Zangilu Beniko "Popolipo Zero Faute" earlier this year in Brussels

In Zairian music, any band member may create his own melody and the lyrics that accompany it. However, the guitar solos are created by the guitar soloists. To this end, in the last 30 years, Zangilu Beniko Popolipo has created hundreds of solos that have become anthems. Additionally, he has also dictated songs with masterful arpeggios..The technique of Beniko is so perfect in melody, rythm and tempo that his most famous and enduring nickname is "Popolipo Zero Faute"... (zero fault)

While there are hundreds of excellent guitarists who have left their imprint on the incomparable legacy of Zairian music, there is only one Zangilu Beniko "Popolipo Zero Faute".. And so Pepe Manuaku, another legendary guitarist who preceded him in the institutional band, Zaiko Langa Langa, may have defined the standard, Popolipo perfected it. Since the best 100 guitarists in the world are in Zaire, the best Zairian guitarist is the best guitarist in the world..

It is important to point out that Zangilu is a guitarist from the third generation, and he is the best in that generation. The other generations have given us masters of the strings like the Grandmaster Luambo Franco, Papa Simaro, Dr. Nico etc etc ...who are gods of the instrument and have to be judged seperately.

Here are a few solos by the greatest "youth guitarist" in the history of man...

The technique of Popolipo when nzonzing with Loketo..

Popolipo on the medley of Zaiko hits made for Japanese consumption when Zaiko played in Japan in 1986

The classic song Muvaro from 1980

Before I go, I have to post one of my favourite songs "Mille Souris" by Adios Alemba, a part time member of Zaiko. This song came out only on single, and like many African songs, the master is long lost...Some one dug up his single from around 1980, and transcribed it to cd and shared it on Youtube... In this song, you can hear the masterful guitar of Beniko in which he serves essentially as the 5th voice in the chorus of ballad part of the song, and does a call and answer with the singers. In keeping with A+B structure of Zairian music, the ballad was side A and the seben (dance part) was on side be, and in the middle of the song, there is a brief break. The solo is surreal.and would go on for days if you ask me...

Nzinga suffers from limited perspective. No point arguing with him. He really can't hear that the guitar players he trots out are mediocre. Let him make his statement and keep on moving.

Silently, I usually support his views, though I don't always agree them. But I lost a little bit of respect for him on this one. -2 stars.

They are both better.

Very simple guitar, barely any melody, or rythm, other than the hallucination of an old man. Absolutely bland and very average. Be well Mr BB King, we Africans respect the elders..

They are both better.

This is horrible guitar. Played on a horrible distorted tone. This is even worse than BB King. You know it. I know it, and the only reason why you are saying this is that you must claim that an American is the best at something. There are Africans who play this crap guitar who are otherwise good guitarists and we do not like this shit at all.

C/S on Jimmy. No one better then him

[/QUOTE]

This man would never make it on an African band. He has no concept of order. His sound is chaotic and undisciplined. His technique is very simple. I have talked to may African guitarists and they laugh at this crap...There is a section of African guitarists who have been trying to get an audience with cacs by playing this crap rock guitar...

Oh my god!!!! This shit is brutal. The sound of the guitar is if it is coming from 20 gallon metallic oil can. The man strum across all strings at one time and sings in the most ugly voice...

You describe yourselves. You do anyone other than the inadequate musicians you have. In your minds you think that who ever is the best among you is best everywhere. We have the full perspective. We know your musicians and their music. I know all the bullshit by Jimi Hendrix such as "Hey Joe"; the crap by Prince such at "Purple Rain"; the bullshit by cac band like Van Halen, Grand Funk Railroad etc,,, It is basic in its conception, arrangements and executions. There is no systematic order between the guitars. Absolutely no method to the music...

Let me ask you, what is the concept of poly-layering in so far as it relates to guitar?

I get it. ZInger does this, so he can bone up on African AMerican musicology

youtube PRINCE ZInger... you'll find oe of the BEST EVER

If he wanted to list an African artist, he coulda at least went Johnathan Butler

 You beat me to it!! I studied with Jonathan briefly at the Musical Arts Center of San Antonio, and that man's rhythm with a guitar is ridiculous. His ability to go in and out of notes, while maintaing tempo and rhythm is insane. Almost Santana-esque.

He'll be at the Strathmore on my birthday, and I have the honor of being there that evening. Should be a good show.:yes:

I came in prepared to hate, but after listening to the guitar playing it really is very good and fluid. I'll save the jokes for another time.

You follow me everywhere....like a pack of flies to a pile of shit..What would you do without me?

This nigga just called himself a pile of shit.

First true thing he's ever said.

FIVE FUCKING STARS

Ok the fact that you have invoked a South African indicates to me that you have conceded that there are no American guitarists that you bring to this fight. Which is as it should be, even if the guitarists are from another country. But that concession presents a complication for you, if Jonathan Butler is an American style guitarist, and you have conceded that Americans cannot stand up even to young Zairian boys, never mind the great master Popolipo, how can a wannabe American like Butler do better? To me it seems the only reason why you would bring this character up is to make Africans fight among themselves and destroy each other. Unfortunately Butler is nothing too.

As for your statement that some quality of Butler is Santana-esque? So fucking what? Who is Santana and his little guitar to us? We to guitar what Americans are to basketball. Our kids are better than their professionals. That is the difference is skill.

You still haven't put me on ignore little girl?? This kittens purr is far worse than her bite.

Like i've roasted you in every single thread you've ever posted in here, you know nothing about real music. You said yourself, you've not studied a lick of music, and are more so a fan than anything, but nevermind the books, i'm sure you have no clue what real live music is let alone play any instrument. And save the, "I cruise Dallas every week for music... " rhetoric.

It's old and abated.

You have the right to your opinion, and you can think that every musician coming out of Africa is the truth. Sadly the informed world will tell you different every time. But you don't need me to tell you that. You already know it which is why you force your videos on the BGOL board.

But I digress. I'm feelin pleasant this evening.

Post some more Werrason!
