Original Aunt Viv, Janet Hubert, puts Jada & Will Smith on blast over Oscars boycott

Concussion was a clear example of where an African actor should have played the role, David Oyelwo would have nailed it.

Anyways, the ole lady ain't tell no fuckin' lies...fuck Will and Jada and them weird ass kids they made.

haven't seen the flick, so I can't speak on it.... but as far as what happened on Fresh Prince... who knows what the situation was when she wanted to go talk to the execs about $$$. Maybe his read was different on all the particulars than hers, and he didn't want to try and make a move at that time (remember, this was in the first 3 years of the show; and Will wasn't mega-star Will Smith yet). ...and the fact that everybody else on the show gets along with him and each other... that's telling. Soooo bitter.

That movie was hard to watch; I cringed the whole way through. Will took a role he shouldn't have hoping to get a nod. This role should've went to David Oyelowo. Dave looks more like dude, his accent would have been more authentic, and his acting more genuine.

This honestly wasn't his best work, just his most recent attempt. His best shit was between the Pursuit of Happiness and 7lbs. days.

If he really wants a nod, he needs to go dark, play the villain, like Denzel :dunno:

I can't imagine having that much hate for someone for over 20 years. 20 years? She gotta let that crap go.....Jesus!!!!

I got about a quarter of the way through the movie, and she is right his accent is all over the place. I don't know about the female characters role being cut, but I don't doubt it. Some actors maneuver as to not be out shined by co-actors. Will Smith did the same thing in Wild Wild West by cutting some of Kevin Kline's lines and taking them for himself because they were funny

She does have some strong hate, but she also has some valid points. Will Smith did not deserve an Oscar for this role. In comparison, Jeffrey Wright playing Peeples Hernandez in shaft 2000... Now that accent had me believing that Jeffrey Wright was actually Latino instead of being black. I'm not saying that Jeffrey's role was Oscar worthy, but his accent was 100% believable to me

I thought WS did his thing in the movie. I thought his acting and accent were passable to strong. The movie plot and WS acting was engaging enough to allow me suspend belief and focus on the subject of the story. Truthfully i was shocked that the NFL actually participated in making the movie. Shit wasn't nice but they put on their big boi pants and took it on the chin.

As far as the OSCARS, its the same shit every year. As long as black folks been acting, black folks have been complaining about the lack of nominations and recognition. Come on Son! Someone mentioned a statistical fact that explains what is going on. The academy is primarily made up of older while males (avg age 62) who do the bulk of the voting on what movies will get an Oscar nomination, so its no wonder their nominations choices are a direct reflection of their particular demographics both in front and in back of the camera.

To put the issues in perspective, how many of your hard core BGOLers here belly aching, can name 5 Latino actors/actress and directors outside of the top 3 big name famous active working Latino actor & actresses? Do you get my point? Despite what you think, it's probably the same for these older white voting academy voters. Not making excuses simply pointing out why the demographics of the Oscar nominees tend to reflect, old white conservative nominations and ignore talented, qualified minorities actors and actresses both in front and in back of the camera.

This generational gaps can really be seen in the music award shows. There was a time , when I was younger, when I watched all these music award shows and remember knowing most if not all the categories of music, body of music put out by the artist, familiar with their songs, etc, etc,... Today, all of its foreign to me and I have no clue about a damn one why there are nominated, what they won, let alone how in the hell they are famous. My point is, a lot of these award nominations (both in music and film) have a lot to do with the generation of the voting block.

Older white conservative find it easier to recognize, identify & appreciate the talent and give a nomination to a Woody Allen or a Meryl Streep Movie or performance than to nominate a "Straight out of Compton" type of movie because the subject matter and creative artists involve are not of their generation and they fail to appreciate the quality of talent in front of them. ... and to illustrate my point further about generational gaps....

Hattie McDaniel who was the first black person to win and Oscar, and she won for a role that the voting block could identify with. They may not have fully appreciated her true talents and gifts as an artist but they sure as hell could appreciate and identify what a black maid/house cleaner/cook/servant who is at the beck and call of a typical white person looked like. They appreciated her talented acting skills so much they gave her an Oscar. Go figure and yall on here belly aching about the BS.

Agreed

She can't be mad that the Smiths put their children in movies because white people do it all the time. Whites always get their kids in the family business-Cindy Crawford is doing it, the Kardashians are doing it, Clint Eastwood is doing it. I can go on and on . Why can't we do it? The Jews look out for each other it, and put their friends in parts even if its for just a scene.

