Religious celibacy is still an act against nature hence the resultant issues of sexual suppression which leads to sexual deviancy amongst religious practitioners like pedophilia.
What you're saying (in the highlighted) - that's just prudence not celibacy. But I'm sure you know that already.
I don't think anyone "frowns" upon celibacy per se. Sometimes it's just horny men/women that just catch feelings because the other person is holding out, that's all that is.
It has nothing to do with primitiveness. OK, perhaps you could link increased STD levels with promiscuity but I doubt you could make a correlation between lower levels of STD's and celibacy.
IMO
Sean69,
I'm really shocked by the number of generalizations you (and a few others) are throwing around regarding the subject of celibacy and as such, feel that it's time for me to give my own perspective on things.
In my humble opinion, celibacy is a very personal choice on the part of the practioner that is usually taken for very specific reasons.
Some choose this route for religious/faith based reasons and others may do so due to location, vocation or even health related reasons.
To fall back on the supposed "unnaturalness" of abstinence as a way of mocking celibacy is a juvenile to say the least and majorly disrespectful of the individuals who opt to walk that particular path.
In between relationships, I've gone for extended periods of celibacy as I've never been one to indulge in casual sexual encounters or one night stands willy-nilly and to be honest with you, one sometimes needs an extensive break from sex for the purpose of focusing on important shit that sometimes gets lost in the mix when ones whole attention is aimed at busting a nut.
Sex isn't just about procreation or carnal recreation.
It has a spiritual component to it that usually gets overlooked in the mad rush for physical gratification at all costs.
Peace.
