Netflix: Luke Cage Season 2 (Discussion Thread) - Spoilers Approved (Update Cancelled!!)

SOUNDTRACK is fire...

the way KRS exited the stage when they started shooting....LOL

Between this and that scene when dude tried to sue Cage for 100,000 and how he talking about the pain and suffering Cage caused him had me howling laughing.

Also, Cage telling dudes to tell Claire that she could leave before she got to running her mouth was a good touch.

Misty and Tilda a were playing hot potato with my emotions. I felt like a kid again waiting for glimpses of ass.

Just finished the season.

Woodard is a seasoned actress. Been in the game for over 30 years and it shows. From broadway plays, to featured films and TV shows; her performance really dwarfs everyone else on that show. She is a treasure that will likely continue to be as long as she gets roles.

Nandi was a horrible cast. Not sure what they was trying to do with her. Other than her good looks, she was pointless to have around. Bad actress and typical light skin pretty face. The relationship between her and Knight was so absurdly forced, I got annoyed about it seeing it.

Speaking of Knight, what is there not to love about her? Beautiful woman. I enjoyed her fight scenes. She fought with purpose. She does need to tune up her acting. She can be unbelievable at times.

I’m not going to through every character.

Love the Jamaicans. I don’t know any personally so I can’t speak on the accents that people complain about, but they were the most believable performances next to Woodard.

So props to the others for a fairly decent job. Bushmaster was a cool character. Enjoyed Shakir’s performance as him.

Luke Cage is a terrible hero. I could go on forever on how he is a constant fuckup. As a matter of fact, I don’t even consider him a hero. Probably more of an anti-hero. His poor decision making and constant need to save Mariah led to so many deaths. He has too many internal conflicts. No sense of what is “right” as he mentions so often. Cage is the true example of “when meaning well goes wrong.”

Cage probably got one more season left and that’s a big maybe for the 3rd. The writing was all over the place. Lots of loop holes and forced scenes. I’d loved to see a third season, but I worry that it’s going to fall short with all the best actors gone.

Overall, I like the first half of season 1 better than the first half of season two. I like the 2nd half of season 2 better than the second have of season 1.

you just described every one of the "Defenders" I get that they are trying to give these "Heroes" some range and depth but GADDANM let these people be superheroes for a change.... Just like i get tired to DC characters always talk that I don't kill shit. It's a trope that's been old.

They are really trying to humanize these folks. Make them seem like they have regular people problems. And for some reason everyone around them understand they are not regular except for them.

In Luke Cage instances, you have pops, Clair, Bobby Fish, his father, and even Bushmaster telling him that he is more than just a regular person and how he needs to address himself.

Luke’s internal conflicts is wild because he is unable to see clarity in his errors.

The final scene when Knight was looking at what Luke was becoming was realization that she has enabled him. She was blinded by Luke’s vigilante behavior.

Arrow used to be really good, but I stopped watching it after he stopped killing people. I believe I stopped watching in season 3, and up to that point it was really good

Luke Cage’s Focus on Families Gives Season Two a Big Upgrade

i'm glad they didn't kill off Bushmaster...he is too good of a nemesis/anti-hero...to kill off so early in the show....and the actor that played him did an outstanding job....i hope they take the same approach with Night Shade (Tilda) as well....and all other future villains...
Co-sign 100%!!! :yes::yes:

Agreed. Also, I really loved the role that Reg E. Cathy played this season, as Luke's Father: James Lucas.

There were 2 key speeches Reg gave in Episode 2.... Which proved to be absolutely prophetic, by the end of the whole season.
And they BOTH applied to Bushmaster, directly.

The 1st speech was about Hate.
In episode 2, Reg E. Cathy said: “Hate only wears you down…it does not wear down your enemy.”

The 2nd speech was when Claire walked into Luke's father's church during his sermon at the end of Episode 2.

This is when Luke's father is telling his congregation about the Native American parable of a boy and his grandfather.
The grandfather tells the boy of 2 wolves that live within us, that are in a constant struggle.

One wolf is good, it represents humility, kindness, and benevolence... while the other wolf is evil.... and represents anger, pride, and ego. The boy asks his grandfather: "Which wolf will win?" :dunno: and his grandfather replies wisely.... “It's the one you feed.”

The whole way this scene played out was priceless. Claire was sitting silently in the back of the church listening intently, with the cuts between the other events unfolding around Harlem & Brooklyn.

These 2 speeches absolutely summed up Bushmaster's entire story arc. But since these 2 speeches happened so early in the season... It really didn't hit me until I went back and re-watched Episode 2. :dunno:

Bushmaster constantly FED his own inner "2nd Wolf". Plus, his anger at the Stokes family, combined with his pride & ego over being Harlem's "Chosen One"... never allowed him to ever stop his mission of trying to topple & kill Mariah.

