They pay more based on amount but not equal percentage wise . A person worth 10 million only paying 10% tax is still 100k in taxes . Of course they pay “more” than a person making 30k paying 28%. all poor people are paid via wages / salaries - earned income )

theoretically to increase capital gains taxes reduces investments and incentivises the rich to keep their money out of the United States

I used the term "Rich" because it was said that this idea makes sense because the "Rich" aren't paying taxes. The truth is that the "Rich" are paying taxes. An example is used of Warren Buffet. Lets look into his specifically and compare it to Vicious paying 14K from 28K.
I couldn't find current numbers but according to the linked article, in 2015 Buffett paid just under 2 million in Federal income taxes compared to your 14K. He also contributed close to 3 Billion in charity in 2015. How is that him not paying his taxes?

I don't disagree that our tax code is flawed. It is way too complicated. Instead of people having different rates based on income with complicated write offs,different rates for different types of income(capital gains vs earned income), and various "loopholes" there should be a flat tax rate for everyone based on total income. With a Flat Tax, the more money someone makes, the more they will pay in taxes anyway.

Now on to Socialism. I asked what countries improved because of Socialism. As expected, the same Scandinavian countries were used. The thing is, those countries were wealthy when they were Capitalist countries. Now their GDP and economic growth rates have lowered. They also pay 55% in taxes. Someone making 50K in the US has a far greater chance of making 100K or being a millionaire in the US than they would in any of those countries. All things being equal.


Now on to Rent Control.
Rent Control doesn't work. Ciities with rent control have higher rents than cities that don't. Let me give my personal example:
I own an Apartment building in a heavily gentrified area of Oakland. Luckily I purchased it during the downturn but when i got it I had units vacant and the other renters were paying dirt cheap rent. I was losing money with the idea of it being an investment that would pay off. No government assistance and all risk. The purchase was a shortsale because the previous owner (a sista) was losing money and wanted to avoid a Foreclosure. Again, no government assistance available to her.Then slowly the market changed and the area became a desirable place for many to live. I had people beating down my door for my vacant units and willing to pay higher rents as the market dictated. With the idea of being "anti gentrification" I ultimately chose 2 black tenants over the white applicants who were willing to pay more rent. At the time it didn't seem like a big deal but with Rent control, their rents can only be raised roughly 2% a year and because of Rent Control, they are not going to move ever. This is a difference of thousands a month.Going forward, because of rent control, i'm forced to charge the maximum rent possible because I don't have the flexibility of ever raising it more than 2% whether the market dictates it or not.

guess how many major corporations are exempt from state and municipal taxes nationwide
guess how many companies are actually subsidised by federal funding - and I'm not talking the 2009 bailouts...
total farm subsidies- paying farmers not to grow specific crops, are many times higher than public assistance and medicaid budgets
Consider from Amazon to Exxon Mobile and Boeing to JP Morgan Chase-
on the whole the Fortune 5000 receive more in subsidies than welfare recipients

These companies you mention are from BIG money industries with a lot at stake - they spend MILLIONS on corporate lobbying - so people like Kamala Harris can kick them back their subsidies. So this circles right back to the politicians.

The majority of businesses in America are small businesses, people with a handful, or even one employee. They don't have offshore accounts, or politicians in their pockets. Just regular folks with a product or service to sell.

"Big money" is killing small business- its why I mentioned agriculture - from the small family farmer to tobacco and soy giants - top to bottom its all government welfare to maintain stable pricing that evolved into something worse for us but good for those in that sector. vs Small business its the opposite -federal subsidies and deregulation of "Big money" companies are killing small businesses

Intrinsically - as we transition into a mostly service economy- while simultaneously continuing mass deregulation of the past 3 decades -the majority of business in the country has been leaving behind the "small" business
Most business is no longer local, no more small / community savings and loans banks - no more family owned grocery stores, mom n pop hardware, general goods grocery, no more community based media outlets, small manufactures from lamps to furniture etc, brick and mortar storefronts and malls are dying - being devoured by national / international retailers or online retailers- even construction and trade based companies are being acquired pushed out by large conglomerates

30 years ago our national economy could survive losing Sears or an investment/ commercial bank - now if any of the Fortune 100 fails it pulls down multiple client businesses/ vendors( it gets much worse if the business in question is a bank)
pulling our national economy in to a deep recession or depression - this would not have been the case in the 80s 70s 60s or 50s - when our economy was manufacturing based and very localized (community banks financed local businesses much more heavily than national banks do today)
