This is a really important point. Republicans learned a lot from the Nixon era. Roger Ailes's whole blueprint for Fox and managing the narrative was born directly out of his experience working for him during Watergate. Meanwhile, Dems are living in a fantasy reality where Republicans aren't constantly winning the war of shaping public opinion and where they need to walk on eggshells to avoid looking overly partisan or risk losing ground. It's infuriating.

There's almost no doubt that the Senate would punt on this but the impeachment process has it's own merits beyond that.

i think this why.... There are a ton of redacted named at the bottom of this thing that were referred out.. Also why he Specifically referred The Cohen matter cause it came up from....

He was still limited in what leads he could go after... He could go after matters that arose that were related to his investigation of Russia interference and any possible campaign ties... But he could just say... dedicate the entire staff to just going after the Trump the person and crimes related to him personally.. I think that's what he meant..

Right off the bat, the article said impeachment will reign him in. A trump that has been impeached and survived would be completely unleashed. What will Dems do? Impeach him again?
The thought this will cost him votes is misguided. Right now, this minute, Fox News has labled the mueller report released today as a full exoneration of Trump. During the impeachment hearings they would make him a martyr. And those guys don’t watch CNN or MSNBC. The believe both are fake news from the bottom of their hearts. And they believe anythin Fox News says and only Fox News.
Any Republican defending Trump will be a hero.
On the other side, Dems think impeachment means removal.
So after he’s impeached and giving his “I’ve been found completely innocent - again” speech the Dem base will be wondering how he’s still in office after being impeached and the dems in Congress having shot their biggest cannon at Trump and failed will be completely neutered. They’ll have no more arrows in the quiver.
Then in 2020 you’ll have a Republican base energized as fuck and a dem base that has been promised by liberal media and leaders that marching in the streets and impeaching, and mueller would remove Trump from office and none of them did. That dejection might depress dem enthusiasm.
That’s literally the best chance for Trump to win again.

I don’t see why you want to hand him a not guilty decision on a platter.
Basically impeachment means you allow Mitch McConnell to give him a clean record. Not guilty on all counts.
And you can’t run on “but, look at all the things he did” during the election because he’ll have a not guiltu full exoneration. By impeaching Dems take the mueller report completely away as an issue to compaign on.
This is the point I was trying to make also Lawrence O’Donnell said the same thing I said about impeachment also the calendar is too short right For the Democrats to do anything because by the time you get to the full impeachment it will be election time. Also one correction Fox News is not completely on board with the exoneration. What Democrats can do is beat the Republicans on top of the head with this report until election time.

I saw that earlier. That's a huge claim. Pretty much indicating the limited scope of his investigation didn't allow him to uncover the obvious other crimes by Trump.
His base is coming out regardless. It's about the Dems getting their base out and then showing all the fringe voters that we have a real criminal in the Oval Office. Not impeaching because you're worried about it inspiring the Trumpsters is short-sighted and weak.

Unless they know 100% that they actually can impeach him then you can't go that direct route. They're very unlike to get the needed votes to do something like that.

What's crazy is that how much of all of this was discussed by the MSM already.
The GOP has created a world where "attempted murder" doesn't exist. Intent, orders, etc don't matter if you don't accomplish your explicit objective on that specific action. Intention and consistency don't matter if you fail. They're completed manipulated what obstruction means at this point.
