"Bad" Chad Dawson vs Jean Pascal - Who Ya Got?!?!

Hopkins is a real clever Boxer....remember what he did to Pavlik....he took away his best weapon which was Kelly's straight right....

Pavlik had no answer after that and took a beating....Hopkins can and will school these young boxers...well some of them...I think he would have won if he fought Chad tonight....

I still have yet to see a young cat from this new generation measure up to these older fighters. Sad. Boxing's future is not looking bright.

IF that Hopkins showed up.

This division is gonna be real strong in the next couple years, Bute, Pascal, Dawson, Cloud and prolly some cats from the super six tourney steppin up, it's gonna be deep.

This is the face of the modern boxer Alaskan, take no chances. "Boxing is about hitting and not getting hit" - well nowadays it's just about not getting hit at all at the expense of not hitting either. Dudes are too bitch nowadays. It's why fighters like Manny and Marquez, Glen Johnson and warriors like that are so loved. Even Floyd would have opened up and tried to tear dude a new asshole once he had him hurt. Chad needs a big win against Cloud if he fights him next, and Cloud seems like a warrior himself, won't be easy. Chad needs to get mean and angry. Maybe this loss helped.:dunno:

Emanuel hinted to that....too many decisions...not enough guys finishing...which is true....

we want more excitment....

at least James Kirkland comes out of prison soon...

Well I was wrong, damn Chad looked terrible, I really did not expect that from him, where was his aggression.

I'm holding pascal on this one in a close fight. In canada for one. Plus, chad fighting only older slower fighter over the past 2 years hasn't prepared him for a younger more athletic challenge IMO. I do believe it will be close enough to warrant a re-match and I do want chad to win bcuz I believe pascal would take the belts and hide in canada with them.

Y'all heard it here first... I feel like a prophet on this one, plus. I won 600 on a 200 bet!

If I'm Pascal, I'm taking a Bute fight before I fight Dawson again.
Chad looked terribly unimpressive for most of the fight and I think Pascal is the type of fighter he should beat: little power and only decent defense. When Chad hit him, he hurt him. Just a little more aggression and he could have put Jean away in the 9th.
It might be for the best for Dawson to get that first "0" on his record. Now he knows what that tastes like and it's still early enough in his career he can learn from it.

That was a nasty cut over his eye and when it kept bleeding like a nozzle was turned on, I knew the fight was over and for Chad Dawson, just as he was catching up to Jean Pascal, who fought a smart fight.

I wasn't impressed with Larry Merchant on commentary. The sooner he retires, the better for all parties.

Dawson has no killer instinct or desire to mix it up, he'll never be great, that's my prediction. I thought Larry was dead on all night, dude was just telling the truth. These new guys are just:smh: I loved when he said "If Dawson is one of the top 10 fighters in the world, I'm Edward R. Murrow." Shit was real, how does beating a couple 40 year olds 2 times a piece warrant you being in the p4p list? I thought Chad lost that first Glen Johnson fight anyway. Brothers don't seem to like Larry too much, except for the older brothers I know, could it be he tells the truth too often for their liking? I hope he sticks around. Chad fought like a bitch, he will never attain a killer instinct, it's something you're born with. I think Bute will be the dude in that division to beat pretty much everybody.:D

I'm losing more respect for Dawson as I hear him comment on the fight, From Foxsports:

Jean Pascal beat Chad Dawson on points Saturday night after the fight was stopped in the 11th and retained his WBC light heavyweight title at the Bell Centre.

The fight was halted after an accidental clash of heads opened a deep cut above Dawson's right eye and prevented the American from continuing.

It went to the scorecards, and Pascal (26-1) got the win over Dawson (29-1) when the judges turned in two cards of 106-103 and another of 108-101.

''Chad Dawson is a great fighter, but now I know I also belong among the best in the world,'' Pascal said. ''I showed that I'm the best light heavyweight in the world and that I should be on the pound-for-pound list.''

Dawson and his promoter, Gary Shaw, were upset with Montreal referee Michael Griffin, who they said allowed Pascal to hold on several occasions, and Canadian judge Jack Woodburn, who turned in the 108-101 score while British and American judges had it 106-103.

There was a rematch clause in the fight contract that surely will be exercised, but Shaw said any new fight will not include Griffin and Woodburn.

