Mostly offshore Exploration, field construction and completions. Dealing with ROV's I've worked in our manufacturing, Technical and Installations. Seen some crazy shit too.
I was here during this:

Long story short most offshore jobs go through an agency or company (Halliburton, Slumberger, Mi Swaco etc) The client pays them, and they either give you a day rate or salary.
Example, in the Gulf of Mexico the going day rate for a ROV Technician is around $1200 a day. Supervisor $1500, Superintendent $1800.
My company was only paying about $230 a day for Techs and keeping the rest. That's shit pay, but most people live local and 40- 60K a year for a guy living in a trailers is good for him. Let him make 100K and he's sucking the company's dick.
That was way to shitty to me so I switched international where you get a real fucking paycheck for living half your life on a floating bomb. Laughing at these scary ass CaC supervisors afraid of brown and black people existing on 1/3 the actual rate instead of leaving the safety of Amerikkka.
Anyway, the Ghanaian cats were only making about $800 a month, while the agency was stealing the rest. They found out what the Expats make (Almost that much a day) and they shut that shit down. The OIM was a racist controlling type of CAC. Kind of dude that would kill the internet for everyone so that he could stream YouTube and shit. Real douche bag shit cause we couldn't even email the office or do time sheets and daily reports.
He went to the guys and told them to "Man the fuck up and get that ass to work"
The Brothers said "nah" and started cutting up coveralls to make war bandana's and shut that bitch down. His scared ass ran to the galley and gathered all the knives, went to his room and locked the elevators, leaving the rest of the CAC's to fend for themselves.

They was spooked as fuck, talking about "What we gonna do?!?!"
I was like, "What do you mean WE?" I was hella cool with the brothers cause I never treated them like inferiors, engaged and spoke with them everyday, ate the same food as them, with them instead of the CAC food the expats ate. Treated them with respect.
I was so glad, cause they shut down the choppers and said to the white man, if you want to come negotiate with us, take a boat like we are forced too. Then they went to the cooks and said "Don't serve these bitch's nothing"

They had already hit ya boy with peanut butter, crackers and snacks so I was cool. The shit went on for a couple of days and they finally agreed to a pay hike and some back money. I wish they would have held out for more, but the oil field was in decline and most of them had wives and children. They are lucky this wasn't Nigeria cause a few of them would have gotten fucked up. The brothers there didn't want a blood bath, just fair pay.
I got paid

to watch the tables turned on all these colonizers with delusions of grandeur. Nothing is funnier to see them squirm and try and be buddy buddy with me as I walked around that ship free as a bird.
It's so funny cause these same southern CAC's are all anti union and are getting fucked, and the African man had the sense to stand up and seize control of the operation to get better wages.
