BLACK PANTHER! officially announced

I would agree with you except for one thing - I have seen that Black Panther you mention - in the comics, on the cartoon and the character was created by the same white men that you are worried about.

I have been reading Marvel since I was a kid - M.M.M. and then F.O.O.M. - so I think it will be ok.

The guys who made the books. Aren't the guys making the movies though. But acknowledge your view.

Knew they had to put a whitey spin on the story line....

The hell for??

no shit, it is better for them to stay isolated. It will be better if the movie was about them fighting off and invasion once they were accidentally discovered. white people always got to be controlling shit, starring and shit. That's why they are and all of the Egyptian movies when they would have been burnt to potato chips have they been alive in that era

Folks are gonna just need to stay on top of Marvel and constantly remind them that they are paying attention to this project. Everything from the director, to the budget to where they shoot the film (some US soundstage stuff, New Zealand and african country yet to be determined)to the damn soundtrack. That means hitting up and commenting on any public fansite and article that comes out so they can see you're paying attention.

If the cartoon version is any guide, they understand the need to stay true to who the character has always been in the comic.

^^^^

agreed I actually wouldn't be mad if they had Priest and Hurdling BOTH (maybe even Liss) take cracks at the screenplay.

I want to see that young regal confident one of the smartest men in the world Black James Bond panther.

Man I already posted the video of Kevin Feige saying that this shit doesn't matter in the cinematic universe or do secret identities.

People just don't get it.

Marvel went out their way to set up their multiverse
so the movies and TV shows don't have to be a carbon copy of the 616 or Ultimate.

Earth-616 Mainstream Continuity
Earth-1610 Ultimate Marvel
Earth-199999 Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)

I can't help but think about Falcon in the most recent Captain America movie. He looked helpless, waiting and eager to take orders from the Captain and his girl.Hell you can say Rhodey, particularly in IM2 had a very similar feel to him. They both needed direction from their superior white counterparts to have a meaningful role.

We all know Tony Starks in this movie-verse is that "Genius Asshole" white boy that well is right even when he's dead wrong. I just can't see them 1) Suggest that T-Challa is on par with Starks Intellectually and 2) An African nation more technically advance, military advance and other-advance than the good ol' U.S.... Shitttt....Not gonna happen.

Look at this picture...Does it suggest he can and has kicked the one on the Lefts Ass? Also is as smart, if not smarter, than the one on the Right?

On my tumblr i've ranted about the underrepresentation of minorities in the marvelmovieverse ad nauseum. You get what i'm saying here i see. They DID treat Falcon as some ole "Oh jeez golly yassuh i can't wait to fight for YOU ole captain America SUH!"

I know what the movies are, i know how white americans are.. I know what the comics are too. But while the comics have evolved. These black characters do stand on their own now. Quite well. But whites who are the majority buyers. Do not support the general idea of the black characters and their power. Or ability.

White writers say Tchalla is as smart as Reed, but they never really SHOW it. He's 1 of the best fighters in the MU but he doesn't really get to show it often. He's brilliant. But lets never write it into the stories. I have no faith in marvel movie makers for making a GOOD BP movie. I'm willing to even bet it has the smallest budget of all of the marvel movies.

No fam, shit is laughable.

Peeps in here crying about how CACs will portray Black Panther...

As if it wasnt CACs who invented the Black Panther and Wakanda.

As if it wasnt CACs who wrote his comics.

As if it wasnt CACs who decided to put the character in the movies in the first place.

Or do they think Marvel Studios are putting this movie out because they were pressured by a legion of Black comic book fans?

Marvel was pressured by legions of (liberal) WHITE comic book fanboys... for years.
(Since the 1st Avengers dropped in 2008)

'Hardcore' Avengers fans did not want to see like 5-10 Avengers movies hit the big screen without EVER including the Black Panther, as if he never existed. :smh:

Anyone can check the pulse of the 'comments sections' of the major video game blogs & comic book communities like Reddit, bleeding cool, comic vine, the Beat, IGN, Gametrailers, etc. to see the 'level of support' BP gets.

Just saying.

I would disagree with that I named 3 of the most recent writers who have shown his intelligence and superiority both physically and mentally compared to the rest of the MU.

I actually read this great book (Ennis?) where they treated the first Avengers as real people in a group biography format and when they reached the section about BP they spoke about him with complete reverence and respect.

As a matter of fact historically Marvel had BP pull something Batman would do MUCH later which was research and find all the Avengers weakness and be able to defeat them without ANY powers.

If I am not mistaken he may be the ONLY character to have ever done so.