''The head butt was intentional in my estimation,'' Shaw said. ''I thought the ref should have let Chad fight the last two rounds. He had Pascal in trouble.''

Dawson was hurting Pascal with combinations, and the local favorite appeared to be in trouble when his head came up and made contact with Dawson's forehead, opening the cut that stopped the fight.

''I know for sure I'm not a dirty fighter, and it wasn't an intentional head butt,'' Pascal said. ''Why would I need to do that? I was leading the fight.''

Dawson also was upset with the decision, saying his opponent should be happy with his ''little victory.''

''There were four or five head butts, and the ref didn't do anything,'' he said. ''But we have a rematch clause, and I will be back, and I will bring the title back to the States.''

I'm watching this shit right now and playing it over and over and all I see is Dawson get low and rush forward with his head down, and HIM hit Pascal with his head unintentionally. What horseshit, this cat don't deserve to be no champ or have an immediate rematch. STFU, fight Cloud and climb back up like fighters should HAVE TO after a loss.:smh:

I was happy to see Dawson lose, he's very boring and listless. At least Pascal fights like he wants to win.

Larry Merchant can be real at times but he can also be the main motherfucker sucking a boxer's dick. The problem I have with dude is if the boxer isn't making sense, he'll call them out depending on who they are, but no one says anything about Merchant's stories that go nowhere.

I never thought Chad was a fighter.... a good boxer? yes, but part of being a great boxer is you have to have some fight in you. Whether it be when your back is against the wall or when you got a fighter hurt. I thought Chad was going to prove something to me and he did. He isn't great.

Larry doesn´t let guys get away with double talk and non answers. He asks the hard questions and it's funny sometimes. I'll never forget when he asked Toney after his loss to Roy Jones, "How did it feel to be MASTERED in such a way?" Toney was like, "I wasn't mastered!"

I hear you on Larry, that's real. Dead on, like you said, every boxer has to have some fight in'em, all the great ones do. Chad don't have that, it's a shame, all he lacks is that killer instinct, he has all the other tools to be great. I think he has too much bitch in him. I wonder what all those personal problems were about, the way they were talking, sounded like he had a falling out with everyone including his dad.

:lol::lol:I remember that shit. I was tight that day too like "Fuck you Larry!!!" James was my favorite fighter.:lol:

Dawson tried to do something in the 11th, but was already to late. It's like he didn't even understand that he could throw other punches besides the jab until he got hurt and how did he not realize the jab wasn't keeping Pascal off him.

I know that by the 7th round, somewhere in a boxer mind they have to know that they are losing and have to step on the gas... Even B-Hop's late starting ass would turn it on.

I was arguing this with my brother last night, Chad didn't so much start to do shit as much as Pascal was tired!! All the same though, because a fight is 12 rounds, but I believe the better fighter should be dominate after the first couple of rounds of figuring a guy out. Truthfully, I had when a Dude can't just admit he fought the wrong game plan, had no Plan B, and was out fought, which is exactly what happened in this fight. If Chad can't come to grips with that shit, he is never going to improve because he cannot recognize his deficiencies to improve on. He was clearly out fought, the cut stopped the fight but had no impact on it.... It wasn't as if it happened in the 2nd round!?!?!? Just fess up you got beat, all this Canadian Ref/Judges shit is a way to try to deflect that for the most part he was out fought! He had moments, but I guess it's the location, Ref, and Judge which caused him not to follow up on his advantages as well?!?!? Even when Larry asked him about not following up on when he had Pascal hurt, his dumb ass response was 'That's the way I fight?'.... Weak ass Dude Man.. :smh:

I know dude would have been better off just saying "I had bad night... started late and Pascal took advantage. I'm going to work on somethings and come back stronger in the rematch." That's it. I probably wouldn't be going at him so hard.

Larry's "truth" too often conflicts with the fight I'm watching. You can't ask for Chad to stand and fight when most of the movement is by Pascal (not knocking Jean, it was good strategy). And the "top 10" comment is the mentality that hurts boxing in that it makes top fighters pick safe fights so they don't lose.
Emmanuel Steward can take the place of "Old Dude" fine and do a better job than Larry Merchant. Steward gives me the same sense watching a fight that Joe Rogan gives me when watching a UFC fight: he paints a picture of what's happening in the ring mentally and physically for both fighters.

