I am a US ARMY Vet.
I will tell you that a large majority of these militia cats were in the military. But they weren’t Combat Arms (Infantry, Armor, Artillery).
They usually come from logistics like truck drivers, cooks, clerical, medical or other jobs that kept them from seeing combat or getting in harms way.
Or they were in the NAVY stationed on a Destroyer in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
The closest they seen anything related to combat was basic training.
And during their time of service, the only time they touched their M-16 was their annual marksmanship test shooting a couple of rounds and lying to get Expert status. Their assigned M-16 mainly stayed locked up in the arms room.
Anybody who was Combat Arms and has seen actual combat. When they get out and come home, they don’t want anything in their home to remind them what they experienced on that battlefield.
They keep whatever mementos they have locked up in a box stored in the attic. Out of sight. Out of mind.
