Oscar Nominations 2026

they rewarded the gimmick over raw skill - Delroy put on a clinic in Sinners

or these crackers really identified with Sean's character but missed the alegory of his being blind to classisim because he was fooled by distractions of patriotisim and race
If you told a whiteman you never seen godfather, Scarface, goodfellas he’d be like what you must be don’t like movies… now ask him has he ever seen new jack city, juice, boyz in the hood and he’d have a blank face and look at you like is he supposed to know these movie titles.. white people acknowledge their movies and only see the world through their eyes… sinners was just a bunch of gangster dancing/singing negros that fought vampires.. to them it wasn’t a big deal but some pale skin vets having trials and tribulations in their life now that meant more to them… this is why I try to tell black people about lots of cacs they only see through their eyes , that’s why whenever people bring up news articles, things in magazines I be like you know they not speaking for everyone just themselves, stop trying to connect with them

in Oscar culture it just wasn't Ryans turn - its Pauls turn because of the times he should have won dest director and best picture

in black culture - wy-pipo were not interested in givin best picture nor director to a black man for a movie that he will fully own one day

One Battle has some good moments and tells a good story with competent performances - its a good movie - but I can't quote one line in the movie

Sinners is a great film... tight writing and next level performances
1986 all over again

not really - Color wasn't black behind the camera - and Spielberg was THE man

but even his name couldn't stop a shutout

vs here MBJordan is the first black actor I know of to get best lead as his first Oscar and they snatched up 2 awards that many were betting against Sinners getting Cinematography and Screenplay

I firmly believe that securing the Best Picture award would have had a profound and lasting impact on the careers of everyone involved in that project. Every actor, writer, sound engineer, and producer would have been associated with a Best Picture, which would have significantly enhanced their recognition and opened up new opportunities for them. Even if Ryan Coogler hadn’t won for Best Original Screenplay, simply winning Best Picture would have undoubtedly benefited him in all the relevant categories.

Penn's body of work as an actor now sits among other Hollywood elites. He's one of only a handful of stars who've won three Oscars for acting, such as Jack Nicholson, Meryl Streep, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Ingrid Bergman.

There was a big discourse on all that all over. Some got it and some didn't some deliberately glossed over it. His character seemed to be the one everyone recognized which felt intentional. But I think Penn DID what he was brought in to do. And he did it well.

The daughter was really good and got kinda ignored. Del Toro was good. Leo I think was really good too but the role / performance kinda got lost

Taylor. Well as you probably saw white men seemed to love it and many women especially black women were torn - Hated or loved it. A whole lot of think pieces about motherhood, femininity, gender roles, interracial relationships, sex, family dynamics, etc etc.

I never read the book but apparently PTA wanted Taylor specifically to play this VERSION of the original character.

The discourse was more about the characters actions decisions and motivations and not really her performance. At least from what I saw and read.
