►►► Official UFC 196: McGregor vs Diaz - March 5th, 2016

idk how often MMA fighters fight professionally per year...is it like boxing where a fighter might have only 2 fights in a year? I'm asking cuz I'm wondering if white held holmes back too long hoping for rousey to come back :dunno:

I think most fight 2-4 times a year. No White didn't want Holm to fight, he wanted her to wait for Rousey.

ya I know he didn't...I'm wondering tho if he held her back too long and maybe she was a bit rusty or coulda had some tune-up fights that woulda had her more prepared...idk just guessing/thinking out loud

If Nate had more time to prepare he probably works McGregors from start to finish. But the funny thing is, this loss might have saved McGregor from a major ass whipping. Can you imagine if Connor stepped in that ring with Dos Anjos...:smh:

I think if McGregor had fought Dos Anjos it would be way different. Diaz had the height and reach advantage which Dos Anjos wouldn't have. I think Dos Anjos would win though

It would be different in a sense that RDA would have demolished Conor from the opening bell. (Remember what he did to Nate?) Conor has no ground game, RDA's kicks are lethal, and he's also a superior grappler. Nate did Conor a favor by beating him this way to avoid getting beaten by RDA even worse. He needs to stick with 145, where he's typically the bigger fighter.

Statement from Conor McGregor from today:

  • thenotoriousmmaI stormed in and put it all on the line. I took a shot and missed.
I will never apologize for taking a shot.
    Shit happens.
I'll take this loss like a man. I will not shy away from it. I will not change who I am. If another champion goes up 2 weights let me know.
If your tired of me talking money, take a nap.
I'll still be here when you wake up with the highest PPV and the gate. Still talking multi 7's.
Thank you to the true support and fuck the hate that came out of the woodwork. I love it all. Its still steak for breakfast.
I've been here many times in my life in some form or another. I'll eat it all and come back stronger.
Aldo you are a pussy. Dos anjos you are a pussy.
When the history books are written, I showed up. You showed up on Twitter.
To the fans! Never ever shy away from challenges. Never run from adversity. Face yourself head on.
Nate I will see you again.

Can't take anything away from McGregor. He took a jump 99 percent of fighters wouldn't take -- and he paid the price for it. If more fighters did what McGregor did, shit would be a lot more interesting.

That close-up camera image still of Nate after the victory was
what makes MMA a brutal sport. Face fucked up and still had the tenacity
to finish the fight. The scar tissue shows he been in a lot of wars.

WAR MMA! WARRRRRRR
:furious:

Listening to The Corner podcast from last night right now. Quick episode @ 25 mins ... they recorded it 15 - 20 mins post-event in the media room ^

Definitely check the podcast out (back episodes) if you're into hiphop, MMA, boxing, and pro wrestling. Been listening the past year.

Props to Nate. Subbed him in less than 10 minutes on less than 2 weeks notice.

Props to Miesha too on taking out Holm just before the 24th minute while trailing in earlier rounds.

Lex' - Gonna be interesting to see how Rousey performs when she comes back.

- If she competes against Tate and wins ... she's up 3-0 on her.
- If she competes against Tate and loses - she's up 2-1.
- If she competes against Holm and wins ... she's 1-1 against her.
- If she competes against Holm and loses ... she's down 2-0 against her, and many feel she'll probably depart the sport for good (and continue w/ Hollyweird)

I wonder why referee Big John McCarthy was covering his nose
when he was raising Tate arm in victory.

He got that 'GOT DAMN something smells' awful look on his face.