Yep. Dawson lost to a guy he should have beaten but he played it safe and lost.
A loss to another top fighter shouldn't destroy a young guy's career. If he can't bounce back, that's a different story.

:confused:Larry's comment was based on the fact that every p4p ranking system had this dude in the top ten, he never proved in any way shape or form that he belonged there and clearly after last night's performance does not belong there. So his comment made perfect sense. And no, pussy boxers and their promoters who are afraid to lose or fight someone who can actually give them a fight and think that an undefeated record actually makes a fighter great stop these fights from getting made, not Larry. Dawson was in the top ten because the current crop of young talent sucks - point blank. Every dude coming up that is supposed to be the next big thing has FAILED in the past few years, from Pavlik, to Dawson to Daniel Jacobs.

The statement below I agree with, in part. When a young fighter goes all out against another top young fighter and loses, but still makes it a great fight, then this statement is true.
But when a fighter plays it safe, doesn't go after a fighter when he clearly has him in trouble and is clearly better than the dude in every category except heart, then complains about everything from the ref to the ring announcers mama after the fight, yes it can damage a dude's career. I for one, don't want to see this bitch ass dude fight for a while, and could care less if he does bounce back, he'll still be bitch made to me for the way he acted after the fight, and the lil bitchy comments he made as well. THAT is dude's character and true face.

I think that's true but Dawson also has the fundamentals as a good boxer too. I don't have a problem with playing it safe in the ring to a certain point. My problem was that Dawson was trying to play it safe and was getting hit any way. At some point you have to say fuck it and let your hands go. He didn't figure it out until the end the fight and when he let them go... Pascal was frozen. If he did in he 6th or 7th it could been a different fight.

Now the second part, I completely get where you are coming from.

Most fighters fail to be great, that's what makes the great ones so. That's how sports work. Just because HBO and the major promoters say "this guy is going to be great" doesn't make it so and as more educated fans, we have only ourselves to blame when we fall for it.
I don't recall Larry saying anything about Dawson's ranking before the fight. I often find his comments like that self serving. He'll ride a bandwagon until it's convenient to jump off then he gets all oracle-like and shit on the favored fighter. Dawson got beat decisively but he got beat by a good figher with a superior game plan. Should it knock him down? Yep. Dude lost and lost unimpressively. But the idea that Chad Dawson wasn't a p4p top fighter before the fight is revisionism based on his last fight. That is not something that happens in MMA.

And that's fair because you're speaking from your viewpoint but you and I both know if Dawson goes out and beats Pascal in a rematch, all will be forgiven by most observers and he'll be back on track for big money fights.
I'm not much on holding his promoter's words against him. Shaw should spend less time bitching to the media and more time worrying about his next step.
By rematch time, we should hear more about his shoulder he complained about during the fight but did not use as an excuse when talking to Merchant (who said he was making excuses).

Especially when it looks like you're the fighter with all the punching power.

I don't know if he beats Pascal first off. If he does, Dawson will have to dominate Pascal to earn people's respect. If it's a close Dawson win, it will almost be like another L.

He plainly was making excuses, this cat was complaining about everything except his own "gameplan". Like he was mad that Pascal didn't go along with it.

I also recall vividly me saying about a month ago that I liked Dawson but that he hadn't proven shit yet, cats agreed with me, including you. Now how does a guy who hasn't proven anything belong in the top 10 p4p?

I definitely agree with the second statement. His whole post fight interview was sort of an interview of entitlement, like 'I'm Chad Dawson, don't read too much into this loss, I'm still the man...' He really needs to get his PR game up too, as he really sounded double minded and stupid at times, I'm not gonna take anything away from Pascal, he fought a good fight' , 'He was butting me and holding me the whole fight and the Ref was letting him get away with it'... 'I'm not making excuses, etc', Chad, why didn't you follow up when you had him hurt?.... 'That's the way I fight'. Seemed like he figured all he had to do was show up and he would win. Chad has the potential to be one of the most frustrating fighters in a long time, supremely talented but doesnt have the mind or the heart to be a 'superstar'. In terms of tools, he definitely is in the Top 5-10 in boxing today, but in terms of mindset, his as is a prelim fighter. Put his talent and potential with Manny, Glen Johnson, Angulo, some of those Dude's hearts and mindset, Dawson would be damn near unbeatable.... His damn trainer is too passive too, he needs someone who is gonna get in his ass from time to time... :smh:
