BLACK PANTHER! officially announced

Dammit girl, just go ruin a brother's hopes and dreams. :smh:

Rock i had a very odd sensation when i first thought about this movie possibility. And you know what if Avi hadn't said what he said? I MAY have had a different feeling about this movie.

And then he pops off with this "it's like a black indiana jones?" Nope. No faith in this. This is too imporant a character to not give him FULL acknowledgement.

Announcement is all of 2 hours old and we got two in here already shitting on the idea. Some of yall are some miserable ass people.

They're still white men. And for white men drawing out their white power fantasies? Good job. Making characters who are white? Easy peasy. Making a black character who's their BETTER? Because Black Panther is better than all of them. He beat Captain America. He beat Iron Man. Multiple times. He's as smart as Reed Richards who's smarter than Iron Man. And he's insanely rich. And he's a KING. Of a nation that is in all rights, better than America.

You sure you want to believe they'll give this character it's just due?

I would agree with you except for one thing - I have seen that Black Panther you mention - in the comics, on the cartoon and the character was created by the same white men that you are worried about.

I have been reading Marvel since I was a kid - M.M.M. and then F.O.O.M. - so I think it will be ok.

I can't help but think about Falcon in the most recent Captain America movie. He looked helpless, waiting and eager to take orders from the Captain and his girl.Hell you can say Rhodey, particularly in IM2 had a very similar feel to him. They both needed direction from their superior white counterparts to have a meaningful role.

We all know Tony Starks in this movie-verse is that "Genius Asshole" white boy that well is right even when he's dead wrong. I just can't see them 1) Suggest that T-Challa is on par with Starks Intellectually and 2) An African nation more technically advance, military advance and other-advance than the good ol' U.S.... Shitttt....Not gonna happen.

Look at this picture...Does it suggest he can and has kicked the one on the Lefts Ass? Also is as smart, if not smarter, than the one on the Left?

Do you understand that neither of those two characters were superheroes before? That they were basically being shown the ropes by established heroes? Black Panther is different.

Hell, a lot of you were BITCHING about Falcon not being able to beat Brock Rumlow...because you didn't know who the fuck Rumlow is.

I cannot see this going wrong. His on screen presence is phenomenal. This is the perfect casting.

It's in the comics. The hardcore fans won't settle for any less. :smh:

Think about it... All of America's top technology nowadays is made in Asia. (China, Japan, Phillipines, etc)

So America doesn't have to be seen as the 'most technologically' advanced nation in the movies... the script just has to say: USA WINS.

OR USA has the most 'heart' / 'willpower'... for the audience to buy it.

That

I swear I feel like I'm 9 years old

I remember each and every time I saw a comic superhero show up on TV Adam West's Batman Spiderman Shazam The Hulk and later the Hulk specials on NBC and much later the films like Blade even Shaq's Steel and even Roger Corman's FF...

I remember when my little cousins nieces and nephews took me to see Avengers in the theater it had already been out for MONTHS they had All already seen it but they wanted to share it with me cause I introduced comics to ALL of them and they knew what a big deal this was for true comic book fans from way back...

I NEVER thought I would be alive to see this (hope that I am)

I think Marvel actually realizes how significant this and I have no reason to doubt them because of the muscle they put behind Guardians.

This is the kind of movie that has the potential to be what Superman was to our generation...

they NEED to do this right.

I'm not sure about the brother they selected but so far again Marvel has been on point.

I don't need them to go all fanboy and every aspect has to be canon and one deviation will RUIN the film...

I want a good....forget that GREAT movie experience.

the Black audience in particular deserves that.

I don't think they NEED to make bold socio-political statements but just a smart fun movie that we can share enjoy and be proud of.

Blade was actually made MORE of an icon on screen then in the comics and the first film was filled with subtle social issues.

However the whole of the Black Panther character IS a bold political statement there is absolutely no way around that.

the source material is there...male female Black white all of the Marvel editors writers and artists have depicted BP have shown the utmost respect and been honest with character for DECADES...so I have absolutely no reason to think they would do so now

That is why I think right now its going to be who is DIRECTING this movie that may be one of the most important aspect.

Because catering to EVERYONE is going to be a Herculean task.

They already got my money and pretty much my whole damn families from jump but I think they know that...

and I KNOW they don't want the FIRST Black HERO of the Marvel/Disney regime to flop OR be a disappointment.

We WILL be watching.

Exactly. Falcon stayed in shape but he was hosting veterans meetings. Crossbones stayed in the field and was in better shape. Falcon will be a beast now.

No fam, shit is laughable.

Peeps in here crying about how CACs will portray Black Panther...

As if it wasnt CACs who invented the Black Panther and Wakanda.

As if it wasnt CACs who wrote his comics.

As if it wasnt CACs who decided to put the character in the movies in the first place.

Or do they think Marvel Studios are putting this movie out because they were pressured by a legion of Black comic book fans?

Yea. Anthony Mackie mentioned being in Cap 3 but not AOU. Falcon and War Machine HAVE to be in Infinity War. Thanos needs people to slap around. The more the merrier. I want to see Pepper get the Rescue armor as well by IW.

i am hype about black panther. but man, they are really going to put black bolt on screen.

I posted an article,2 years ago about them possibly doing an Inhumans movie...on top of that a few members been saying they've been teasing it on Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D last season....

I might have have to read the comics, because I have no clue who they are but from the responses on facebook...people are hype about it...

i haven't read comics regularly in nearly 20 years but even back then inhumans was a well written book.

Folks are gonna just need to stay on top of Marvel and constantly remind them that they are paying attention to this project. Everything from the director, to the budget to where they shoot the film (some US soundstage stuff, New Zealand and african country yet to be determined)to the damn soundtrack. That means hitting up and commenting on any public fansite and article that comes out so they can see you're paying attention.

If the cartoon version is any guide, they understand the need to stay true to who the character has always been in the comic.
