Is celibacy such a bad thing?!?

I'm listening to the Michael Baisden show on the way home from work today, and Michael's asking female callers to provide information about how long they've been without sex and why. A few callers have tuned in, and there is a lot of ridicule and sarcasm being thrown around the broadcast. He's even been turning the celibacy thing on women, implying that some of the women who are celibate are so because of the way they look or due to their lack of sexual skills.

Now, I feel Baisden is a female-basher anyway (yeah, I said it!). so sometimes I can't stand listening. But, it really got me thinking...some of these women may have chosen celibacy for spiritual reason, for health purposes (because STDs and HIV is rampant in our community) or for other personal reasons...

So, SOL, is celibacy such a bad thing?!? Is it something to pity women (or even men) for if they're being celibate in their life?

CELIBACY TO A EXTENDED PERIOD IS NOT EVEN HUMAN.:smh:

^^^99% of men who are "celibate" aren't so by choice. It is simply against man's nature to not procreate. And even if you are by choice, your biology will betray you. About 50% of women who are celibate aren't so by choice. However, since there is a caliber of man that will fuck anything, these women just need to change location and all will be fine. The other 50% that are celibate do so by choice.

There's nothing per se wrong with celibacy, it just goes against nature.

Nope, before I got married I almost when a year without sex and I didn't really miss it at all.I guess when you single it is easy.

I feel Baisden is one of the shallowest black radio personalities to ever hit the airways. His concern is strictly for ratings, facts are not the focus.

Enough about Baisden in answer to your question anyone who makes a conscious effort to change their way of life should not be pitied, regardless of whether we agree with their decision or not.

I think many of those who elect to be celibate do so for the wrong reasons. Failed relationships, poor sex or consistently choosing the wrong mates is not a sexual issue but one of the mind. Its one thing to stop having sex its another to understand why your electing to take such action and to then take steps to correct the problem.

I don't see anything wrong with celibacy If its being done for the right reason, its a personal choice that's not for everyone.

And there you have it...you can't deny your biological impulses. They come from millions of years of instinctive survival, and are the reason for the continued existence of our species. When you strip away all the civilization, socialization, and reasoning, humans are just primal animals at our core.

This celibacy fad is getting real played out. I agree with LD's speculation about >99% of so called "celibate" men are so n choice but circumstance. I'd suggest the percentage for women is right up there too.

Let's keep it 100. People that publicly declare and "celebrate" their celibacy are usually full of shit and probably too fat and ugly to get laid anyway. And I see as much utility in pitying a celibate as I do pitying a vegetarian.

I was going to compare the unnaturality of being "celibate" to vegetarianism, but I didn't want to insult the herbivores.

Cant't speak for adults. Its hard to stop doing anything you really like once you get started. So thats why I teach my kids celibacy. Yes even the boys. I teach them that yeah friends will clown a boy virgin but why teach my daughter to keep her legs closed and not my boys? :smh:

Baisden's corny as shit, we know this already. LD pretty much summed it up, you're going against nature practicing celibacy. Physical interaction is a must, whether those that are voluntarily celibate choose to believe it or not.

Hmmm, interesting how most see it as going against nature...

I can't speak for myself, but I have a very close family member who has been celibate for a number of years now...big in the church now too. I understand where this person is coming from, particularly from a religious standpoint.

And, yeah, I have, at times, decided to not have sex because I didn't want to "chance" anything with a person I didn't feel could either do it to me good  or even didn't trust with my life or the life of an unborn baby

I guess my point was that we don't necessarily frown upon promiscuity in our community, but we frown upon celibacy...yet, our STD numbers are CRAZY these days... are we THAT primitive in nature that we can't say no to sex?!?

Religious celibacy is still an act against nature hence the resultant issues of sexual suppression which leads to sexual deviancy amongst religious practitioners like pedophilia.

What you're saying (in the highlighted) - that's just prudence not celibacy. But I'm sure you know that already.:)

I don't think anyone "frowns" upon celibacy per se. Sometimes it's just horny men/women that just catch feelings because the other person is holding out, that's all that is.

It has nothing to do with primitiveness. OK, perhaps you could link increased STD levels with promiscuity but I doubt you could make a correlation between lower levels of STD's and celibacy.

