I first hit 2 plates somewhere in my mid 20s and can still do 2 plates to this day at 54yrs old.
I've always wanted to hit 3 plates but never quite got there, and the older i get, the less I care about the numbers.
most workouts i tend to go up to 265-285 and pyramid back down
Every few weeks i'll bench heavy just to 'test myself' and see where I'm at.
fact is, i've always been more of a dumbbell bench presser
Have not pushed up 100lb dumbbells in over a year, yet i know for a fact i can still hit the 100s for 2-3 reps.
that part about developing your back and triceps is spot on. Bench press is not just a chest exercise.
