***Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Thread***

The fact remains that everyone was sheltered, and when it came for showtime the whiter faces were pushed towards the mainstream. They need support, and you get it by appealing to the mainstream.Even when it comes to the blacks, the quiet foreigner is more appealing than the black middle class kid from southern cali.

I agree 100% on this, and again, this is my biggest gripe with US Soccer.
But nothing stays the same forever, and one day this will change.

Ask matt357. I'm sure he's got enough inner city experience to speak on this matter.

Ive heard US soccer analyst clown Altidores first touch, fitness, and many other things that you wont hear about Donovan when he has a bad game. Alitodre was even called lazy after a certain loss in Mexico last year:rolleyes:

Bornstein fucks up in the back...but its Gooch who needs to be benched for playing bad:smh:

A wolf cant remain in sheeps clothing for long

Altidore's first touch IS GARBAGE. That's a fact. His fitness is unquestioned, so I don't know where that came from.

Bornstein has his share of troubles and throughout qualifiers was benched for his antics.

And Gooch?? See I should be biased here, because he's from my neck of the woods, and I played against the brotha back in the day, but make no mistake, Bradley benching him was the right thing to do. He was not ready for this World Cup.

That is the wrong perception Americans have against me because I like to talk trash about American music. Yet I am one of the strongest supporters of the Afghan war... The problem may be that people with priviledge resent being talked to the way they talk to everyone else..

Fail, again. You berate with opinion, not fact. Which automatically eliminates your arguments filled with illogical fallacies, and loaded questions.

But to each his own. You can hate all you want. Not gonna make a difference one way or another.

The people's sports in the US are football, basketball and baseball. All of which have way more blacks in power positions than in any football league in England, Spain, Germany et al. You would be an idiot to deny that there are issues of race in America, but to compare America's races issues to those of Italy, Spain, etc. is crazy. I think that Balotelli, Eto'o and every other Euro based black athlete would prefer to overcome the subtle racism that exists in the US than be greeted with monkey chants from 60,000 people at a stadium or have racist banners unveiled at matches.

See, this comes from a brotha that's OUTSIDE OF THE COUNTRY. You'd be hard pressed to believe it, because we live in a bubble in America, but as I previously stated, venture outside of the USA, and take a look at real racism against blacks.

It pales in comparison to what we endure here.

You'd land back at Dulles screaming, "i'm home."

What you think about me is irrelevant... I answered your accusation that I am ignorant of American sport and have not heard from you...

I agree Gooch wasnt ready for the cup, but neither was Bronstein:lol::lol:

Altidore does have a digusting first touch, but they put so much on him while not doing the same for the "Superstar" donovan. I hope US soccer does change, but I dont see it happening the next few cycles. Fransisco Torres is someone I can cheer for, so Hopefully he will be a mainstay.

Hell nah. Bornstein wasn't either in my eyes. Nor Bocanegra

Altidore's stock was raised because of the abscense of our #9.

Donovan is Donovan, and people will have their arguments, but the kid plays ball.

Torres... I fucks with that kid.

Like where?

"None of your business... Lets move on... "

That's a joke. I'm not like you and petty myself to cower when a question is posed.

Have a trip to Naples.

Better yet, i'll PM you the info to stay with some of my family in Avingon. They'd welcome you with open arms, but go walk to the streets at night, and take a french dictionary with you, and translate to yourself. Go see firsthand how they feel about black skin, and watch how instrumentally sound they are in letting their feelings be known.

Come on. There is no way to compare the position of the black players on the US team to that of Balotelli. Are there racist elements that support US soccer? yes. But to compare the treatment that Balotelli gets to that received by any of the US players is incorrect. Everyone on this board knows Im not a fan of US Soccer, but they are miles ahead of Italy and many other European countries when it comes to overt acts of racism.

I donno why he stays there. He should play for Ghana's National Team(his biological parents are Ghanaian)in Brazil to rub that shit in their face.

Outside the Metropolitan areas...The French are stupid racist.

This is spontaneous but, Did Adu try out for the Ghanaian squad? I never understood that. The US squad don't want him. Why the fuck don't he want to play for Ghana? He could of made the Ghanaian bench at least.

In July 2010 right after the World Cup, the Manchester United squad will go to the USA to prepare for their 2010/2011 season. They will be visiting Toronto, Philadelphia, Kansas and Houston.

Fixtures:

July 16, 2010 – Glasgow Celtic, Toronto
July 21, 2010 – Philadelphia Union, Philadelphia
July 25, 2010 – Kansas City Wizards, Kansas
July 28, 2010 – MLS All-Stars, Houston

The squad will be lead by Ryan Giggs and it will include stars like Paul Scholes, Edwin van der Sar, Darren Fletcher, Antonio Valencia, John O’Shea, Michael Owen and Dimitar Berbatov. Accompanying them, will be a number of promising youngsters like Federico Macheda and the da Silva twins.

