Back again for the auGuST BeaT BaTTLe

This month the idea is to post the hardest/grimey beat. Sample or no sample it did not matter. We had a handful of entries and you can see all the uncut madness in the producers lounge.

Winner calls the next task for auGuST beat battle. Good luck to all producers. Feedback and critique is both welcome and encouraged.

Doc - As usual, you rise the bar to another level. That Trap bang is hard to defeat and I have not yet been able to rise to that level. IMO, your beat is more on that the hard side instead of grimy.

P.O. - Hard beat, kinfolk. The electric guitar is usually deliver. I get that feeling to want to fuck some shit up. On that mosh.

USUKAZ - A rival to the Doc's beat. You came hard and somewhat grimy with it. IMO, Doc's beat was a little cleaner sounding on the bass drum side. Maybe it's my head phones or something, but maybe a little too much bass, but overall dope beat.

JackNickelz - It's my honest opinion that first beat you submitted was harder than your final submission. The beat you enter is dope, but I never really got that grimy/hard feeling from this track. You're first submission, on the other hand, was dope as hell. I think Skinny tricked you into switching up.

Lord V - Bless, kinfolk. Those xylophones ride. Every bit of that "One Love" feel from Illmatic. Nothing about this beat is hard, but there is a grimy feel to it. More like that Queens, NY street poetry I can here my mans Kool G. Rap on. Dope.

SOULWONDER - Smooth beat son, but falls short of the theme for this beat battle, which grimy/hard. This is more like a track for Phonte and Big Pooh, which there is nothing wrong with that.

Skinnie Talls - This VA ninja here  Boy, I tell ya. You know how to fuck with people. Got kats switching up beats because you come at them in such a way they second guess themselves. I see you, kinfolk. As far as your submission, them Knotts like drums and that ride. Hard beat with a grimy-Westcoast feel to it. That's beat was suppose to be for Sean P. I have no complaints about this. Dope as usual fam.

Psi Funk - Well produced fam. Clean and crisp. Nice build up and drop. Definitely a hard beat with the utilization of the electric guitar. Well done family.

LBO - Doc wanted you in here and you came. You hit us with the Westcoast and I don't even blame you. Maybe you was inspired by that NWA flick, but you knew exactly what you wanted and was looking for. Dirty drums and rugged piano. Sick vibration. I feel like I need to go call my neighbor a "bitch ass mark" for no reason. This beat met both criteria for the theme of this month.

My final decision basically comes down to preference of sound and my subjective opinion to what I consider grimy and hard. This is between Bills, Lord-V and Skinny. This is tough for me because I'm have all three beats near on the same level. :smh:

I can't do it. I'm going to wait :D

Had to go with popular just because of the rock sample. Thats what did it for me. But I got Truth in at a close second.

I saw Bills at Lukas Taproom in some Dickies, a wife beater and chucks calling everybody marks.

Much respect to all participants as well as those bold enough to leave feedback. I was going to leave a huge paragraph commenting on each beat but the voting is so close I don't want to sway judging. Also my opinion isn't to far off from the stuff SelfScience wrote. If I lose I wouldn't be mad, if Truth 3peats I wouldn't be mad, but if Largebills had only got 1 vote I would have been pissed. I feel like Westcoast beats are under-appreciated not just in this battle but out in the world. I love some good old G-Funk.

Also just some easter egg shit, my beat doesn't actually have a real "Kick or Clap" those are Hydraulic Sound effects pitched down and programmed where the kick n clap go. LOLO's cuz!
;)

man this shit was hard as hell this month

fuck!!!!!!!

i came to finally see the battle of oakland...as one or the other usually wins

but lord v said fuck oakland...im here and this is what i do too

gotdamn that was tough

its between bills and lord v for me....im going to listen a few more times before i give my vote

awesome jobs everyone...every beat was sick but the topic was grimy and bills and lord v has me grabbin my imaginary glock

POPULAR OPINION smashed it with that killer rock funk! dope track. got my vote.

Good looking out on the reviews. Appreciated bruh.

No problem, Truth. You'sa inspiring producer.

Thanks Self! As Usual You Cats Brought Some Serious Fuggin' Heat!

You're welcome, family.

Oh yeah that shitz Gangsta

 Got damn right it is.

I felt that same way. That Westcoast gangsta is so gutter, Bills laid that track down like he was the reason Dre even got started.

Everybody came correct, but gave the vote to Largebills...

USUKAZ beat sound something Bone Thugs would rap over...

My top three were LargeBills,USUKAZ and Truth in that order...I was going to give the nod to USUKAZ,but Largebills stole it...

aw damn,, 1st off let me say everybody stepped their game way up this month,, im honestly torn on who to vote for,, but my standouts are listed below:

dr truth - im a fan of bro based on what he did last month alone,, in july, he blew eveyone outta the water no question,, but it wasn't necessarily a runaway this month,, that's not to say this beat wasn't heat, just a better range of competition in august,, i'm feelin this beat (kinda rick ross influenced),, prolly the most clean & professional sound outta the bunch

Selfscience - son stepped his game waay the fuck up,, took it back to the mobb deep/wu era, & i'm feelin that,, beat didn't stay monotonous either,, props bro, that was prolly the most grimiest feel

JackNickelz - kat has the hardest/grimiest intro this month ,, when that lil foreign boy started singing, i was like "aw damn this shyts about to go hella hard",, but then that bouncy beat kicked in & let my expectations down,, you missed the bus imo by going with the wrong beat,, no dis intended,, that intro had me feenin for the beat to kick in tho

popular opinion - took a chance,, went with the hard rock guitars & killed it,, stands apart from everyone elses beat in a major way,, bro just may have stolen the crown this month

good job Bros,, strong month

.

what happened to the sticky icky though

still two more days to vote

I asked TEN to take it down. The thread gets more votes when it's not stickied. When it's stickied it doesn't show up in tapatalk unless you've already participated in the thread or you actually search for it.

Big ups to all the participants, yall came with it. I like the fact everybody has a different sound it's not a bunch of trap shit. It's like the era I grew up with in the 90s and early 2k, niggas had variations of hiphop. Popular opinions shit is nasty reminds me of eating Kool aid pickles in Bodegas in Jersey listening to MOP. I love that . Bills, all yall niggas are nice. Thanks for letting me participate. It was fun, now back to work I go! Gotta bless these airwaves!

prolly an over asked question, but can yall elaborate if you are strictly making beats on your computer, or do some of yall have mpc's etc,, whats the best software for a beginner,, yall make it seem so easy

Me personally used to own an MPC, when I was introduced to software it tripled my workflow. I still tap out somethings live but there is a computer monitor staring at me at all times.

Reason
Sony Sound Forge
acid pro
Pro Tools
Cakewalk

When I get in a certain financial space I'm going to pay side street musicians to play/interpolate my beats and really Quincy Jones some shit.

Congrats to Popular Opinion you have dethroned Dr. Truth and now have the opportunity to decide the September Stipulation.

:bravo:

Me personally had a fucking ball in the last month. I didn't get 1 vote but I still feel like I kicked ass.

Can't wait for the next one.