IMO

celibacy is a bad thing when you look at the big picture...our job on earth is to procreate...

the only way it might be a good thing is if you use it as a way to learn patience and disclipine

but then again, if everyone does that then the human race might die out...

CELIBACY TO A EXTENDED PERIOD IS NOT EVEN HUMAN.:smh:

I agree.

My kid brother doesn't consider vegetables food, he calls salad "what food eats"

When you get to a certain age, I think celibacy is a bad thing. Some people need that rush of chemicals to the brain like you need air to breathe. We as humans are animals, and we are the only ones that fuck for pleasure. Which means that we are suppose to fuck...don't fuck and you are missing one of the elements of life.

Is there something I'm missing about Baisden?

Wrong. Popular myth.

There's numerous very well established scientific documentations of other social animals that show various sexual behaviors peripheral to reproduction ranging from promiscuous monkeys that fuck around to ease stress and alleviate social conflict, bisexual seahorses, gay animals, masturbation etc.

It's a question of self-awareness, which we infer that other animals don't have, such that I can understand how the term "pleasure" might become the issue. As far as we know other animals are primarily driven by the biological instinct to propagate their genes and if it feels good when they do it, well, that kind of makes sense from an evolutionary standpoint which suggests that sex in animals is linked to a positive experience be it just to buss a nut or to make babies.

For example, flick your tongue a on a womans clit at the appropriate r.p.m. can make her cum in seconds but at the same time clitoral stimulation during sex in some animals have been shown to improve success in reproduction because it causes genital contractions which improves transportation of sperm.

There's a pretty comprehensive wiki article with mad citations about sexual behavior in animals. Look it up. It even talks about female porcupines that use sticks as improvised dildos. LOL.

Religious celibacy to me is retarded. Unless you never had sex to begin with or even just "gave your life to Christ" or whatever which is a starting over point. Anything other than that is dumb. What are you less religious once you break it?

Of course celibacy ins't a metric for religiosity or holiness. That's just daft.

As I understand it, Caflickaly speaking, the vow of celibacy that priests make is supposed to the epitome of the sacrifice one can make against ones carnal nature. But I still find that silly because as far as I know the only biblical account of celibacy, in the Old Testament, was where the prophet Jeremiah was told by God not to "marry" as statement to the people because he was about to destroy Jerusalem and babies would die. That's it.

Besides, celibacy, at least in the Caflik church is a matter of church law not "divine law", so technically it can be revised ... by the Pope I guess. :dunno:

To me celibacy is ok if you have a good reason to do it. People that I have known that have claimed to be celibate were full of shit and had bogus reasons for being that way.

I was celibate for a little over two years, and it was definitely by choice. I found that my life was simpler.

Sexual sin is the number one reason black people have so many social problems. It wasn't always this way.

I've been celibate before .. by choice .. and its hard. Anyone who does it and says its easy, is LYING!! but its not bad ... People who are celibate and look down at other people's sex life are bad...

I once read somewhere, no idea where, that animals that have sex for pleasure are the ones that can't lick themselves, and the two mammals who can't lick themselves are humans and dolphins.. I need to find the source

Whales, horses and elephants can lick themselves?
... and I'm not even gonna go there with the humans example

Interesting take. Care to elaborate a bit more on the correlation between social problems and sexual sin? And, what is your definition of sexual sin?

The sex I was having wasn't very good, and I wanted to see if I could live without it for a while. It was hard at times, but I don't think it was that bad.

I've been celibate for a years time, and the longer I was, the "easier it got." Meaning, I didn't miss it as much. It definitely gets harder when you're ovulating, but that's what sex toys are for

Thats a better reason than most I have heard. . . .I never look down on others for being celibate but I have just heard some crazy excuses. . . .I can understand that one.

So, what are good reasons, to you, for being celibate?

IMO good reasons are things like: gettin yourself together. . .or because you were goin for sex too fast and wanting to approach relationships differently. . .or because sex was leading to alot of problems. . .things like that. I just hate when people use some excuse like religion or spirituality but they doin shit like smoking weed everyday or drinking all the time but sex is the problem:confused:

Celibacy can also be a cover up for bad sex.

It usually is.

Why can't people just exercise some prudence? Self control?? :dunno:
