTV. You can stop, pause, play and see what's currently playing on your device and also adjust the volume.
Q: What are the requirements for using the application?
A: WD TV Live HD Media Player, connected to your home network and a UPnP enabled media server (e.g. Windows Media Player 11 or above, Twonky Media Server, Buffalo LinkStation, MediaTomb and many many others). Have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UPnP_AV_MediaServers
Q: What is UPnP?
A: The term UPnP is derived from plug-and-play, a technology for dynamically attaching devices directly to a computer. he goals of UPnP are to allow devices to connect seamlessly and to simplify the implementation of networks in the home (data sharing, communications, and entertainment) and in corporate environments for simplified installation of computer components. Have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Plug_and_Play
Q: Can I use iTunes to stream my content to WDTV?
A: Not directly, as iTunes does not support UPnP. You can, however, use a bridging software. Have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UPnP_AV_MediaServers#Software
Q: Can I use play content stored on my locally attached hard drive (via USB)?
A: No. Currently it is not possible as the WDTV does not advertise the locally stored contents via UPnP, at least not using the stock firmware. A modified firmware can establish that though.
Q: Which types of video/audio file types are supported?
A: The remote control application does not add any constraints to the playable media formats. What it basically does is asks WDTV to play the content directly from the media server. So, in essence, what's playable are all the formats available to the WDTV, as long as your UPnP Media Server makes them available.
Q: Which typed of media servers are supported?
A: All UPnP media servers are supported, as long as they are following the standard. As there's a very large number of implementations out there, it's not really practical to certify the applications with all of them. We did test the applications with some of the popular ones. For a list of available media server, have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UPnP_AV_MediaServers#Software
Q: Do you support playlists?
A: We do, WDTV does not :( . The most update WDTV Stock firmware has a bug which prevents it from playing playlists of UPnP.
Q: Do you support anything other than iPhone?
A: Not currently.
Q: Which types of internet radio does the application support?
A: Currently only SHOUTcast.
Q: Do you support YouTube?
A: We will in an upcoming version. Version 1.0 supports only internet radio.
Q: Can I use the WDTV stock firmware?
A: Yes. We do suggest, however, that you upgrade to the latest one. The application was not tested with earlier version of the firmware.
Q: Can I use the modified WDTV firmware?
A: Yes. It was also tested with B-RAD's modified firmware.

Did you know? Quick WD TV Live tips

10 minute skip
Press Fast Forward/Reverse on the remote then Next/Prev to skip forwards or backwards 10 minutes at a time.

Play multiple files in a row
Instead of pressing the Enter button while a file is selected, you can press the Play button to play all of the files in the current folder sequentially, beginning with the currently selected file.

Use multiple external subtitles with the same video
If you have a file named video.avi, you can add subtitle files named video.srt to view subtitles. However, if you have multiple subtitle files, you can still use them: If you had an English subtitle file and a Spanish subtitle file, you could name them video.en.srt and video.es.srt and they would both be available during playback of the video. This also works for other subtitle formats, such as SMI, SSA, SUB, or IDX.

Info bar toggle
You can quickly toggle the info bar on and off during video playback by pressing Enter on the remote.

How to use MKV chapters

During video playback, if an MKV being played has chapters, press the Option button and select the rightmost icon (the one that has a bunch of litle squares) in the options menu. You can then choose a chapter to play.

Page up/page down in file browsing
While browsing through files, press Next or Prev on the remote to page up/page down.

Subtitle sync adjustment
During video playback, press the left or right arrow keys on the remote to adjust subtitle synchronization by 100 ms at a time.

Thumbnails
If a folder contains an image named “folder.jpg”, that image will be used as the folder’s thumbnail.

If a jpg file is given the same filename as a media file, it will be used as the thumbnail for that file. For example, an image named “video.jpg” would be used as the thumbnail for a file named “video.avi”.

the silver is the live version, which supports streaming video, some internet apps such as facebook, etc. & is the most up to date. Other than that the black one should work fine.
