Yeah right, whatever. Unfortunately I have lived in America more than 20 years at this point
So, basically, you've made up your mind about why people like Sade, and will reject ANYONE who suggests something different?
Cool.

Not so sure about that...........If the merit of the music was the issue, there are a lot more
African women who are better at that...but you would never listen
to them; they do not have white features

I love this song.
And this is what Bahamadia looks like:

It is not up to you to decideYou're so committed to this African schtick that I sometimes forget that you're not really African.

Translation= she looks white, we are going to identify with her; even if
she comes from Africa where there are better female musicians we
ignore as a rule
You do not anything about music. For example, how manyspecifically talking about sade, this thread is bullshit.
people don't like sade because she's half white, people like her because of the music.
which is in part due to her band which as a whole is called SADE.
You getting side eyes for this.![]()
We were having a civil debate, until ignorant people like you cameYou either did not read a word that I wrote or you're just sticking to your little stupid troll agenda as usual.
Honestly, you should just stick to dick watching. African musicians don't need your sorry shit.
You do not anything about music. For example, how many
strings are on a 6 string Gibson guitar?
Does Sade sing Hip Hop?
If not, how is this a factor in this equation..
And someone actually had the nerve to talk
about terrible production... You cannot hear
what she is saying; it seems there are horns
in the background, and there is a poorly played
bass guitar, drums played in that "tap...tap...
tap" way black Americans play drums...
I mean the whole thing is bereft of richness
Good riddanceYour deflection is noted and promptly discarded.
Good day sir.
My argument is that Sade is successful among black Americans becauseThe focus of your argument was Sade would not have been a success if she didn't have Eurocentric features. I countered that I liked Sade for the band not the face on the package. Then I provided an example of an Afrocentric artist with the same band and commented on how I liked that song. Its not the genre. Its not how the person looks. Its the BAND!!!! Now as far as the quality of the playing, I'm not a musician. It sounds good to my untrained ears because of the mood and tone of the music. That's what matters to me. There could be a three headed lizard singing lead, I'd still like it because I'm looking past aesthetics and concentrating on creativity. Now we're in the subjective zone and everyone hears something different. This is where your argument loses steam. I can't tell you what sounds good and you can't tell me either. So at this impasse is where we'll stay.
Hasn't she always been a success in England as well? Based on these stats I'd say people all over the world liked her.My argument is that Sade is successful among black Americans because
she looks half white. There is no other group of people who idolise that
woman
brother, I respect you for trying to big up african artists. But, as a general rule isn't it going to be harder for artists singing non english songs to have a consistent impact in the USA? Not a one hit crossover, but a lasting english language career. I don't think it's at all about Sade being light skinned, but about the quality of her music, that amazing band, and her lyrics. They still resonate with people many years after they were originally published. The stuff you are posting may be great, but the sound isn't something that resonates well here. You can't get mad at all of black america because african music isn't being played at the club or at some progressive church. You know, the kind where the young choir leader gets a song and changes the lyrics to christian verses "You wont find me in the club, bottle full of bub, i'll be all up in the church singing of god's love..." type songs

You beat me by about 1 minute.

Is her music internationally known? I've never heard of her. Does her music compare to Sade's? I'm just asking. There are plenty of great artists out there who never get the acclaim or success others do. I'm not an 'artist' but I'm a musician and have been playing professionally since the mid 70's. No one knows me but my community. As for the half-white thing......there's plenty of artists who are not mixed who have made it internationally. Is it possible that those who are not half-white never received the
support and acclaim that has enabled Sade to last for 30 years?
(Ms Tshala Muana has been doing it for 40 years by the
way, working her way up from being a dancer for the Ms
Abeti Massikini**)
This woman who is not a musician has more range and versatility in her
voice than Sade Adu who sings in an even monotone. If Sade was not half
white, black America would not worship her. That is the truth
No real disagreement.
Black America doesn't control any entertainment industry. White folks prefer their black entertainers with a large portion of white-likeness.
From Lena Horne to Drake.
From Dorothy Dandridge to Halle Berry.
Black folks are just along for the ride.

You just tried to dismiss his entire post which had relevant information in it by saying that we wouldn't be talking about Sade if she wasn't half white. Who cares if she is or isn't? She can sing. I've watched the vids you posted and she can hold a melody as well but to be honest with you I didn't understand the words. So for you to compare an African singer who sings in Swahili (I'm assuming) to an American singing in English that's a bit unfair. what are we supposed to base it off of???If Sade was not half-white, none of you would be talking about her
I disagree. I never thought of her as half white until it was brought up in her biography. Same with Prince and the DeBarge family. Race has nothing to do with it.If Sade was not half-white, none of you would be talking about her
I disagree. I've heard plenty of female singers sing her songs and none capture the essence she brings to them. There are a few Sade tribute bands out there. The bands are very good but the singers lack that 'voice'!Sade's success has less to do with the way she looks and sings but more to do the creative quality of her band. They are the true talent. Anyone can stand out front and sing those songs. Its the music that was written and produced that made me stand up and take notice.
