The standard rate at Black barbershops is now $35-$40

The market is the market, I guess. Now way I am supporting a barber to the tune of $50-$100/hr. Black people and their hair versus investing :smh:

That's more than a damn teacher in almost all cities, and it's in cash.

Yes it relative.. actually the barber in suburban and rural areas should be charging more, while the barber in the metro area should be charging less. Why? Because the barber in the metro area has an abundance of customers, a well as competition.
While the suburban and rural areas lack as much competition and customers.

Also you have to take into account the demographics of the neighborhood, city, etc... your customer base are at.

It's not a one size fits all.

i disagree from my experience. In SF there all the 3-4 black barber shops per neighborhood, rent is 2-3x higher in the city than the burbs. it’s waaay more competition for customers and location, the cost of living is 2-3x higher, and the income is 2-3x higher. So idealistically the barbers in SF should be charging 120 a head, but realistically it’s settled 50-65. Where as the barbers in Hayward or Vallejo 30 min out the city charge 30-40 a head and it’s waaay less competing shops. It actually has a reverse effect of what you are thinking… but I’ve been one of the top barbers in my city my whole career so prices don’t really apply to me lol

To put shit into context. If you’re slow ass barber and it takes you an hour to cut one head(Not realistic, but let’s still say) Let’s also say 8 cuts a day equals an 8-hour work day. If he only works 5 days a week and charges $40 per cut average. That’s $83,500 a year. I know there are chair rental costs , supplies etc, but even if you spend $20k a year on that (which I doubt, these dudes aren’t making a shitty living.

that depends on the area because in the bay, you will be beyond broke.

My shop went up about $10 more during covid when they started using theCut app. Some of the barbers are now charging $15 more, so they’re pushing $40 per cut. Guess I’m still lucky at $30.

Clearly man. Let’s no use extremes to justify these bullshit price. Barbers been cutting hair all over the country for generations. What did they do before because I wasn’t going to NY back in the day and paying 3 times more than Detroit cause I’m in the city.

Cuts at my spot just went up to $55. It's $45 for the cut and an extra $10 if you want a line up. I'mma stick w/ him though, since we been rocking since 2012.
If you don't show up for a while, will he call you and ask where you've been?
Is he as loyal to you as you are to him?
My old barber used to check in with all his regulars periodically to keep the rapport.
But most barbers don't have that level of customer service.

And not for nuthin us barbers don’t have 401ks n retirements, medical, dental, disability, pto, none of the shit that comes wit a regular job. So remember we gotta sit money aside for all that shit. So don’t look at the gross and think about the actual income. And majority of us got a hustler mentality, but me, i refuse to be dyin behind a chair

In my military days I used to get a skin fade once a week. Since retirement and these high ass prices, I said "fuck that!" Now only I on get one once a month.

I get the hustle but don’t respect it; mainly because of how high they went. I’ve been cutting my hair since my teen years so I’m pretty damn good now. I have two sets of clippers, T-edgers, two sets of guards, straight razor and massive hand mirror. Takes about an hour. I only did it when I didn’t feel like sitting in the shop for hours. Once my shop went for $20 to $50 overnight I was done. Anything higher than that better because shampoo, cut, beard and a free Reese’s cups on the way out. I’ll be damned if I pay these $80 prices. For that I want zero wait, less conversation, the music I want playing, and no arguing with other barbers about the game. Focus, get me out fast. I want a check list like Uber.
:roflmao: Windows down, don’t talk to me, music low, only rider, candy in cup holder.

in average, how long doe your barber take to cut your hair? no chit chat, no bs... just the hair cut

I'm in and out in like 15 minutes. Especially since he's gone to appointment only and there ain't a shop full of ninjas talkin about nothing to distract him.

damn... in Paris, any respectable barbershop will make sure to groom you for at least 30 minutes and charge no more than 15 euros

My barbershop just went up to $25 for a standard haircut.
I always tip $5 on top of the service, but I can't do it anymore.
There's just no way to justify paying $30 for a taper fade.
I can't believe it costs this much to get a haircut now. :smh:

Since I don't know how to cut my own shit, I'd been looking for alternatives.
So a friend of mine told me he goes to the barber college near his house to get his haircuts for $5.
He said they give fire ass haircuts and most of the students have been cutting hair for years, but just going to school to do it LEGALLY.
So I took his advice and went to one too.
The haircut I got was actually better than my "go-to" barber for the last five years.
Not to mention I saved $20.
No talking on the cell phone, random arguments, smoke breaks or walking next door to the store.
I was in and out.
I'm not going to my barbershop ever again.
Yeah, this shit has gotten out of hand

Haven't been in a barber shop for at least 20 years. FOH.

I'm glad I have a job that doesn't give a fuck about your cut or your facial hair, and if they do it's because of H2S and at that point everyone is rocking the magic Johnson booty face.

everything goes up cause inflation but the barber still supposed to be charging $7 cause that’s what u paid in 79… FOH lol
It’s not that is nigs ain’t trying to pay $5000 + a yr for a simple cut and shaved face..especially when clippers is $100 or less.. so it goes do I save over $5000 a yr cutting my own hair , pay the 5000, or come to some kinda middle ground where the customer don’t feel like he’s getting raped or where the barber is starving.. if you can make 5,000 a yr per customer more power to you..as far as me I been team do it yourself since 96

^^^ He's right you know ^^^
(Morgan Freeman Voice)

Everybody can't cut their own hair. I know it simple for those who can but not for those who can't.
I used to pay around $20 for a cut with tip included for a walkin. I now pay $30 every month (or twice depending) for an appointment (which I book online and choose my time) where when I walk in it's just me and the barber waiting. My cut last about half hour and I'm out. Time is money...

Now if a mutherfucker is charging a hundred dollars? I'll go back to home barbershop like the old days✌

Hol up bruh. He charges EXTRA for the lineup? So if you only pay $45 you have a fresh cut but a raggedy hairline? That shit sounds like highway robbery.

I aint stepped in a barbershop in damn near 10 yrs (shoutout male pattern baldness), but the lineup was always a part of the haircut
