Elysium

In Elysium, which takes place in the year 2154,the divide between the 99% and 1% has
expanded to such a great degree, that the rich have abandoned a deteriorating, disease filled and over
populated Earth for a circular paradise that floats above Earth called Elysium. This paradise also
contains homes that come with tubes that can cure the most terminal illness, this is all watched
over by an ice water in her veins security chief Secretary Jessica Delacourt (Jodie Foster / still not sure what
dialect she was using.)

Enter ex-con,blue collar worker Max Da Costa (Matt Damon)after being exposed to radiation at the robot
factory he goes to get help from a smuggler he has a history with named Spider (Wagner Moura /absolutely terrific !!),
who attempts to land ships on Elysium.Fitted with an exo-skeleton that will strengthen him and a brain reading
device to steal info about Elysium to override it's directives.Complicating matters Max's passion for an
an old friend, named Frey (Alice Braga), who works as a nurse in a rundown hospital and has a daughter, Matilda(Emma Tremblay),
who is dying of leukemia.

Damon is such a genuine presence on screen you instantly root for him.Sharlto Copley is so good at portraying a dastardly
and menacing South African merc named Kruger who works for Delacourt,i half expected him to start twirling his moustache. Also high praise
to Diego Luna and William Fichtner.
I loved the seamless SFX ,the robots, weapons, and the ships.

The semi love story is a bit underdeveloped.

The action sequences and their intensity are powerful, but they dont overwhelm, and i never stopped caring about
the characters.
As the smoke slowly lifted from all of the action packed metallic mayhem, writer and Director Neill Blomkamp's
message still comes shining through.

Scale of 1-10 an 8½

Thanks for the intel, JB - currently sizing up Elysium. Waiting to hear back re: passes this week for Jobs. There were a handful of contests out there for that one.

yo i saw this jernt called Conspiracy the other day...shit was pretty good. real suspenseful.

Helico-pterFunk it was far better than what i was expecting for a late summer release

Right on, JB.

Got word today regarding winning passes for Jobs on Thursday evening. Gonna take fam'. Glanced at the theater listings and it looks like they're also playing Wolverine, The Way, Way Back ... Fruitvale Station, 20 Feet from Stardom, and The Attack.

Might check out Fruitvale Station or Wolverine if it's too crazy busy for Jobs.

Kick-Ass 2

Even when its weighed down by been there done that moments Kick-Ass 2 still manages to entertain and
well...kick ass.New life is breathed into the story with the arrival of Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey)
Even though Carrey began to disavow the the films violence and decided not to be a part of the films promotional
tour, his brief moments in the film are memorable.I do wonder if some of his scenes were cut from the film due
to the aforementioned.

I felt the character Kick-Ass/Dave Lizewski (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) was pushed a little to the back this time around
or maybe it was the fact that Hit-Girl's/Mindy Macready's (Chloë Grace Moretz) story was more interesting,as she continually
defies her adoptive father Marcus (Morris Chestnut),enters puberty in hilarious ways, and still dispatches evil doers while
spitting out salty one liners.
Chris D'Amico now the MotherF***er (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) has some funny moments as he aims to avenge his father's death

A lot of the actors capture the enthusiasm of the characters found in the pages of the Kick -Ass comic created by Mark Millar and illustrated
by John Romita, Jr. There are a ton of new characters and villains and when they face off it looks like Comic Con Cosplay goes wild.

KA2 wont win any Oscar's but its a fun romp.

Disconnect

The title of the film Disconnect can mean many things. It can apply to the family in the film who can barely
have dinner together before returning to or being distracted by their mobile devices.Or the couple that have been
distanced by a tragic death. It can also be a command to the audience to put our mobile devices away,so we may have a
decent conversation,or actually look at the person we are out on a date with.

Incredibly strong performances from Frank Grillo,Andrea Riseborough,Paula Patton,Michael Nyqvist ,Alexander Skarsgard and Max Thieriot
(Jason Bateman is the standout) propel the film past it's predictable turns and weaknesses.
The film looks at the dark side of the internet. From illicit and explicit web cam chat sites, cyber bullying, catfishing, and fraud.
Cyber emotional friends and hard drives that store every keystroke and website you visit leads to all types of turmoil.
If the goal of the creators of the film was to make the audience reflect on their own trips around the world wide web
they succeeded. This is very watchable, intense and reflective film.

Watched it after reading your post and thought it was really good. It could have gone a little further, but I think I can understand why the writer may not have wanted to make it even more explicit and/or dark. I struck just the right note. The ending leaves a little to be desired, but I guess the writer didn't want to make it a sappy ending. I can respect that. Overall, I would recommend this movie to anyone.