Thus, by the end of the whole 2nd season... we see a badly injured Bushmaster returning alone to Jamaica... because his Hate only wore HIM down to the point of defeat... but it never wore down his enemy, Mariah Stokes.

That was just brilliant.
That was one of my favorite parts of this entire season.

Yo.... Give Alfre Woodward an award already, had me hating and sympathizing with her crazy ass.

Mustafa Shakir was fantastic as Bushmaster too... I was rooting for this nigga harder than Cage's square ass lol. Fun season, they got a lot right. The music was incredible. Fucking incredible! From Kingfish Ingram and Stephen Marley to Rakim and KRS (not to mention the amazing original music courtesy of Ali Shaheed and Adrian Younge)... shit was a tour de force for real

Can't wait for more dope black content.... I feel like we're in a renaissance right now.

Mariah mentioned how strange it was that Tilda called her "mother", and after calling for her lawyer to prepare her will - do y'all think she suspected that Tilda (spoilers :D) poisoned her?

Completely agree

Can someone explain to me what this ending was .. It went over my head .

In Luke’s elementary mind, he believes that the only way to bring peace to Harlem is to be King of Harlem. He paid all the mob bosses a visit and convinced them to stop selling drugs on his side and if they didn’t he would make sure to disrupt their operations.

Mariah pretty much convinced Luke as well that he can keep Harlem safe and Shades had a similar sentiment because they both have history with Cage. The other bosses didn’t know how disruptive Cage was. Shades also pointed out that Luke was becoming colder and more direct, which is the gateway to the path Cottonmouth and Mariah took. Hence why both Mariah and Shades think he is fit for the job.

By Mariah giving the club to Cage in her will, Cage now uses it to ‘oversee’ Harlem. Now he is dealing with gangsters to try and keep the city safe.

But obviously Luke doesn’t see the corruption involved because he think what he is doing is right. And Misty Knight senses this as well at the end.

So basically, Luke is using his powers to do what he think is right by replacing Mariah in the club and being controlling of the other mob bosses.

see i COMPLETELY understood THAT

I want to know how did he say NO and then all of sudden he is the boss???

Did we IMAGINE that?

Did he say NO in his own mind?

Did he say NO and THEN change his mind?

He did say no. But I guess he thought about it and how he could enforce the rules, then decided to accept.

he was boss long before he said "no"

the minute he restored the wall around Harlem he was defacto king
thats why the kid kicked him out of the barber shop after Luke told him what went down

Also pay attention to when Sugar started shadowing Luke... it started sometime after Luke told Sugar we need to talk about this king of Harlem stuff - an ep or 2 before Luke started visiting mob bosses

yeah I got all that..

but SPECIFICALLY

when the LAWYER read he WILL and told him he owned the club

didn't Luke turn around AND TELL HIM NO?

OK cause I thought I was losing it...

every time I mentioned that no one said anything!

I do NOT like that

that was poorly done.

You gotta indicate to audience either it a subliminal thing, crisis of conscience or a time lapse SOMETHING.
Cause he said NO

and then they commenced to show him officially taking over.

He did say no.

But Shades and Mariah used reverses psychology on Luke’s weak ass. Basically told him to used his power to eliminate the mobb bosses or at least keep them at bay. This is a CLEAR bidding for the devil.

Shades and Mariah knew that Harlem Paradise was the Mecca of Harlem and it must continue. Harlem Paradise has this energy power when standing at the top as the overseer of Harlem.

Luke is a very weak minded hero. Two seasons of it.

YOU guys have broken that down MASTERFULLY.

My issue is with the writing and direction of that PARTICULAR sequence.

I didnt like having the audience SEE and HEAR him say NO

and then go right into him taking over...

the rhythm was OFF

NOW they rushing to finish?

they dragged 13 episodes outta 9/10 episodes worth of material.

they could have worked that out better.

Damn...... it just hit me;

between Kilmonger actually change the hero's perspective

and Bush-master getting to go back to Jamaica

Marvel's black villains scored double wins:cool::cool:

Marvel has this bad habit of killing off their villans both good and bad - I am glad Bushmaster didn't die and I am also glad he doesn't consider Luke Cage as a mortal enemy - adversary yes and as he said over and over, they could have been and possible in the future, friends.

I just realized that we can be in the mix for a battle of New York between Kingpin and Luke Cage with Daredevil going have to go after both of them. If Netflix Marvel go that route in a Defenders crossover - it will be worth going through a lot of bad moves - or instead of Daredevil going after him, even better the Punisher.

Now that I think of it, the fact the Judas Bullet no longer can kill him may be a foreshadowing to Punisher and him figuring a way to take Cage out.

Yeah Netflix, I see you