SO I aint worried about that...

its when we gets to the screen and marketing advertising wanting to make him more 'accessible to the masses' and certain theaters objecting to the name and refusing to screen the film which I am REALLY worried about.

Who should direct?

Just be glad he was in the film in the first place and that he wasn't a pimp.

I like Antoine for this he is on a hot streak...

man if BOTH of the brothers could unite for this I think that wold be a strong look

Ernest Dickerson NEEDS to be involved in this in some shape or form too just off the cinematography!

I named some directors earlier but you know...

Spike Lee should be STRONGLY considered.

Every genre they thought he COULD NOT do he did...well.

Just off the Malcolm X and The Inside Man I think he could do it.

And you really need to watch who gets cast as a citizen of his kingdom. It's supposed to be untouched by the outside world, they should look similar to each other. Can't have all the women looking like they stepped out of a MixedMag/lightskinned model photo shoot. And I know some fanboy is gonna try and say since Idris Elba is in Thor, BP has to have some white guy native to his kingdom. -Get that sh!t outta here.

Whats the setup? Is it a mad scramble with Klaw Ultron and Cap all coming to look for Vibranium and this his is first test as the new King? Who gets to play his father?

Just saying.

You made my point.

An overwhelming majority of comic book fans wanted Black Panther. What percentage of them do you think are Black?

Point is that ALL comics fans want this movie done and they want it done the best way it can.

If it was just Black fans, we never would have even heard about support for it. Theres just not enough of us.

So no I dont expect this project to be treated as a bone thrown to the Black comic book fans, as others are suggesting.

Don't forget Paris Barclay. Ernest never gets enough shine, but he does alot of tv and film work. In Marvel's eye's Tim Story will forever by the guy who directed those Fantastic Four movies for Fox.

For me it's Carl Franklin, F Gary Gray and Singleton.

I don't see Spike making it fun and layered. His head and heart aren't into large projects like in the old days.

^^ Totally agree. Well said.

It's a Marvel movie.

It's coming out after 'Winter Soldier' has raised the bar (as far as Marvel Movies go) in terms of acting, directing, storytelling, drama, action, pacing, etc.

Plus after Avengers 2 & Captain America 3 will raise it even further.

Overall, the 'quality standards' & expectations of superhero movies will be higher by 2017, than it is today.

So, it should be pretty damn good.
At least I hope it is. :dunno:

this is so easy if Marvel sticks to the script...

just off the vibranium they could use that as the source of so much conflict

do they (Wakanda) OWE it to the rest of the free world to share it?

It can be something to battle Ultron or even Thanos

You could have either Widow or Arrow back stab Wakanda for the US gov't causing a division testing Captain Americas ALREADY strained loyalty...

they need to make Denzel Chiwetel Ejiofor or djimon hounsou his dad T'Chaka
Michael Jai White or Chiwetel Ejiofor his mentor and trainer
And Jaime Hector his jealous cousin vying for the throne...

Spike Lee would KNOCK THIS OUT OF THE PARK...

I''m telling you.

And that scene when Fury meets T'Challa for the first time?

:dance::dance::dance:

Wesley Snipes could be good as the Panther's father. Cast Lupita Nyong, Kerry Washington, or Danai Gurrira as Shuri.

But who's going to be his Dora Milaje?

*imagines t'challa in spike's signature "dolly shot"*

at least spike would stand up to the studios trying to water it down.

I don't have faith in Spike like I used to. He is at his best when he works w/ a script someone else wrote (X, Inside Man) so if Marvel got him a solid screenplay he could make it work.
He doesn't have any recent success at the box office where Marvel would pick him over other filmakers. He might even feel some kinda way towards Chadwick, since he didn't get to make his James Brown movie once the producers took him off the project.

There's only a handful of 'heavyweight franchises / names' in Hollywood. Most folks would put their 'personal' differences aside to work on a big-budget Marvel movie. (if they got any sense, that is)

It's like working on a Martin Scorcese movie.

Even if you hated the leading actor's guts, or one of the Producers.... you gonna 'do what it takes' to get aboard and get that 'Scorcese credit' on your filmography resume.

I couldn't see Spike Lee (or any of these black directors, for that matter) 'passing' on the opportunity to work on a (potential) BLOCKBUSTER, that could involve multiple sequels / spinoff projects. :dunno:

I can easily see Spike not doing it, outta spite. He's a veteran, but he's still got an outsider streak to him. Plus he's gonna say what's on his mind regardless of the potential consequences. Marvel just wants to make a good movie that makes $$, adding Spike to the mix doesn't sound like something they'd do.
