I officially have a problem with Chris Rock's movie "Good Hair"

Transparent, tasteless, odorless

Why do we keep putting the wrong spotlight on ourselves?

it's like we are prone to self-destruct.

Asians are having eye surgery, no documentary/movie

White girls are slutting out more than ever, no documentary/movie

To Catch a Predator, they got that shit cancelled with the quickness.

This hair issues is not a black woman issue.

It is a woman issue and as such he should have also focused on other groups but as usual its so easy to beat up on black people...........

gotta say I feel you a little bit...

not 100% b/c if this were an HBO doc or straight to DVD film, i don't think you would be that upset...

I'm not that comfortable w/it being a fucking theatrical release - but it is what it is...plus I'm holding off until I actually see it...

why do we? come on man this move was made by chris rock not the nation of black representatives

Kniccas are complaining about some shit they haven't even seen. Thats like me bitching about how much I hate spaceships.

A lack of introspection among other peoples means introspection or reflection by blacks is wrong?

It seems you'd have a more solid case for Asians or whites addressing those issues-- I've never heard of the Asian eye surgery thing-- than saying blacks need to shut up.

Maybe you're right that Rock should have included other groups of women in the discussion but it does seem black people get particularly beat up over hair texture, from the days of slavery when blacks were said to have wool and not hair to the current "nappy headed ho" era.

But what you call self-destruction, I call self-examination and I see nothing wrong with it. If other groups don't desire improved conditions, let them stay in the darkness.

- yeah but i won't lie, i was watching it on entertainment tonight and 2 white anchors were cracking jokes at the end talking about it was funny to watch

"you need some relaxer tom! nyuk nyuk!"

sorry man, that shit made me uncomfortable...chris rock may catch hell for this one...

I PERSONALLY HOPE THAT
HE CLOWNS SO BADLY THAT WOMEN REALIZE HOW UNNECESSARY
WEAVE REALLY IS AND EVOLVE TO WHERE THE SHIT IS OUTDATED AND
NO LONGER AN ACCEPTABLE CHOICE WHILE REALIZING
THE TRUE BEAUTY IN BEING MORE NATURAL.
GET AWAY FROM THE WHITE MANS IDEA OF WHAT BEAUTY IS
AND EMBRACE OUR NATURAL STATE AS BEAUTY.

I CAN TELL YOU THIS THERE ARE WOMEN
WHO ARE ADDICTED TO WEAVE AND SHIT LIKE IT.
MAYBE THIS WILL SERVE AS A SEED PLANTING MISSION
TO HELP THEM SEE THE TRUTH.

IM OPTIMISTIC.
BUT THINKS MOST OF IT
WILL FALL ON DEAF PERM FILLED EARS.:hmm:

kayanation "murse & sandals" wearin bitch boy who will never ever hold the Black bitch accountable for her fuckery, especially when it comes to hair.

Bringing to light(mainstream/white america) the stereotypes that come with natural hair is not a good thing?

i think kaya's point is its self examination in front of the world... we ALWAYS have to expose what we think..how we think and what going on in the mind of the black community...

Its the same issue with the State of the Black Union..

show me a time or air date of the State of the Asian Community or Latino or Italian and on and on...

NO ONE else openly broadcasts or airs their inner thoughts and gripes like black people do.

Some of you have been in the matrix so long, everything seems normal.

As i said:

This is NOT a black woman problem, it is a woman problem.

Tons of white women use extensions/weaves

But Rock knows better than to put them too in this movie........

I've thought that was stupid for a long time... When/where did he say he regretted it?

Yeah, was this in an article/interview?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niggas_vs._Black_People

The controversy caused by Rock's constant use of the word nigga led him to remove the piece from his act. In a 60 Minutes interview, Rock said, "By the way, I've never done that joke again, ever, and I probably never will. 'Cause some people that were racist thought they had license to say ******. So, I'm done with that routine."[2]

How, in 2009 with black people all over the world (or even, domestically, just across the US) are you supposed to address these issues in a private manner?

I think Bill Cosby had it right when he responded to criticisms that he was "airing dirty laundry" by saying it sounded like the mentality of a scared little child...

I don't know how Rock went about things in the movie, but, seeing as black people got a lot of these issues from white people in the first place (double consciousness), I don't see how they could be resolved privately. There's nothing wrong with educating white people, either...

Listen, man they don't here you.

LESS talk, more action.

We continually put ourselves up for ridicule.

This movie wasn't about the economics of hair.

This movie wasn't about fashion demands.

This movie is about making fun of a problem all women have and zeroing in on the black woman who he perceives to be the weakest link.

Don't worry, shit will come back to him just like it did Chapelle.

After the damage is done and the money is made then comes the epiphany

Educating white people?

Do you think this movie is about educating anyone?

Now every black woman will be under a spotlight.

i don't like this approach at all.

Maybe he could have shown the economics of the industry and how the Koreans have come to dominate and monopolize it.

But this? Dunno...............

GTFOH with that bullshit. White women don't perm their hair to be Black. The Black bitch perms her hair because she wants to be WHITE. That's why it's a problem and that's why the Black bitch needs to be exposed and ridiculed.

White women use flat irons to straighten their hair.

They want to look "more pretty", not look like another race of people.

Stop confusing body dysmorphic disorder of the CAC bitch with the racial self hatred of the Black bitch.

:confused::confused::confused:

now u are just saying some shit to be saying it...the percentage of white women who wear weaves and extensions is probably so low it's not even worth talking about let alone make a documentary for...

this movie's premise is 100% on point, black women need to see this..it won't change shit, but they need to see it..

What is your concern with black women anyway?

Well let me take that back before you get into one of your angry rants

THOUGHT should always be a prerequisite for action and dialogue/talk is a means of improving thought. "Less talk, more action" sounds good to many but is a recipe for disaster.

Rock has been doing this on a big stage for much longer than Chappelle and has been much more socially relevant in his comedy and overall. I think he's been stupid at times-- that black people vs niggas bit would be an example-- but this movie could be constructive. The audience for a documentary on the economics of hair probably wouldn't fill Chris Rock's house.

Maybe he could have been an economist. :dunno: He's a comedian... Even Michael Moore has comedic aspects to his documentaries; its the only way you can keep the interest of an audience nowadays.

I don't think you can fault him for putting black women under a spotlight as this is obviously a response to the Imus comments that became such a huge issue a couple of years ago.

I haven't seen the movie so I can't praise or condemn it, but I think one aim of it is to start a dialogue. As Imus demonstrates, the idea of this as simply an "in-house" discussion is unworkable-- whether its black people parroting stupid sentiments or white people voicing them, it is going to be a topic for as long as the idea exists. If the movie does nothing more than belittle the idea of "good hair" it could move some people past that stupidity and I think that would be a laudable result.
