Here is what I think the problem is…these barbers see their customers with nice cars and houses and they want to live like them. My thing is: if you want to live like them then you need to either find a good side hussle or own your own shop. These barbers see other people shinning and want to take a shortcut not understanding the time, the education, and the accumulation of experience that it took for their customers to get to that place. Shit, some brothers are retiring after putting 20 years in the military and are young enough to get their pension from the military and still get a job paying 6 figures (that is very normal in The DMV). It’s shit like this these barbers don’t understand. There are no shortcuts to success.
The reason why I feel this way is because my barber from 12 years ago would always make side comments about what I had and he wasn’t the only one. What he didn’t understand is that I was married in a 2 income household pulling 200k plus. He didn’t understand the blood, sweat, and tears that went into that. All he could do is compare himself, which is stupid, and like I said he wasn’t the only barber I knew with that bullshit.
And to top it all off, he was a terrible barber! The bama wouldn’t cut my hair with the grain. He wanted to cut against the grain because he could be done faster. It’s shit like that! Learn your craft well and build.
What’s already happening is that these Vietnamese and folks from other cultures are starting to cut black hair and the charge a whole lot less. They’re going to price themselves out and lose loyalty with these bullshit charges. The rent for a lot of these places haven’t even changed that much and booth rent ain’t went up that much higher either to justify the bullshit prices they charge. Ok.That’s my rant.
