Yea i know it had alot of racist clowns on it but it wasn't bad enough to get rid of it seeing it had been around for so long, hell it was worse in the early/mid 00s too me.
It was great for finding movies that you couldn't remember from back in the day and someone would help you out or getting recommended movies for a certain genre, and discussing your favorite movies with other adults who also enjoyed it and what you liked about it.
It would have been crazy on the Black Panther board during this time, but i guess all good things must come to an end.

It's not that I wanted to read the alt-right shit. The problem would be you have a ten page thread on a movie or tv show. The majority of the thread would be legit discussion when someone(s) would come in and kind of derail the whole thing. After a few pages, it would get back to legit discussion. I was happy to ignore the bullshit because there was so much good shit for me to discuss. The problem now I can't find a legit replacement for the discussion board.

Actually I think it's the opposite. The success of Panther makes it easier for Infinity war to be successful. Besides, the Avengers movies do pretty well in their own right anyway.
I know when I went nobody stayed for the stingers as if they had never seen a Marvel movie before. Wouldn't shock me if a lot of people who saw this don't see the Avengers film though I think that shit won't even need it.
I really hate it didn't do well. Nat deserved better than that shit. I remember going opening night and it was 10 of us in there.
Marvel is smart, I'm sure Black Panther and Wakanda will be even more featured in the next trailer than it was for the first one.

I don't think Birth of a Nation was that good though...but remember it got fucked up because of the hit they put on dude about the college rape stuff and they pulled the marketing budget. You can't see a film that you don't know is out.

Exactly. Not sure why people are even comparing the two. They think they sound conscious by referencing it. Same can be said for 12 years a Slave and Fences. Good movies, great performances, but it's nothing we haven't seen before.
Yeah you guys are right. That shouldn't have stopped the film and IMO. And it probably didn't. It wasn't a film bout slaves being victims. And the fact that it was a Nat Turner story that couldn't even get produced so he had to self produce it with help from a few people including NBA players like Tony Parker and Michael Finley? Shit didn't stand a shot from jump. It was attacked by the media and it should've gotten supported more. But we all know why it didn't. Maybe it was slave film fatigue by black people.......its funny though no one got that fatigue on the other 100 slave movies made.
In regards to how bad or good it was.....that's subjective. That shouldn't effect how much money it made out the gate.
Straight up. I had slave movie fatigue before i watched it and I said I was done with those kinds of flicks afterwards. I think you combine the average nature of the movie (imo) along with all the fuckery that happened before it released and you had a dud in the making.
See I did too. Like I didn't even watch that Roots shit or that Underground show. I've heard Underground was solid......I heard conflicting shit on Roots. Just got tired of it. But I had to put that shit aside for Birth of No Nation. But I knew the story of Nat Turner would end up being a dud. Most of these do. We get mad at film companies for not making these movies.........but they aren't going to make money. Nate couldn't even get the money for it. I get why it did bad. But its clear it was done wrong. Not even one award nomination despite it winning awards at festivals.....and everyone knew about that Nate Parker shit and didn't care until he made a film about Nat Turner. Meanwhile, Roman Polanski is a confirmed rapist and he's out here making films and getting awards. Even Straight Outta Compton.....Suge murdered a dude on set and all them women Dre beat up came out in the woodworks of how he whooped their ass. Even the cac's. It just comes down to what the film was about and the subject matter. Slave movie fatigue, lack of history being taught about Nat, Nate Parker situation.......
We know this industry is a copy cat industry. Studios right now are trying to make another Black Panther or trying to get that demographic. I'm sure Sony right now is making some bullshit right now to capture the black moviegoer and its going to be some retarded ass shit. Probably a movie about "Black Twitter" or some shit.