The first stop is a training camp at the home of their new shirt sponsors AON. Then on 16th, they will head to Rogers Center in Toronto for the match against Celtic. Followed by a return to Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, where they have already played in 2003 and 2004 on July 21 to play against Philadelphia Union. Four days later, they head to Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas to play against Kansas City. The last of the friendlies is the game against MLS All-Stars in the Reliant Stadium.

Two days later, United will be in Mexico to open Chivas’ new 45,000 seater stadium in Guadalajara.

Alex Ferguson said:

“It’s great to be going back to North America. I enjoyed the last two tours there in 2003 and 2004 immensely. The quality of the facilities is outstanding and there is a real enthusiasm in the crowds. It’s especially pleasing to be going in a World Cup year, when the interest in football will be at its height.”

Understatement of the year.

The US do want him, but people forget how young Freddy is. He'll be resurfacing in the coming years.

Fifa 'pressures' Mandela to attend World Cup final

_48318416_009567545-1.jpg

Nelson Mandela's grandson says the former South African president has been put under "extreme pressure" by Fifa to attend Sunday's World Cup final.

Mandla Mandela said the engagement would be "strenuous" for a man who turns 92 next week.

Nelson Mandela cancelled plans to attend the opening ceremony after his great-granddaughter died in a car crash the night before the tournament.

Fifa head Sepp Blatter has said it will be "wonderful" if Mr Mandela attends.

Speaking to the BBC, Mandla Mandela said: "We've come under extreme pressure from Fifa (the governing body of world football) requiring and wishing that my grandfather be at the final.

I think people ought to just understand the family's traditions and customs and understand we've had a loss in the family and we are in mourning

"But I think that decision will solemnly lie with him, as how he wakes up today, how he feels, and what his medical team says.

"My grandfather is 92 years old next week, this is an evening game; he's expected to hand over the trophy after the game which could be anything from 2230 to 2300 and it will be quite strenuous on his part."

The final takes place at Soccer City in Johannesburg on Sunday evening between the Netherlands and Spain.

Despite the varied quality of football, the tournament has been seen as a huge public relations success for South Africa.

Nelson Mandela's attendance would be seen as the perfect end to a competition that has boosted not only his country but all of Africa.

However, he remains in frail health and is still in mourning for great-granddaughter Zenani Mandela, 13, who was killed in a car crash after leaving a World Cup concert in Soweto on the eve of the tournament.

Mandla Mandela said: "I think people ought to just understand the family's traditions and customs and understand we've had a loss in the family and we are in mourning and that for me would be enough reason to leave the family to be for now."

On Thursday, Mr Blatter said: "We cannot foresee exactly what will happen, but if [Nelson Mandela] can come to the stadium it will be good.

"He has had this trophy in his hand when he was in Zurich in 2004, and it will be a wonderful moment for him, for football, for Africa - if this can be a possibility."

I can see what the World Cup gets out of Shakira?? I stopped that shit right there. South Africa helped the likes of Shakira to rape Africa...

I hope the Netherlands whoops Spain. I can't stand La Furia Roja!! Go Oranje! My cousin is studying abroad in Amsterdam right now and said everyone is going crazy over there--I bet that's a great atmosphere.

Spain are gonna win this game definitely. They already have that winning mentality after winning the euros and this is virtually the same team as then. Also theyre the best at keeping possesion of the ball. Holland cant do shit if they cant get the ball. Also the dutch aint really got no bug game players. Robben is easy to deal with - just keep him on his right foot and dont let him ever cut in on his left. Van Persie isnt a big game player either - he needs to much room with the ball at his feet to even pull the trigger - that kind of room will not be available tonight. Schnieder can't do shit on his own he doesn't have the individual skill to run with the ball and produce a piece of magic to give Holland any kind of advantage plus Holland aint gonna get the ball for most of the game anyway.

Also the dutch have more pressure as they have lost twice in the world cup final before and that means these players will be more scared to lose again and so that equals more pressure. A lot of these players cant handle the pressure and expectation levels that come with these big huge games. I think the pressure will definitely get to Holland.

Spain got this one for sure and Torres will probably start as he scored for them in the last final. The players in that team - Xavi, Iniesta et al. have to much big game experience at club and international level.

Should be a great final.

I just hope its an open game and not a cagey midfield battle.

P.S. Whats with all the bullshit football-politics in this thread playas lol???????

Spain are the favourites, but people underestimate the Dutch at their own peril. Also, I think the fact that Webb will be in charge tonite is a advantage for the Dutch. The dutch want a physical, stop start match which Webb will probably allow....

Also, Robben is cold blooded

Why do i have to watch the World Cup closing ceremonies on Univisión, in the US?! Bet it would be broadcast in the US if their team magically happened to be in the finals...this is part of the root cause why there's little support of football in America.

/rant!

So, who are you all picking to win the Cup?

I think my vote goes to Spain. I think David Villa is gonna do his thing out there and help his team get the W.