She wanted more screen time ,she wanted more stories about the parents.....she signed up for a show called
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air not The Fresh Family of Bel Air
I would have sat there and collected a paycheck and then produced and starred in my own films and plays if i wanted
everyone to focus on me

I think a lot of actors are not concerned about being nominated or winning an Oscar for it's merit but more so concerned for it's bargaining power for future projects, scripts thrown their way or money demands.
And just because you're nominated or win an Oscar does not guarantee those perks especially if you're black with the exception of Morgan Freeman, Denzel,
Will Smith, Edris Elba,, I have'nt seen Monique or Gabby Sidibey in any major projects on the silver screen.
It seems like they nominate black if their roles are negative or sexual in nature where a black woman is getting plugged by a white guy then that's an Oscar worthy performance even if the dialogue part of acting was just par.

Clearly bitter. And right on time this ended up on Fox News. Exactly what they want. Anytime black people band together no matter the cause they love that token negro to undermine it. Last time I checked Jada said "people of color" not "my husbands movie." Yet with others like Spike saying they are boycotting she only chose Jada and will. I wonder why.

forest whitaker(giving u the evil eye with his lazy eye): nigs done forgot i won an oscar and all i played in since than is a bunch of b movies, an action movie where my role where i played with a rubberband throughout the movie, a nig that holds plates and serve drinks through a bunch of diff president terms, a narrator in a teen movie that most of u didn't see, and a nig holding a camera through a president assassination movie..dis can't be life

she thought people watched Fresh Prince for her......got her wake up call

and then remains bitter about it for years on end

I feel like being in the public light causes people to lose all sense of introspection sometimes

I have a feeling Jada will not respond or even acknowledge this grudge-holding, bitter ass, crab ass bitch. She suffering from that Tavis-West complex.
Jada won't respond and I doubt Will would either. I always tried to give Janet the benefit of the doubt until now. That beef between Janet and Will was decades ago.

Jada has always showed herself to be classy, I doubt that will change.

I'm conflicted on this. She's 100% right on what she's saying but as it has been stated in the thread, black people love dissing each other in public. Perhaps this isn't quite a "diss" but public criticism. There's a time and place.

Having said that, I agree with the video.

You right

But now all of a sudden they trying to ride for people of color

I ain't fucking with that

Viv got her own agenda tho

I saw this in person last night. Community meeting and the person holding the meeting called out a man and his kids in front of everyone. Resulted in confrontation a few steps from hands being thrown. There are better ways to handle shit.

Just like this case the point being made was valid though.

I hear ya. And obviously shes bitter. But that doesnt negate the validity of her message. As for Spike, why would she mention him? Spike been on this shit, fighting this fight his entire career. Jada and Will havent been vocal on this matter... certainly not to this regard. And to now have a call to arms when Will gets snubbed is a bit disingenuous imo.

I can't imagine having that much hate for someone for over 20 years. 20 years? She gotta let that crap go.....Jesus!!!!

That hate she's holding on to in her heart gone put her ass into an early grave. Fuckin' shame. She continues to be one of those Tavis-West complex having crab ass bitches.

Janet is lucky that Jada isn't trying to act like a hood chick. It's one thing to disagree, it's another thing to be disagreeable. Janet is talking slick to someone who didn't do anything to her. Janet's beef is with Will, not Jada. Jada wasn't even in the picture when the initial beef started.I bet Jada wants to put foot to ass, but Janet is still a nobody and Jada has way more to lose by going that route. If this were the street Janet would have gotten chin-checked.

Dude, I was FLOORED when I saw JW act in something else and I realized he wasn't what we saw in Shaft. My impression of him in Shaft was that of a local actor who was previously in that life and then turned to acting. THAT'S how authentic his performance was. He became that character.

If you haven't seen him in Syriana then I suggest you check it out. Angels in America too. A complete 180 from the character Peeples

It's so much bigger shit we could be spending our time and energy on rather than a dated award show. It's a shame so many of our celebs do stick together in unity for the greater good.

It seems like everybody is content and comfortable in their spot & don't want to cause any waves

Put it this way; Jada's vid was shown and reported on all the news channels here in the UK and prolly all over the world. Janet's vid on the other hand...well ill be watching the news later and holla back. Peace.
