SCOTUS extends stay on SNAP benefits for now, impacting millions

The fight over SNAP funding took on fresh urgency this week, prompting Supreme Court intervention

The Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to extend its temporary stay of a lower court order that the Trump administration immediately pay the full Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for the month of November, delivering a near-term win to the administration, just hours after it appealed the matter to the high court for emergency intervention.

Trump officials had urged the Supreme Court in a supplemental brief Monday afternoon to keep in place an emergency stay handed down by Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson last week. The new action keeps the stay in place through 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13.

U.S. Solicitor General D. John Sauerhad asked the Supreme Court Monday to grant an emergency stay ordering them to resume full SNAP payments before the end of the government shutdown in Congress...

What Democrats say they won in the 43-day government shutdown

Emotions are raw after eight senators voted to end the shutdown, but Democrats say they demonstrated an ability to take on Trump and shifted the conversation to health care.

Democrats shut down the federal government to secure a key demand: extending health care subsidies for millions of Americans.

After a more than 40-day standoff, they threw in the towel — with no guarantee from Republicans that they would agree to renew the expiring Obamacare tax credits.

Progressive activists and their Democratic allies in Congress, who had wanted the party to fight on longer, decried it as a monumental “cave” to an authoritarian in Donald Trump.

But others in the party see a silver lining in the six-week standoff. The eight Senate Democrats who bucked their own leadership and negotiated an end to the longest shutdown in American history said the bipartisan deal protects federal workers who had been laid off during the shutdown — at least temporarily.

More importantly, they said, the grueling shutdown that is expected to end in the coming days has “crystallized” the battle lines in the next major political fight over health care that is sure to spill into the 2026 midterm election year. It also underscored Trump’s cruelty, Democratic leaders argued, as the White House fought to halt food stamp payments to states during the shutdown...

So in 2 month it’s a small Chance this can be done againw

When you get a chance check out this youtube vid
He breaks it all down
More than likely, another shutdown is coming January 30th
The only reason why this one ended was because.....politicians had holiday vacation travel plans
And the TSA airport foolishness was a bad look for them

USDA head says ‘everyone’ on SNAP will now have to reapply

BY ASHLEIGH FIELDS
11/14/25

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins on Thursday said the Trump administration is planning to have all Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) beneficiaries reapply for the program due to alleged fraud.

The secretary said after receiving data on SNAP recipients from 29 red states that “186,000 deceased men and women and children in this country are receiving a check.”

“Can you imagine when we get our hands on the blue state data what we’re going to find?” she asked during a Thursday appearance on Newsmax’s “Rob Schmitt Tonight.”

“It’s going to give us a platform and a trajectory to fundamentally rebuild this program, have everyone reapply for their benefit, make sure that everyone that’s taking a taxpayer-funded benefit through SNAP or food stamps, that they literally are vulnerable, and they can’t survive without it,” she added.

Every state has a periodic recertification process that requires SNAP or food stamp recipients to update their whereabouts and earnings, according to the Department of Agriculture (USDA). Most municipalities require updated data every six to 12 months…

We can afford to bailout Israel yearly, send 40 billion to Argentina, waste hundreds of millions on ballroom, but in the "biggest economy in the world" "the most powerful country" they don't have a single cent to spare to keep it's citizens healthy and out of poverty. Pathetic excuse for humans roam the lands of this country and they've been a cancer since they reached these shores.

They just want slavery to return.

"At the same time as the government shutdown disrupted the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, states began implementing an expansion of the program’s work requirements as mandated in the Republicans’ “big, beautiful bill,” which was signed into law by President Donald Trump this summer.

Under the GOP package, more food stamp enrollees will have to work, volunteer or participate in job training for at least 80 hours a month or they will only be able to receive benefits for three months out of every three years.

The expanded work requirements will result in 2.4 million fewer Americans receiving food stamps benefits in an average month over the next decade, according to a Congressional Budget Office analysis. This includes 300,000 families with children.

Recipients who don’t meet the requirement will likely start losing their benefits in March, but the timing will depend on where they live and when they must recertify their eligibility for food stamps.

Republicans have long wanted to beef up SNAP’s existing work requirement, which used to apply to beneficiaries ages 18 to 49 who did not have disabilities or dependent children. The GOP increased the age threshold to 54 as part of the 2023 debt ceiling agreement.

The GOP spending bill further broadened the work requirement to include recipients through age 64 and parents of children ages 14 through 17. Veterans, people experiencing homelessness and former foster youth are now also subject to the mandate.

I wish we were still shutdown, some people could have gone without thanksgiving dinner this year :dunno:

Its funny how they convince enough people that certain other people are stealing government benefits and getting rid of it is the best move........ while these MOFOs (politicians) pocket the funds for the benefits.

’Welfare Over Fathers’
The Welfare Revolt
1967 Documentary

This documentary looks at the faces within the welfare rolls, and echoing them, finds defeat, degradation, and "an aura of illegitimacy" engendered by "cumbersome and paternalistic" rules. Welfare is treated as a "privilege" rather than as a "right" recipients feel. There is not enough money for a decent existence -- each request for money to clothe a child is an act of self-abasement. Work is discouraged, since a woman can keep only a negligible share of her earnings while she remains on welfare.

And, in the case of deserted or unmarried women with dependent children there is almost no chance of a decent relationship with a man, because the system permits that an apartment to be searched at any time of the day, and that she be deprived of her welfare check if a man (even the children's father) is found on the premises.
