No jailbreak for the stick.
Just enabling it to use 3rd party apps.
I will say that there is a bit of learning curve using it and finding stuff.

i just got the Firestick and set it up today. I installed Kodi. Works fine for me, i watched a few shows and tested the new x-men movie and it played fine. I cancelled cable earlier today as well and only have internet service at $50 a month (down from the $185 i was paying). I also have netflix and amazon prime. I'm gonna order two more sticks for my other rooms (or maybe the box) and get me a couple of HD antennas. I will never pay for cable tv again. Too many apps and other services that can be had for free or less than having cable.

Look into getting an indoor antenna , you can get one as cheap as $5 on Amazon
Depending on your location you can get free HD LIVE TV
is worth to try an antenna for $10, you can buy one at Amazon or Walmart for cheap

Using a G Box Matricom now. Was coming from a jailbroken Apple TV second gen, tye performance is night and day. The Apple TV constantly crashed when trying to play certain HD content. The G Box handles it like a pro.

I had the Apple TV jailbroken for years, not new to the streaming game.
I finally bought the new box because the Apple TV just because it became annoying to use.

Yea you should be able to in Kodi you can add a ton of video repositories and if you have a decent internet connection you can stream or download movies and shows. I remoted into my brothers tablet computer and installed Kodi and he swears he's in heaven lol

@cocobeauty try using a Build once you install Kodi on your Firestick. The build will save you time installing repositories and add-ons.
Also, like some one said earlier. The sticks don't need to be jail broken.
And... The add-ons movie databases can auto update so the most recent movies and shows will on there.

I run Plex at my crib... I access it using Tablet, phone, computers from all around the world and of course IN HOUSE on Xbox One, computer, ROKU, etc.. Plex is the shit... If you have a lot of movies (I have about 250), its wonderful.. Your own Netflix. I also have Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, etc.
