yeah the wait can be crazy...but during ya wait just get in shape...take more test...if you are willing to travel do it...

shit i'm thinking about Los Angeles and toronto...both start at 50k....

yeah soome dept's pay real shitty....:smh:...I seen some that start around 28k....:smh:

damn in NO you have to pay for your CPAT...:smh:

any city its easier to be a cop...in BMORE you start at 44k...no college credits needed....the ppl hate you and what kind of dept just take any average joe and give him a gun and a badge...

no hate to cops....but you never here FF's leaving the dept to become something else...you work only 3-4 days if that....

hold ya head....take more exams...GOOD LUCK on both careers...

The main deterrent for New Orleans is the sub-20k starting pay rate. Fuck that shit. I'm a college graduate. I could make more just enlisting in the army as a grunt, and being a firefighter there.

That fucking wait is a beast, though. I seriously would try it if it wasn't for the 6months to a year you have to wait to get a fucking call back.

Was also thinking about becoming a Fed, but thier wait is insane as well...
Unless you want to be Border Patrol...they hiring like crazy.

honestly I don't work for the money when it comes to firefighting...but i work for anything starting below 35k....:smh:

how do you eat and pay bills....but they are alot of places hiring...that will pay you good....you should check them out....

i got on right before 9/11 hit so right after 9/11 thing happen it was like pussy explosion... i play bball in highschool and had groupies but it was nothing compared to the fire,police,ems groupies NOTHING!

i beat the turnpike up i was at every school wit some random chick on the reg... shyt was crazy and dangerous now that i look back on it

I'm i the gym hard right now.....alot of running...wieght lifting...

i also Box and do a lil' thai boxing...I want to start running 5 miles a day....i need to get my stamina up....

Even in the city of The Wire, your future career choice, is still filled with a lot of good ol' boys that dont think we belong, I used to be the only black guy on my crew, working in the hood. You can only imagine how much ass comes my way, Bitches love the unifom. Everybody likes the fire department:yes:

The Procedure Is Rare But There Are Other Things You Can Do B4 A Trach Is Needed.
$750 Is Good.
Fdny Does Not Have Ff/medic.
You Are Either A Ff For Fdny Or Paramedic For Fdny/ems.
Ff/medic May Come But That May Take A Long Time.
Other Services Have Ff/medic And Usually That Is An Upgrade With More Money.
 
I was looking thru some old pictures,and found this one of me in drill school doing the Pompier ladder.
A Pompier ladder as you can see is very thin...with a hook at the end of it.
They made us use this to climb six stories.

It works like this,you hook it into the floor above you,then straddle yourself in the window,and lift it to the floor above you...and continue,finally at the 6th floor you lock in and lean back.

This was done with no net or safety harness...

I assume it was done to test your upper body,fear of heights and your balls...

Everytime i see a pompier ladder (our musuem/training academy) im like THANK GOD we dont have to use thoese anymore. Also Years and years ago we had a big fire downtown and somehow they took like a 24' extention ladder to the top of a 75' arial ladder, somehow balanced it on the rungs and were able to save about 6 more people.

Like my dad used to say, He remembers when there were wooden ladders and steel men, now its steel ladders and wooden men.

Yeah....that's the only time I ever saw a Pompier ladder,drill school...because ladder trucks don't have them.Perhaps the rescue squad.

Naw we dont have them, only time ive ever even touched one was when we mounted one at the training school as a display. From what ive been reading yalls dept's got alot of problems. I know ours isnt perfect, but ive never had an issue that i couldnt forgot in 30 mins. Glad to see so many of us on here, i guess its all the spare time. lol

question when was it used....was it use as a way to escape a dangerous situation for a fire fighter?

To all the brothers looking to come in good luck and if you do make it do what I did my first few years.

Open your eyes--Read the smoke and flames,pay attention to what the old heads are doing it probably will save your ass one day.

Open your ears---listen to others politely even if you think they are full of shit. Wait a few years then tell them to go fuck themselves. I know this will be hard at times but fight the temptation.

Open your nose---sounds stupid but smells can give you a good idea on whats burning that you can't see yet.

Know your PPE inside and out, top to bottom,in the light and in total darkness

Stay low
Stay calm
Stay safe

PPE= Personal Protection Equipment---your SCBA(Self Contaiined Breathing Apparatus), turn out coat,pants,helmet, hood and boots

also Level A, Level B and Level C Ensembles and the selection criteria if your doing HazMat

know there limitations as if your life depends on it because it does.

Either private industry or the Feds with DHS, DOD, or DOE my first 3 targets. I submitted my resumes for several positions over $100,000 apparently from what I'm hearing I've got a good shot at a couple but I'm competing with internal candidates so we'll see what happens.

I don't believe so...as most trucks don't carry them.In fact the only time I ever heard of one being used was many years ago.I believe a New York jake used one to reach someone on a floor where the stick couldn't reach.

In Boston the only use for them is to test your balls in drill school.

Honestly i dont know, but i do know they were on the Ladder trucks, so they probably used them the same way we use extenstion ladders. Ill ask my old timer tommorow when i go to work.

Haz Mat?...good luck to you Bro....we use to have a 'Gumby' suit,hated it.

I loved being on a ladder truck as opposed to an engine...spent most of my time being the driver...or way back,the tillerman.Therefore spent much time up on the roof.
Which was cool...a lot of three-deckers in the city...nice flat roof,chop or saw a big hole,sit on your helmet and watch the fire and smoke vent out.
Then you went down into the building and everybody would be covered with shit:lol:but you were cool up on the roof...

But pitched roofs were a different story...as a lot of times you felts your balls burning when you have to shimmy out above the fire.

we had a roof fire the other night a pitch roof but flat underneath...our i.c fucked it up (imo) tho cuttin the roof start down the middle... it was obviously just on one side of the structure as soon as we cut that damn roof... rolling smoke was coming from all sides
